    S320 cdi 4 matic, 200 tkm, delivered just back to the dealer. Car been totally neglected the last 18 month. Changing timing chain and tensioner at his cost. After that, I will have to flush and replace every fluid- system in the car plus paint correction, cd changer, injector- refurbishment and walve adjustment, new quality tires, and, if I am correct, som underbody-"protection". I look forward to restore this one to desirable condition.

    Excellent video my friend! I almost disagreed with you about the cost of maintaining and having the wife and kids leaving but upon closer examination it sounds like you are talking about a “POORLY” maintained w221 on the used market not W221 kept in great condition. I’ve had my S600 (2007) since 2016 purchased for 32K with less than 10K miles and I just went over 100K with no problems. Coils and plugs just changed not due to failure but just because it’s time and flushed the ABC at 80K other than that flawless. No issues

      Car was serviced at mercedes dealer. I have been servicing it with all oil and other fluids. It is an expensive car to maintain. If you dont care about the cost, it is the best feeling to own one.

    • @ccinc.7377
      @ccinc.7377 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree! My S600 w221 is less to maintain than my Audi and Lexus combined. Don’t believe the horror stories by people who drive a classic car like maniacs because it has so much power. I drive my 600 daily which is key, never let her sit for more than a day or so. For some reason S-classes are jealous af!! Take her out on the road even if it’s just for a few minutes and don’t be afraid to open her up on the highway every so often. She was built to wined and dined on the autobahn not just taken to the local piggly-wiggly driving 25mph. Now as I said before, you can’t just drive like a maniac cause then you will have issues. No burnouts and inconsiderate acceleration, she doesn’t like that type of treatment. Also, just because she floats like a magic carpet in an Arabian fantasy novel, doesn’t mean you can drive like potholes don’t exist. I’ve driven her over 90K miles since 2017 and yes I changed all my plugs at 100K $360 and I changed the coils not because they failed but why not since I’m already under the hood and there’s a guy who sells these for about $600 each (with core credit) not $1500 each from the stealership I mean dealership. In over 4 years I’ve had no issues. Change the oil every 5K miles, I change the brakes when the worn light comes on and flushed the ABC system at 80K miles. No exaggeration, my W221 has been the lowest cost to maintain vehicle I’ve ever owned and in my earlier days I swore by my Accord’s reliability. Do not let people plant these false fears of high maintenance costs, it’s not the car it’s the driver! Take my advice, drive her like you are caressing the soft supple chest of a lover and not like she’s an indestructible tank (even though she actually is. Lol) and you will quickly find why the W221 S600 could be arguably the best S-Class ever made.

  • @gasolara2002

    I say the w222 has a lower quality interior. The leather is way better on the w221 across the board. As far as maintenance get one that has been driven and maintained. Don't get one that sits with super low miles. The nightmares will occur when seals and gaskets start to leak as the vehicle gets used more. In the US market the most trouble free models are the v12 models as the engines are less complex than the modern v8 counter parts. The v12 cooling system is not filled with plastic pipes unlike the v8 models. The v12 uses port injection so no carbon cleaning is required unlike the v8 models. I would only get a w222 in a v12. The w221 I would choose either the non-amg NA v8 model or the v12 models.

    From the research I saw the Mercedes adaptive cruise control was the first to be radar based and not lidar based. Then to follow on the W221 was the first car to offer distronic plus or in other words the first system that would completely stop the car. And at least watching some videos on the technology don’t know if W221 was the first but it could follow multiply cars so you wouldn’t overtake a car on the left side.

    Ps I think the ride is firmer in the w222 is a phantom demand for a sportier ride !!

    • @IKhanNot
      @IKhanNot 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      5.5 M273 unless you find an M278 turbo motor that has had the timing chain, timing chain tensioner and guides replaced. Also, the valve cover gaskets, which are prone to leaking, is a big job on the M278 turbo motor because the fuel injectors have to be removed and there are some issues with injectors sticking. The M273 is a simpler and more stout motor.

    • @davewidhalm4380
      @davewidhalm4380 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IKhanNot, the timing chain tensioner and guides issue only applied to models into the 2014 model year. It just made some of the engines a bit more chattery and did not affect drivability. The issue was addressed by the factory on all cars after that. The M278 motors are lightyears more reliable than the old 5.5 NA motors. Valve cover gasket leaks only apply to cars that were barely driven and the gaskets begin to dry out. The same is true for all MB modern engines that have sat for extended periods of time without being driven. I haven't heard of any complaints about sticky injectors on the M278....at least not in the forums.

