I always loved the way that they just stood there and let what's coming to them happen. Great reaction folks. I grew up with Stan and Babe (Ollie). One of their films that Stan was directing, Ollie just wasn't angry enough in a scene. Stan knew that he just wanted to finish and go playing golf, so he got him to do it over and over again until he was genuinely angry. And that was a wrap. Genius.
Good times! Don't forget about "Sons of the Desert!" Arguably, their greatest film. It's in the Library of Congress (along with "The Piano") permanently preserved as having "historical and cultural significance." Great movie and very, very funny! Love the British accents. Sometimes, I have to think about what "Daughter" said for a minute even though it's English! 🤣
One of the best recurring bits of Laurel & Hardy: Stan coming up with a great idea, Ollie asking him to repeat it, Stan messing up what he said before, Ollie understanding it
Two of the funniest men who still make us laugh close to 100years since there film's were made all there film's of the 20s and 30s are great and show the boy's in there prime. 😂😂🤣
What an absolute classic, as much of their films were, we just love Laurel and Hardy. Speaking of which, my grandson films our model railway and has started trying out stop-motion animation. He hasn't done it yet but is thinking about doing a Laurel and Hardy one. His latest video is called 'School Holidays ', and it's on his Dylington Model Railway channel. Why not have a look and see what you think...cheers James 😁👍
Laughed all the way through it. Ollie looking at the camera as if we are with him is the best part. The Little Rascals episodes have got to be on your list for reactions.
Can i just say it's been an absolute privilege to watching yourself and your dad reacting to my childhood comical classic laurel and hardy. Please keep doing more i love them and i'm not the only one either you have many fans and well deserved both of you.
If you haven’t already seen them (or even if you have), you ought to check out their 1934 “THEM THAR HILLS” and its 1935 sequel “TIT FOR TAT”. Suffice to say that their relentless feud with Charlie Hall is never-ending 👏🏻🤣
How about "The Chimp?" And "Pack Up Your Troubles?" You said it, but only one. "Im dead again!" Your epic reactions just get more hilarious...laughs on top on laughs, on top of heart attacks. You two are a joy to see. Im so happy when you review Laurel and Hardys shorts!!😂😂
Hello guys. This is one of my all-time favorites. My son and I will often do the ". . . well you started it . . . NO I didn't . . . yes you did" routine and we laugh every time. Please react to "Them thar hills" - then "Tit for Tat." You must watch "Hills" first as "Tat" is sort of a continuation of a story. It's the only sequel they ever made. Both have Mae Busch and Charlie Hall that are in many other L&H movies. Two more of the very funny shorts of the '30's.
Hilarious! Possibly my favourite L&H short. A future recommendation is "Blotto". Very different from the craziness of shorts like Towed in a Hole and Helpmates, but Stan Laurel is brilliant in it, as is the wonderful Anita Garvin, who plays his scary wife.
Can’t wait for “Blotto” and “Blockheads”, two of their very best. Seen “Blockheads” a hundred times and it still makes me laugh as hard as the first time.
Consider watching "The Bohemian Girl" if you haven't already. Stan and Ollie are Gypsies. Litte Darla Hood of the Little Rascals is in the film and there is a sad note. Thelma Todd is seen singing a song in the opening scenes, but she is replaced by Julie Bishop because Todd died a few months before the film was finished and released. Her official cause of death was ruled a suicide, but there is good evidence that the man she dropped - Lucky Luciano - the gangster had her killed.
My mom was a teacher and showed this short to some of her classes. Apparently, some of the kids had similar relationships in school, because some made comments that Stan and Ollie reminded them of their classmates. 😂 The only other actor in this was Billy Gilbert, who was also in The Music Box as the professor. He was also in a film with Cary Grant, His Girl Friday.
When I was a kid there was the Laurel and Hardy comedy hour on Saturday mornings. I remember this episode very well especially when Stanley started sawing the mast with his neck in line with the saw. Hilarious! My wife and I have subscribed to your channel to have more laughs from the past.
Brilliant. Love to see such appretiation for these two. Another good on is "Night Owls", or, if you care for a longer raction, "Saps At Sea" or "Blockheads". Cheers to the UK
Oliver Hardy actually had a very good singing voice - he was also from the US South, so understood the Blues, which his 'fish cry' at the start is in the style of.
