@@bonniehirtz5640 It took becoming an adult, but in my later years I interpreted it as that a good chunk of the song takes place in a strip club or a "hostess bar", and he's throwing down money to keep the women's attention. So he's both monopolizing the women that other men in the club want to make time with, and the strippers feel like they've got an easy mark to milk.

Ironically, this was Roseanne's only song to hit the Top 100... but it was also her first Country #1 hit. She had TEN total in the 80s. One I might recommend is "My Baby Thinks He's a Train"... if there's ONE Roseanne song that will make you say "Yeah, that's Johnny's daughter", it's that one. I'd also recommend you add "Walk the Line" to your movie list. It's a great biopic of Cash's life.

The Country Music of the 80's and 90's was called Neotraditional. It mixed the feel of the older music with the sound and production values of the times. Singers like George Strait, Alan Jackson, Patty Loveless, Reba McEntire and Rosanne Cash are part of that group.

This song not only went to #1 on the Billboard Country chart, but it also did peaked at the #21 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart during the early summer of 1981. Believe it or not, I'm 65 and a week ago was the first time I'd ever heard of her or this song. Stunning voice, great song, great lyrics Apparently I've been living under a rock, with my head in the sand and my mind was in outer space.

"It Hasn't Happened Yet", "Pink Bedrooms" and her cover, along with Mary Chapin Carpenter and Shawn Cplvin, of Dylan's "You Ain't Goin" Nowhere" at Madison Square Garden in 1992 for the all-star concert celebrating Bob Dylan's 30th year anniversary. Johnny Cash introduces them and gives Roseanne a kisso on the cheek and these 3 women sound so great together. With all the stars there that night, this was one of my favorite performances on a night of great performances

'Sever year itch' is the cliché about couples losing the passion around 7 yrs into a relationship. Not sure how long the expression's been around but it's been around all of my life (I'll be 60 next month). I like Rosanne's seven year ache better as it seem more accurate to me...

I love Roseanne Cash! She is a very successful country star. She and Tanya Tucker ruled the airwaves in the 80s. “Such a Small World” is a great song she recorded with Rodney Crowell.

I used to play guitar for Johnny's brother Tommy. He had a few hits. His main one being "Six white horses". Tommy's son Mark (played with him as well) is still performing as is Tommy. Johnny and Tommy had some duets as well.

I was listening to this in my car earlier - her lyrics in this song are underrated - "heartaches are heroes when their pockets are full." Another great song by Roseanne Cash is "I'm Wondering" - highly recommend.

If you want another father daughter duo... check out Mel and Pam Tillis. Pam was huge in the '90s, while her legendary father was most popular in the '70s and '80s. Both were prolific songwriters too, writing for some top names.
I recommend their duet "Waiting on the Wind". Some of Pam's hits include "Maybe It Was Memphis" , or "Shake the Sugar Tree" or "Cleopatra, Queen of Denial". Mel was known for "Coca Cola Cowboy" or "Mental Revenge" or "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town" (Also recorded by Waylon Jennings, Kenny Rogers, among others, even Leonard Nimoy, Star Trek's "Mr. Spock" has covered this song).
BTW, Mel was known for his stutter when he spoke.... but had no stutter when he sang. He was also Country music Association Entertainer of the year in 1976. Mel passed away in 2017. Grammy award winning Pam is still active.

I was a 19 year old kid and a Soldier stationed at Fort Polk, LA when I discovered Rosanne, had such a big crush on her and loved everything she ever did. I have all her vinyl. Her and her dad weren't getting along all well back then, she cut a song called Tennessee Flat Top Box and found out later that Johnny had cut it years before. They were both at the Grand Ol' Opry one night, not talking, when he was on stage and asked, in front of the entire crowd, if she would come out and do this song with him. Reluctantly she did, but it broke the ice between them. Great move on both their parts to do that.

Her husband, at the time, was Rodney Crowell, another country singer, "She's Crazy For Leavin'".