    You really don't know what you're talking about. Mercedes-Benz has over 100,000 parents, far more than any other brand. They don't put out a product until it's tried and true. Yes Cadillac came out with night vision first but they used infrared technology that had many shortcomings and Mercedes developed deplore radar that is much more advanced and what the military uses today. Case in point Mercedes still offers night vision because it works and Cadillac abandoned it. I don't feel like discrediting any more of your nonsense as I'm to lazy to keep typing

But the problem that I'm having with the shifting is that it do it only when the car is cold, but once it heats up it runs really smooth. I just don't like the shifting. Some people try to tell me that it's supposed to do that and that is not true because I drove a few just to see and they don't do that. From somebody who owned a 2007 S600 and now owns a W222 S550, I have to disagree with you on many points. The W222 is a MUCH better looking car inside and out. The W221 now looks quite dated, especially the interior. It has aged much better than the cost cutter W220, but it still looks old these days. The pre-facelift models (like yours) looks very dated on the outside, especially those tail lights and headlights. Your "peanut butter" interior was the ugliest color offered in the W221 and really makes it look old. The black/charcoal interior by far looks and holds up the best. No doubt the fit and finish of the W221 was excellent with no costs spared at the time on materials, especially on the S600 and S65. But the same is true of the W222. The W222 is lightyears ahead of the W221 in styling and the interior completely blows it away. The 5.5 NA motor in the W221 now seems ancient compared to the 4.6 bi-turbo motor in the W222 in every respect, and the 4.6 has proven to be significantly more reliable than the old 5.5 NA motor. Ride quality and quietness in the W221 and W222 are pretty much identical. The only advantage the W221 has is a little more trunk space than the W222, especially in models with reclining rear seats. The W222 will likely go down as the last truly beautiful S-class as the W223 looks generic at all angles and the interior looks like a hacked Tesla. MB really screwed the pooch on the new model.

    • @steeltag
      @steeltag 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      glad to read your perspective too. I LOVE the interior design of the w222, but NOT the exterior...looks just ....bland compared to curves of w221.Oh, the OP's car's taillights look better than the replacement, sorry, gotta disagree with ya there

      W222 has gone much cheaper interior...less wood, less leather, & too much plastic.

    • @davewidhalm4380
      @davewidhalm4380 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tonyluk112, I'm not sure what W222 car you looked at, but you are factually incorrect with that statement. The only way to get more leather in a W221 would be to have the S600, S65, or one with the Designo interior and compare it to a base W222 S550. The only place where the W222 doesn't have the faux wood that that the W221 did was around the COMAND control knob (which would look very silly on a W222 due to layout). Otherwise the W222 has a more expansive use of wood. And not sure where your comments are coming from regarding use of plastics. Both cars pretty much have plastic in the same areas depending how they are optioned. I really liked my W221 S600 A LOT (with the best color combo of black on black)! But compared to the W222 is does look very dated and the tech now feels ancient. I couldn't even stream music through Bluetooth. :(

      @@davewidhalm4380 Dave it is fine to be a fan of the w222. But alot more of us disagree with you on it. I have had a w222 for 2 yrs and i went back to the w221 and i enjoy it better then the w222. Alot of people enjoy have a NEW CAR but alot of us do not like the cookie models like the w222. For example S-Class, E-Class, C-Class looks like (Large, Medium, Small).

      By the way, is it normal that the steering can go retract inside and outside but cant go up and down??
      maybe the steering adjustment system is faulty?

    This thing looks like a Nissan Altima on Steroids. The 222 looks worse and the 223 is the worst of all. And it's interior looks like a cross between a chintzy 80's video game arcade and a Shanghai brothel. The last truly great S Class was the W126. The W140 had presence but it wasn't as elegant as any of it's predecessors, the 108/109, 116 and 126 and everything that came after it was too much of a compromise and far to stupidly complex.

      @@snggarageeng When it first came out I hated it. It wasn't ugly but they had listened to too many criticisms about the W140 and tried to make the 220 look like it wasn't as big or imposing. More "eco-friendly" which I thought was stupid and not befitting an S-Class. But seeing what has happened after it the car has grown on me. I know it's more cheaply built than the W140 but it's still better than almost anything else on the road from any manfacturer. When you are at the peak of Mount Olympus. Even if you slide a little way down the slope you are still way better than everyone else down in the valley below. I like them so much now that I'm considering getting one myself.

      They are both great models. I like them both, but from the ones I have driven they still don't feel like the same quality of a well maintained late model W140.

      W222 has gone much cheaper interior...less wood, less leather, & too much plastic.
