    Agree with your comment on the way “caste” is used as just a sprinkling in Soorarai Pottru. I was looking forward to that angle, especially after the storm the Mannurunda song created but was disappointed. I have a feeling that they edited those scenes out fearing a backlash. If that was indeed the case, then why make them in the first place.

      Dude. Watch Gopinath's old interviews and if possible look for his column writings as well. He always talked about poor/caste/lost opportunities/farmers/etc. The cost and caste barrier dialogue was from his old interview too.

    • @prezo1000
      @prezo1000 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@suryafan9290 even if Gopinath himself tells that.. it doesn't fall within the cinematic universe of SP. Like BR said, there was nothing in the film that showed Suriya's caste and him being denied the opportunity to start an airline because of that. (Ironical that Gopi was a Brahmin anyway). If Gopi says he lost out because of his caste - then it's all the more a reason why SP doesn't incorporate it. The market for SP is Tamil Mass audience and it services that perfectly.

    • @0AfterGamingGuy0
      @0AfterGamingGuy0 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Caste and class have become intertwined together for long time, so it's pretty hard to show the difference between them on the big screen. Class disparity originates from the caste system. So to talk about class discrimination without talking caste based discrimination is pointless. Gopinath being a brahmin makes no difference because there is caste discrimination amoung Brahmins too. The anihilation of caste system can only happen if there's constant dialogue between people of different castes .

Obviously we have different views, but before I always respected yur criticisms nd difference in opinion, bcoz it felt genuine though I like it or not. But nowadays you just categorize a movie as not upto the mark nd the difference you point out contradict with yourself( for eg, you said the character arc in Sp for bommi was not full or not powerful, but you praised the single speech nayanthara gives in bigil to sudharshans character. Fyi, Vijay says panatha apuram kudu, ipo enaku company kudu kind of dialogue in a dedicated to women movie), i kind of get a feel that when a quality movie releases in tamil you just criticize it right away, but don't find fault in some poor big hero movies. During the train scene in the beginning, a brahmin guy comments about the smell of the non-vegetarian food his co-passengers (who I suppose belong to an oppressed caste) have. This is a subtle way in which Sudha Kongara showed how caste discrimination existed in a transportation mode that was affordable by oppressed caste people. It gives a sense that the previleged caste people would try to keep a mode of transportation inaccessable to others to have a "clean" and hassle free journey. That gives more weight/depth to Nedumaaran's purpose. Caste should not be the underlying reason why he couldn't make it home before his father passed away.

      Yeah sorry that i talked bad about the film that's why I added "imo" later on and I complete respect yours for you it may have worked but it still doesn't to me like all the points you have given how he does small unimportant things to climb up the ladder was done in this other selva film "pudhupettai" as well but the thing is he didnt rush it and eventho dhanush was naive initially his character was always flawed since the start and he had his reasons like how his dad kills in mom and his life style and stuff...everything was very detailed and it worked like a charm but here Surya goes thru so much since the start yet he doesn't just give up and become the bad guy he struggles his way to the top and suddenly during intermission his friend kill himself and with in 30minutes after the intermission he goes wild and started doing random stuff and then he kills his own parents to get leverage ? I don't think that's a good character development a person like NGK who's served and stood by the people so much against all the odds during the first half can't just snap like that and go to the extent of killing his own parents to gain advantage idk no matter how much people justify it I can't take it I mean I can explain why kokki Kumaru was done right but I have already typed so much ig haha and oops I forgot to add RAKUL PREET like what's her deal at all in the film it's one of the character that comes more often than sai pallavi yet has nothing to do with surya's character development or the story idk miss but I defo can't take it as a good film unless the justification really makes sense I mean cmon surya's acting is great ? When has it been not good ? He's an amazing actor selva is an amazing director I'm not talking bad about any of them it's just as a film "IMO" this didn't serve at all sorry but may have worked for you and I totally respect that.

    Majority, I mean majority of tamil movie theatre-going audiences are 'masses' - belonging to lower (auto-drivers, daily wage workers, vegetable vendors etc) & middle class sections of society.
    The upper-middle/high class audiences are a minority. So all movies will be made to satisfy the majority.
