Excellent review! I received this game in July and played it ten times between July and August. (I had it on my 10X10 challenge for this year). All of my plays were solo. I absolutely LOVE this game. It might be a top ten all time. The only reason I stopped at ten plays was because I had to keep going with the rest of my challenge. I love the tableau building, the die-building, the combos, and the track progression. For solo, it's also pretty great because you have four different opponents to play against that each present unique challenges in playstyle. Also, the sense of satisfaction upon completion of a game when seeing your tableau built out with the beautiful and sweeping land, sea, and space cards is so rewarding. I just wish the game had come with a score pad but it gave me a chance to design my own.
It reminds me a bit of the first time I played Troyes. I had no idea how the flow from drafting dice to making points would happen. It seems like a funny engine to grasp.
I bought Raiders of the North Sea on a whim and got hooked on Garphill games. Bought Architects and backed both Shipwrights and Ezra and Nehemiah. Will definitely get the South Tigris games and back Inventors when the KS launches 2024 and I'm a big fan of The Mico art. Great review as always Alex
Great review and all true. When I read the rule book I'll admit to feeling a bit confused right away. So much going on, as you said. I had to setup and play through a game - very slowly - to even begin to understand the actions. It does take a while to feel sort of comfortable with the game. Not for the faint of heart.
I dunno man. All these games feel like the same thing. Place workers, gain resources, coins can be used instead, move up tracks, meet requirements for cards, recruit cards. Like, how many of these do people need?
I mean sure...but you can make the same argument about movies, music, books and video games...people who want to consume that media, often want more of it, and small differences matter.
I'm a huge fan of the West Kingdom trilogy and Raiders but bounced off pretty hard on this one. It seemed like more work than fun. Certain things I liked but overall found that it wasn't for me.
Played this at DTE and we all learned at the same time. It was quite confusing and I didn’t enjoy it. I’d be curious if I enjoyed it after a second play but I don’t see myself running out to get into a game to see if that’s the case.
And the aim or goal of the game besides points is? Is it to draw Miss Piggy? To snatch a car from a thief? Ok, I'm being silly yet seriously, all for what purpose?
Looks like Underwater Cities complexity. I would play if someone who wants to play but no way I’m buying this without a dedicated group. This would scare the hell out of everyone I know.
@Kensai_ I don't understand why people say that Wayfarers is a tough game to learn. Yeah, there may be a lot of little rules, but the concept of the game it's pretty simple... It is now about the strategy - which cards and combos synergize the best, which makes it that way.

Thanks for the review! Sitting in shrink on my shelf... need to get it to the table.

Great video overview and review. I tried the game, 2 games solo, and loving it!.

Hey Alex,
How do you feel about the theme of the South series?
Thanks.

This game is bloody brilliant.
Yes it is :)

Points and points and points and points!

I’ve been on the fence about this game, but your review just tipped the scales in favor of getting it.
How is learning THIS compared to learning Raiders, or Hadrian's? Great review, this wasnt on my radar, but you have piqued my interest!!
Tougher than both for sure. Raiders is pretty light. Hadrian's is tougher but wayfarers felt more so
