Just now seeing this. I remember our summer trips to this area. We stayed in the campgrounds along this road between RR and Questa but I dont remember which ones.
I do remember one place in particular along this road. It would have been on the left side of the road if driving to Questa. You could see the face of the mountain with all the tailings from the Moly mine. There was only room for like 3 cars/trailers/campers. Also, an old mine entrance was a short hike (5-10 minutes) from the camp site. This would have been mid-late 60's. I was about 10 years old. Ive driven this road many times since and have been unable to locate the camp site. It could also not have been an official camp site.

That whole area has changed so much! Even in the 10yrs we have visited Red River we are amazed every visit. Thanks for watching.

Thank you for taking the time to upload this! Many people use poor cameras and drive too fast. I like the fact that you stayed there, walked around the CG and showed the sites.

You are welcome! That is our goal since there just aren't enough campground reviews out there that with useful information. Check out the rest of our reviews from this summer, and let us know if you have any recommendations! We appreciate the feedback.

I forgot to mention, we did the walkaround early on Friday so most campsites were still empty. This was not true by dinnertime as all campsites filled up. Campers drove up and down thru the campground all day Friday and Saturday, looking for an empty spot. We even saw an incident with someone setting up camp on an already reserved site - until those people arrived and made them pack up and leave. It would be nice if the camp Host put out a sign at the entry stating that the campground was FULL, like we saw at other campgrounds.
Half the campsites are reservation on recreation.gov website, the other half are first come-first serve and those filled up quickly. We recommend arriving mid-week if you don't have a reservation!

Columbine campground is $20 per night and if you have a National Parks pass Senior or Access Pass discount it is half price.

Nice scenery, but it's a shame that theres no water or electricity.

Yes, and no. Its beautiful in its remoteness, adding electric and water would make it even harder to get a reservation. There are campgrounds with amenities closer to town if you want.

That definitely would’ve been me as an out of stater not wearing a dumb useless mask. Such a sad chapter of government overreach and authoritarianism. About to arrive in RedRiver and am excited!!

The masks didn't help at all so that was a waste.
