He had his finger so firmly on the pulse of being able to pick the absolute perfect song to go along with these amazing shots in his films. I've seen Goodfellas countless times now and this scene never fails to give me the chills. Perfection.
I always get chills at his expression from 0:18 to 0:21 as soon as he does his little eyebrow twitch. Like you can see the gears working in his head of what he’s going to do and how happy he’ll be to get rid of his problems.
Nicholas Pileggi (the guy who wrote the screenplay) told somewhere Marty said to him '"put in Cream" when he came to this scene on paper. i.e. he was thinking with music as he was reading the play.

I love the research De Niro put into this role, he asked Henry Hill and also the person De Niro's character is based on (Jimmy Burke) about how he would do things like hold his cigarette, how he walked, and even learned from Jimmy Burke himself how he poured his ketchup so he could do it the same way. (Jimmy put ketchup on EVERYTHING.)
Amazing. Such good acting. The simplicity and complexity of communicating and conveying a thought or an emotion just looking at his eyes. Without saying a word. Great Directing, great editing and camera work. Amazing Cinema!

If Morrie told his wife about the money and still didn't receive it, Jimmy had a suspicion that Morrie and his wife would turn and go to the police if Morrie didn't get part of it. Jimmy had enough of Morrie hassling him about it and didn't want to risk it so he had Morrie murdered. Life in the mafia is scary and brutal

It's only natural that as a gangster, Jimmy was already a bad guy. I mean really they all were, cause again, they're gangsters; what else are they supposed to be, good? But this scene? This is where he became a villain.

everytime I see this scene it just gives me goosebumps!! Robert de Niros acting is just one of a kind that sinister little grin he does with the stare is just amazing and it's the simplest little thing as you would think but it's really not it's perfect acting
