With the video running, the trails appear as long as they do due to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persistence_of_vision . That is the same effect that lets our eyes perceive trails when we view LEDs flowing live. Video of the more-expensive Visual V4 trails can benefit from post processing. You can shoot 25 fps and echo ~8 frames for fully circular (360 degree) trails. With masking, the performer won't look trailed. Hi North, no extra post processing needed, only plenty of light from LED panels and a camera with good colors (in this case Sony PXW-X70).
I've seen these things in person a couple times...I can vouch for no post processing on this video. They're insane!
