    Don't listen to someone telling you to talk less. Your narrative is perfect and what we love. They can turn the volume down if they need to, but I like to hear your talk.

    The ore is dumped from the tramway into the ore bins. Then the ore travels up to the top of the mill on that inclined conveyor beltway. It is then dumped into jaw crushers and then the ball mill. A large tumbler that the balls are in turns and crushes the ore. That smoke stack is the Smelter which basically cooks the material out of the crushed ore. Most all mills are built on split levels or on the side of a hill because gravity is the main work force of mills. Great job of exploring. I love mills. All kinds of machinery. You might want to pick up a copy of "Drills And Mills" by Will Mayerriecks. It explains all the machinery used in mills and how it all works.

      Wonder Hussy What mining claim are you on? My great grandfather lived & ran mines in Pioche. They trammed the ores from the Prince mine I believe. Mining silver. It was owned by WS Godbe & was the Pioche Consolidated mines. Im positive that's it.

    • @marthasheahan5380
      @marthasheahan5380 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Millions of $$$$ were taken out of that Mine & there's millions more being mined now. I had stock in that company that my g grandfather left dated 1895. There's a lot of history there.

    An aerial tramway carried buckets ore from the mines to the Godbe Mill.
    The tramway ran during the 1920s and 1930's, but was only used for the
    transportation of silver and nickel ore.

    Those balls you found are actually called "Mill Balls". I work at a gold mine here in northern Nevada and believe it or not those ball mills are still used today in the mining process. The reason why you found all different sizes of balls is because over time and use, the mill balls start grinding down and start getting smaller and smaller untill theyre gone. They start about cannon ball size!

  • @bobjackson4720
    @bobjackson4720 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You are one brave lady. Very impressive. The balls crush the ore in the ball mills, the mixed balls you found in the drums were removed when they got to be too small to do the job.

    Would love to see the plans for that mill that they used to build it! What a maze! Pioche was one rough town in it's hayday. They say that 72 men died in gunfights before the first natural death occured in the camp. It is famous for the first Boot Hill, which is one of the landmarks in the city. Pioche was one of the most important silver mining towns in Nevada. Cool find, Wonder Hussy.

    Grew up literally across the highway from this mill. Never went and explored, we all knew what No Trespassing meant. Neat video, but it’s videos like these that end up drawing people in and trespassing all kinds of places. Just because the caretaker doesn’t catch you, and there’s no one around, doesn’t mean you can just cross a gate and walk around. You didn’t take anything from there, but the next person may want to go in and help themselves to whatever they can get their hands on.

    That might make a nice side trip the next time I'm in that general area, hopefully this year. I'll add it to my to-do list out there, which currently includes seeing Area 51 again (for the umpteenth time, but probably from a different mountain peak this time), having a burger, revisiting a rarely visited crash site, and finding a particular, very strange rock again that I stumbled across by accident on a previous hike to a crash site. The one photo where I sat my GPS on the rock, it was too out of focus to read the coordinates, and the track log was accidentally turned off! Also planning to hike cross-country a few miles between two related sites of interest, rather than drive as close as possible to each for two separate hikes. So many crash sites and debris fields exist in that area, that maybe I'll find something related or unrelated between the two. Or some elk antlers and military flare debris like last time.
    Hopefully without nailing my boot to my foot with cactus spines like last time! Ouch. Tweezers, pliers, and a knife....don't leave home without them! That was actually a case where flip-flops would have been a good thing, to be able to pull the sole straight down to remove the spines, and to also have access to cutting them between the flip flop and foot, unlike with a boot.

    So what is it about mining in the Great Basin? Are the ore deposits pretty small? Years ago a geologist found a deposit of Uranium ore in the White Mountains of NH-they were never able to get a mining permit. My guess is that it was too small to be worth it.

    Order a pair of Keen brand shoes from Zappos. They have a wide toe box, several styles are ventilated and all have protection from stubbing your toes. On my adventure trips outside the U.S. only need the pair I wore on the airline. Last year they handled the wet in the Peruvian Amazon to the Rocks in Machu Picchu to the canals in France. Actually, they did quite well on the strip in LV too.

    I went up to Pioche to go exploring and only explored the town up on the side of the hill. I never got to actually explore the old mill. Next time when I go about in that part I shall explore the mill.

    Some people are meant to be ignored. My wife and I have decided that you are the second coming of Gertrude Stein. If one ever wanted to hear the musings of the mind of Gertrude, girl you got it. Better looking for sure but your content like the Donner Party is most excellent and you are a natural muse and you ask the simple but hard questions that Gertrude was notorious for. That childlike curiosity coupled with the mind of an experienced soul makes for conversation worth hearing. Keep talking. Don't always agree with some of your views on life, but hey, that's what keeps us thinking and changing and most of all, growing.

    To be a mechanic there you just needed a hammer and a pouch of nails. Amazing how much wood construction was used. I wonder when it was in use ,Wonder ?
