    Why on Earth would anyone buy and electric car when for £30k you can have a sound like that!! That sound is worth the money all on it’s own, it’s orgasmic 😃

    I own (2) a GranCabrio as well as a GranTurismo, both 2011s and both with the 4.7L V8. I've taken my coupé on a 400 mile round trip at 80 mph cruise and got 22.3 mpg... I'm sure if you are driving it really hard, it'll drop into the teens, but the fuel consumption is not as bad as many comments suggest IMHO that is. Also, stop assuming the running costs are going to eat you alive! I hear this all the time from people who have never owned a Maserati... these are my 3rd and 4th and I'm still alive. I needed a new battery installed by AAA for the Cabrio and it cost me all of $230.00 while the service was done in my own home's garage! I also point out, Ferraris and Maseratis are known for winning races, many many races in fact. You don't win races without finishing them. So reliability is actually better than expected. Don't assume they are going to explode when you turn the key. Service them and take care of them and they'll likely serve you well. I think these cars are completely under rated, they sound great, look great, have very nice performance for a GT, plus you can actually put a 6' person in the back seats! Also, likely the last Pininfarina styled 2+2 with a NA Ferrari built V8 you will ever see. What a steal!

      I have 2011 GranTurismo Auto 21000 miles and 2005 Quattroporte manual 60,000 miles on the original clutch. They are both more reliable that All the BMW M cars and Mercedes’ cars I owned previously . They very underrated by many uniformed people

    Main problem is the fuel consumption. Like a DB9 about 10mpg around town. Compared to its main rivals it's typically cheaper to maintain. If thinking of buying one, get a PPI, but first thing is to make sure the subframe is sound, as you can't buy a new replacement. And older cars can suffer variator problems, so you need to check the engine number. At some point the factory fixed the problem, but the engines weren't installed in sequence, so rather than year, you must check the engine number. If it hasn't got the factory upgraded engine, and it hasn't been repaired, it costs 3-4k to fix. But not all cars develop a problem, but a significant minority do. Other than that, like all similar cars, they are hard on suspension components. The closest experience for the risk averse is the Jaguar XK 5.0 naturally-aspirated...a little down on power but almost 300kgs lighter, and therefore more sports car than GT. Don't sound quite as good, don't have the brand cachet, but cheaper to buy, insure, maintain and fuel. However, for what it is, Ferrari V8 with cross-plane crank, it's cheaper than a DB9 in just about every way, yet similar performance, and in many ways better built. Also sounds at least as good. The other rival from back in the day is the Bentley Continental GT. Cheaper to buy. Much faster. AWD. But heavier, just as thirsty, and can be the most expensive to maintain. Some small jobs on the W12 are engine out, you apparently can't get head gaskets, and some cars have been unrepairable due to electrical/electronic gremlins. IMO, compared to its main rivals, the Maserati is typically a better proposition. IMO, its cabin has aged best. It's also the roomiest, not least being able to fit actual adult male persons in the back seats, so it's the most practical, too. Boot is not very big, but not too bad, either, unless you opt for the GranCabrio. Oh, yeah, don't forget, its engine is placed behind the front axle, so out of all the aforementioned cars, it's the only one with a mid-engine.

      I use one as a daily driver (the early 4.2) and get around 19mpg with commuting and social. Early on I had a 40ltr LPG Tank put in the boot and get a similar consumption on LPG but at £0.58/ltr. It eats rear tyres and although servicing itself isn't too expensive, if it needs parts it can rack up the £s quickly. Whenever it's in the shop I convince myself it's too expensive to keep and decide to sell it.... Then as soon as I get in back and drive it for 2 mins.... It's staying!

    • @peterlattimore6013
      @peterlattimore6013 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for those snippets of info... I recently bought a 4.7 Quattroporte for a steal with only 29k on the clock. I'm presuming the running gears identical to the grismo, and am only frieghtened of the VVt variator... Its not rattling on start up, but could you tell me if by 2010 Maserati had solved the issue?. Best bang for buck, being a value investor, many guys I know spend 50k on an engine build for their fibreglass hotrods... bought it for $37k New Zealand $, so basically the price of a new Toyota or long block with high stall torque convertor... lol

