Hi Marianne! We design and create our products ourselves though we would possibly like to have an assistant in the future! We purchase our base wreaths bare and add everything to them. We create items and fill orders daily but usually have several intense work days (especially during the holiday season) to crank out as many as possible. It’s hard work but we love it! Also my husband and I work as a team so I’m not working alone 😄
Etsy requires that all products sold be either handmade or vintage. If you’re selling handmade items, yes- I would recommend getting your supplies from a wholesaler! I talk more in some of our other Etsy videos (you can find them on our Etsy playlist) on how to find the right wholesale companies to buy from :)

Hello! I have a question about tags, if anyone feels like they can help me out! Is it right or wrong to repeat the same word in your tags, but in different variations? For example I'll refer to the ones used in this video 'christmas sign' ,'holiday sign', 'wood christmas sign' ... thats the word 'sign' repeated three times. I've found E-rank picks up on this, and highlights the repeated words, suggesting you change them. However I keep seeing people saying this is the right thing to do, with proof of high sales. Is this a way to boost your visibility? Or is it wrong to do, as apparently Etsy doesn't like repeated word tags.... please help, I'm so confused!
Hey Paige! We have always used repeated words in different variations and it has worked well. I haven’t seen anything published by Etsy that says otherwise so I don’t think it’s a big negative to repeat words in your tags. It’s a good question though and something to maybe dig more into researching among Etsy’s help articles!
Question. Have you been dealing with customer complaining that their order still isn't in? In my Etsy group, some shops are getting emails that items have not arrived, even though they ordered in early December. The new policies matched with more online shopping made this year horrible for our postal workers.
Yes this year has been quite difficult for shipping carriers and for shops expecting their orders to be delivered in a timely way. We had a few issues with some packages becoming lost or delayed but were able to work it out with our carrier through customer service. We always work with our buyers to come up with an agreeable solution if their package ended up getting delayed.
Great channel! I just found you. Now I have to binge watch all your videos. lol Question- I love the idea of free shipping, but can you limit that to domestic? I heard an Etsy seller say that they ended up shipping to another country and the shipping was so high that it cost their profit. Any thoughts on this?
Welcome Patrice! So glad you’re here! Great question- yes, you can limit the free shipping only to domestic in your shipping settings. I do this for that very reason- international shipping can get crazy expensive!!
I recently had a harsh wake-up call when I went over my etsy and ebay budget for products I sell in my stores. I was so excited when I'd get several hundred dollars in sales, thinking I was making good money. Then I went over fees, shipping supply costs, etc. For a $5 item, I'd be making maybe 50 cents. A $10 item might make me $1. Then etsy had a "free shipping guarantee" where orders of $35 and over had free shipping. So I might have a $50 order, making $5, then had to pay $10 in shipping, costing me $5. So I had to raise some prices and discontinue the free shipping, which is sad because there are so many other stores that have competitive prices, so I can't raise them too much. I have decided that the physical goods are not worth having in my store. They don't bring in enough money and they are time-consuming to package up for the small amount of money they bring in. As much time as I spend on my business, on a good day, I'm making $3 an hour. That's not enough to live off of. So I'm wondering if I should quit the physical goods altogether, or try selling them direct on my blog.
Aww friend, don’t give up! Sometimes it takes a while. What types of products do you sell? Have you tried the huge discount launch with family and friends to give it a boost?
Absolutely! You need to get a few sales on a listing for Etsy’s algorithm to notice it and start boosting it in the search. Even if it’s sales from family and friends! Offer a big discount for a short period of time (as big as makes sense for your profit margin) and promote it to family and friends. This will hopefully help get the ball rolling! Make sure everyone who purchases does so through your Etsy shop.

I only made one which was my sister who bought it and left a review.. will it still work since I changed it up to something else like resin jewelry? Or do i have to make a new etsy and everything?

I’m so sorry- there are so many hard parts of owning your own business! One thing you can do is create a special coupon code to be sent specifically to people who have abandoned their cart to help encourage them to make the purchase. You can do this in your Etsy marketing settings!

Conversion % is relative. If you have a product, let’s say, that is under twenty dollars. The thought process for the buyer is much shorter and less risky. But, in terms of my wreath business, my average item price is $100 US or more. Buyers are typically looking around/comparing a lot more when looking near that price range and may take them a while to finally buy. This makes conversion % less applicable than for other shops with less expensive items. What is important here is traffic data and the total amount of sales/revenue.
For our jewelry business we are more concerned with conversion data. Just for comparison, our jewelry shop, which we just started about 6-7 months ago, is at a 4.2% conversion rate. Why? Because the buyer is in a different mind frame when buying a small, relatively inexpensive bracelet, rather than a $100-120 wreath.
Actually this is untrue. Average conversion rates on Etsy are between .7 to 5%. Why the difference? Our wreaths are priced well over a hundred dollars a piece. The kind of buyer we draw with those types of items are pickier and often look around a lot more before purchasing. We have another business creating small jewelry and regularly hit the 5% range yet make a considerable amount more money with our wreath business. So is conversion rate important? It depends, if you aren’t making money OR have a smaller shop with smaller items, it’s a bigger deal. We have already hit 6 figures this year and hit it last year, so I’d say it doesn’t matter as much as other factors with our primary shop.

Conversion only 0.9%?
Conversion % is relative. If you have a product, let’s say, that is under twenty dollars. The thought process for the buyer is much shorter and less risky. But, in terms of my wreath business, my average item price is $100 US or more. Buyers are typically looking around/comparing a lot more when looking near that price range and may take them a while to finally buy. This makes conversion % less applicable than for other shops with less expensive items. What is important here is traffic data and the total amount of sales/revenue.
For our jewelry business we are more concerned with conversion data. Just for comparison, our jewelry shop, which we just started about 6-7 months ago, is at a 4.2% conversion rate. Why? Because the buyer is in a different mind frame when buying a small, relatively inexpensive bracelet, rather than a $100-120 wreath.

Your conversion is extremely low at 0.9%
Actually this is untrue. Average conversion rates on Etsy are between .7 to 5%. Why the difference? Our wreaths are priced well over a hundred dollars a piece. The kind of buyer we draw with those types of items are pickier and often look around a lot more before purchasing. We have another business creating small jewelry and regularly hit the 5% range yet make a considerable amount more money with our wreath business. So is conversion rate important? It depends, if you aren’t making money OR have a smaller shop with smaller items, it’s a bigger deal. We have already hit 6 figures this year and hit it last year, so I’d say it doesn’t matter as much as other factors with our primary shop.
