HD RARE United Airlines Boeing 747-422 Tulip CLOSE UP Takeoff from San Jose International Airport

- Here is the BEST START TO THE NEW YEAR EVER!!!!! San Francisco Airport had 0 visibility today which caused about 10 diversions to SJC today! I got out there about an hour and a half before this departed and was able to see all the diversions leave SJC! I also had the time of my life out there with all of my spotting friends out to see this beast takeoff! It was also Amazing to see this big boy up close and preform a Southwest takeoff (Adding power on turn on)! Anyways, I will have some diversion fottage up soon, and as always, Enjoy and more to come!!!

She was Uniteds first 747-422. She originally had, “Spirit of Seattle II” painted on both sides of her nose below the flight deck windows. Sadly She has been retired and scrapped. Beautiful Bird. Miss the 747s the most
The 2006 United Airlines Tulip livery was the best of United Airlines

+beto91frca The current livery is just the old Continental livery with different text. And the famous United logo has has been replace with the old Continental globe logo.

Great work, man! In my opinion, this livery is 10x better than the Continental globe.
I'll bet the people motoring up and down 101 when it came into view and passed overhead got one hell of a surprise.

I've been on the freeway which is at the end of the runway when planes are landing and the first time I saw a Western 707/720 land it was so low, it was huge and I thought it was crashing. If I had been in the same spot when this 747 came in I would have had a heart attack for sure from fright....LOl

Andrew E its a very rare occurrence. Up until now, most of the 747's we got were diversions, but now we have learned that a 747 military charter will take place about twice a year here!

I agree, Delta is planning to pull all of its former Northwest 744's from service in 2017, with United doing something similar. It's sad to see such a young bird as N672US being phased out even though it can easily go for another 10 years. Sad for me because I've been flying international on both United and NW's 747-400s for well over 20 years. They've carried me safely across the Pacific to my destinations in Japan and China. There are quieter, more efficient airliners that can get you there, but none of them can match the charm, the iconic shape, the charisma of the 747-400.
+nigahiga6400 At least we still have the 747-8 though the passenger version hasn't been overly popular with airlines.
It's still sad to know that they stop its development. The 8i's will be around and in service for at least another 20-30 years unless something better comes out between now and then.
yeah you were right with these airlines retiring them, but some airlines have recently got new ones so they will be using them for many many years. I think a lot will be converted to cargo aircraft, since they make perfect cargo planes.

#4 engine changed recently, nose cowl needs matching paint.