    • @nigel.w
      @nigel.w 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@peterlattimore6013 Unfortunately, you cannot go by year, despite a common belief that it was resolved at the factory for the 2010 model year. To be pretty sure by year, it would need to be a MY 2012, ie, a late 2011 car.
      It was at least partially resolved at the factory as early as 2009, but the engines were not installed consecutively, so a 2009 car could have a factory fix and a later car not.
      Consequently, you need to check the engine number. Cars with engine number =157854, as from this engine# the variator part# changed. That said; according to the relevant service bulletin, engine numbers 148697 onward are already equipped with the new anti-back flow oil valves, and engine numbers 150070 onward are aditionally equipped with the new timing variators.
      If not fixed, I believe you'd need to set aside NZD10K for the potential repair, and if the worst came to pass you'd need to make sure the repairer orders the ugraded parts, not the same parts that fail, which has happened.
      As best as I can determine, the variator issue ends up affecting about 1 in 3 QP Vs/GTs.

      I have a 2018 GT and get around 13 strictly in town..I always drive in sport mode/manual and have a heavy foot. On straight highway driving in California, I have gotten almost 28 miles to the gallon. Absolutely love the car, and the sound is second to none. I guess my only complaint is that Pzero tires especially the rear only get 8-9K miles.

    I have a 2012 Granturismo MC, got it for $55k @20,000 miles. Everyone thinks I dropped over $100,000 on it and they're stunned when I tell them otherwise, looks like it rolled off the lot yesterday brand new. Extremely reliable too, check the forums, a lot of people daily drive them and don't have problems at all, not kidding. Sounds incredible all day everyday, gets around 13-17 mpg city, which is my fault as I blast it out of every green light so everyone in the intersection stares at me, it's great
    US version get an excellent 6 =speed transmission from ZF, at the time this was considered one of the best 6 speeds on the market. I think one year the MC trim got the 6 speed automated manual transmission, I think it was 2011, but it's terrible and will need to be rebuilt +40k miles and up. This is why they took it out of the Quattroporte as well. Europe got the 6 speed automated manuals on their S trims and all of their MCs, which sucks. These crappier transmissions have the MC-Shift (which this car has and the owner refers to at 6:43 ). But if you can get the normal, 6 speed automatic, you should go for it as they're bulletproof (kinda)

    I’ve had my 2011 4.7 F1 for 3 years now, done 33000 miles in it, now on 81000. I drive it nearly every day, and I love it.
    Re gear changes, if you want comfy don’t use sport, don’t bother lifting, car does it well enough. But if you want quick changes, and I mean quick, foot flat to the floor and change up, it’s lightning fast, and quite astonishing. Someone in the comments mentioned this gearbox needs a rebuild every 40k miles, but that not true, the stuff that does all the gear changes does break, but it’s way way more fun than the Zf auto. I did drive one but I hated it!
    When I first got it I was getting 13mpg on normal roads, that has settled at 18mpg now, never really gets much better than that, mainly because it sounds so great accelerating, it’s really addictive too. Not the cheapest thing to keep on the road, but what is at this level? It likes tyres, and fuel, and it’s on its 4th clutch since new, and stuff does go wrong. Overall it’s cost me about 50p per mile to maintain/repair/insure/etc, and the same in fuel, basically £1 per mile.
    So if you’re dailying it, it’s not cheap, if you don’t drive it it’s a bargain, but what’s the point in that?! Oh, and I only paid £24,500 for it 😬 The only car I’d replace it with would be a newer lower mileage 4 seat stradale, but my plan is to keep it for as long as I can, I really do love it, highly recommended 👌

    I have the earlier 4200 cambriaCorsa. You are so right about t feathering the throttle for gear changes, makes all the difference. 4200 revs to 8k in sport mode. True it is a GT rather than an out and out sports but it is awesome on the Swiss/Italian mountain passes.
    Costs, who cares. It is a baby Ferrari and they cost. Fuel consumption. If you want a Maserati, the last thing on your mind is fuel cost. Value for money is a better measurement. Bad day...drive Masser...problem solved.
    I drive mine most days. They run much better when you do that. Fuel is better than my Cayenne turbo or Bentley Brooklands turbo. On the mini side, just paid nearly £40k on a new JCW all4. More than twice the price of the Masser so I reckon I have over £20k for maintenance before I even worry about the Maserati😁

I have owned it for 4 years now and have put over 30,000 miles on it (61k) miles so far. It’s been very reliable thus far. I’ve only put brakes and tires on it so far. Purchase all 4 brake pads from Formula Dynamics for $270 total. Brembo brakes are really easy to work on. PS: why would anyone purchase an electric car when 30k buys this magnificent machine which can be used as a weekend toy and a little 1 litre fiesta used as a commuter , crazy.
