    3 reflectors into one conector? And Theres no fire from It? ALL blues into the 1st BLUE conector and all browns into 1st Brown connector ? Which connector is that and what are the specs?

  • @Andersenjonas
    @Andersenjonas 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Hi Mark. The wire connectors you are using are called "fire starters". You should solder the wires together and then use some heat-shrink tube. Much safer. :)

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I have used those type of connectors for 20 odd years and never has a single problem,if they were a fire hazard like you say they wouldnt be sold.
      Also the t8 lights I have have a similar connection and they were bought like that.

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      by the way I do use a solder iron and I do have shrink tube ,if it was just the one light going to a power cable I would do it your way :)

    • @Andersenjonas
      @Andersenjonas 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They are on the way out of production in consumer products. But its not to say ur way of doing is wrong. Its just not the safest way of doing it, they are just used mostly for testing things now. When you see them in fixtures, there are always some form of brace on the wire, that removes the stress from the connector, so it dosent pop out over time. Just what i know from the buisness of working with electric, and the rules of getting a new product approved for IP something. :)

    What about the average large Aquarium Mark? The 55- 500 gallons? What LED does grow plants and makes the fish look good? LED floodlights and 6000K sounds like my old daylight florescent shop lights. What I want? LED's that can power down 24" of water,grow plants and have sort of a grow lux color..make Neons pop for example. I love plants,have been in horticulture and what grows them isn't what always looks good. Plus,Im looking for like $30 or so for a LED that can do that..two or three of them in my case. Maybe 30 watts each or maybe 50?
    What do you say my man?

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think these lights were just 20 watts and they were good on this size of tank 220 liters I am notsure what that is in gallons, 30 watt might be better for what you need though.

    • @StanTheObserver-lo8rx
      @StanTheObserver-lo8rx 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark,if you painted a few of the LED's with thinned out red and blue paint..would that give a more natural color? Better for show tanks.

    I bought a pair of these lights
    Both died after a 4-5 month on a timer that runs 8 hours a day . I figure maybe the LED chip was burnt or something. So I took it apart to see what's inside. Turns out it no simple task to replace the bulb chip. So.... Not so good experience with my light lol

      I know that my friend, In Norway appliances that are double insulted do not require a groundwire, me saying Canadians must have lower standards was me questioning the guys knowlege because he said he was a master electrician. He also said the little plastic connectors I used were a fire hazard ...I can take a picture of at least 20 of them that I know about that are used in this houses lighting.

    nice cheap way for lights! but one concern is the energy consumption, would it be costly to have 60watt (20 each)?

    • @MarksShrimpTanks

      60 watts over that size of tank is good ,the two t8 that came out were 72 watts in total .

    Even though you think you bought from Hong Kong, chances are that it still came from China as many Chinese companies register their company also in Hong Kong.
    I have flood lights above my tank too and they do pretty fine now for almost a year.

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thats just stating the obvious my friend, although anything coming from hongkong has to be made to a certain standard. My lights are still going great :)

    • @martinwelters370
      @martinwelters370 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yep...anything from Hong Kong is probably better build. I live 5 minutes away from HK, so anything that really needs to be good, I buy there, but my floodlights I still bought here in China as they were dirt cheap (2 euro per 30W light, can't beat that) ... :))