Trivia time! Oliver NORVELL Hardy was a great singer. He was unregularly trained, but trained nevertheless by a rather known teacher. Oliver was so good at singing that he COULD have pursued a serious singing career. Instead, he got interested in early silent movies. He failed at making a living with THAT, but was lucky enough to get a foot in the door at some point, and that ultimately led to the inevitable, him and Laurel meeting and being paired together because of their amazing synergy. The movie is one of the "Hardy is to blame" movies, as the absolute majority of what is happening comes from his inability to direct Stan properly - Stan even showed superior intelligence here when he figures out that you can make more money with his idea. All the things Ollie does are his own fault, for letting Stan do things the wrong way instead of instructing him how to do it properly. You may remember salesman Joe in this, it's Billy Gilbert, from another movie - that's right, he was the professor with the very long name who HATES music boxes in the movie "The Music Box". You would have never guessed because of how different he sounds and looks here, right? Olivers accent is very thick in this movie, listen to the way he says "first", you will have never heard a thicker "foist" than this, in any movie. So does Stan, now you know who invented the "woter" in bottle of water (say it in british english). The paint that Ollie was using wasn't paint, it was just sludge with colour in it, so when rinsed with water, it came off really well. They did have really aggressive paint sorts with lead in them, back in those days, amongst other nasty filler material, so of course they could and would not expose the actors to this - unlike the wizard of Oz, which had their actors and staff inhale literal gypsum dust and asbestos fibers - you can see how the paint is fake as Ollie is instantly almost fully clean when submerging himself twice in the water for the followup shot (there is a very obvious cut between him falling in and then the duck being added, and Ollie re-emerging from the water for the shot WITH the duck). Continuity error: look how dry Stan is, right DURING the end of their water-duel. Why? Because the water in the boat was ambient, and it wasn't that comfortable. To avoid pneumonia (a terribly serious illness way back when, and in cases even today!) they had to ensure that the actors weren't wet throughout the filming - also, you could not have wet actors during pauses where the script is re-checked and discussions about lighting are had and all that, so the actors literally got dried off. Plus the filming took long enough anyways so that damp clothes turned relatively "dry" on their own after a while. Still, it had to be super uncomfortable wearing all cotton clothing and being constantly submerged or sprayed with water. The scene was filmed not in a studio but outdoors, as is evident when watching 16:37 ish, when Stan sadly and whiningly says "You certainly did!", there is a person walking in the far distance beneath the large pine (?) and 2-forked birch tree. The outdoors location was the "Roach Ranch", a ranch owned by Hal Roach himself, which was the best location for outdoor shots like this. So naturally, there wasn't any port nearby. I was able to look up its location coordinates: 34°2'27"N 118°23'21"W I did leave a similar trivia for "The Music Box", the staircase still exists today as well. Stan is cleaning the anchor and chain with a brush, and water and soap - it could work, but not really well, at rust removal not at all that is. He's wringing out the chain like its a bed sheet or a towel, I thought that would get a laugh out of you, does get one out of me all the time, because it is so absurdly slapstick. Stans previous Mime experience shows very well in the part where he plays with himself. The man was just a natural, and it proves why he was working on skits with the director and writers so many times, he just knew BEST what works in which moment and how to utilize everything in the environment and on their own person, to make humor. In the german dub for this, as many other movies of the Pair, some sound effects are snappier. The sound effect for Stan hitting his chin is a much more snappy "clonk". In another movie of theirs is a scene where one hits the other on the butt, and the noise is a terribly loud and funny "snap", like a gunshot almost. Pretty fun, that. That tiny Model T would have had a terrific problem pulling that boat anyways. It had about 110nm of torque, that's just a wee bit less than a normal compact car these days, but only 20 HP, which is much less than a normal compact car today. It could have pulled the boat for sure, but the engine and drivetrain would have worked overtime doing so. All in all, the movie is a solid 5/5, but thats just in my opinion. Laurel and Hardy films are hard to rate objectively, since todays humor and generations are different and generally have a hard time to decypher the meanings and humor of these types of movies, you need to literally study them to make heads or tails out of why they are funny, and you need to be 'predestined' to like this kind of comedy anyways.
Humor may be different these days but you can't deny that this still stands the test of time and is quite influential on much of the comedy that followed e.g. Father Ted and Mrs Doyle falling out of the window etc. etc.
AW, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE LAUGHS & GOOD TIME ! PRECIOUS TO ME GUYS. LOVE YOU BOTH FOR HAVING THE GENIUS IDEA TO HAVE A COMEDY CLASSIC SECTION. THIS ONE WAS VERY FUNNY. BTW, THE LITTLE DANCE ROUTINE IN ' WAY OUT WEST ( 1937 ) IS A DELIGHTFUL MOMENT I LOVE. PEACE & LAUGHS , GUYS.😅😅😅
Hi lovely I'm glad you two are enjoyed it one of the funniest, maybe the next time you watch Laurel and Hardy you two should see (1933)The Midnight Patrol next when they played police officers this is so funny as well.
Another classic featuring a boat is The Live Ghost. In this one the pair agree to help a curmudgeonly sea captain 'recruit' unwilling sailors from a waterfront bar. It boasts an excellent supporting cast, including Mae Busch and Charlie Hall - who also appear in Them Thar Hills and its sequel Tit For Tat, neither of which will disappoint you.
Don't sleep on their silents- they're just as funny. Standouts are: Two Tars(1928) Big Business(1929) The Battle of the Century(1927) with probably the best pie 🥧 fight scene filmed 🎥

Luv how their shorts all build on something little at first, then accelerates to crazy. Sixty+ years, they never get old.
