Unloading Woodchips with LoadHandler 3000

  • A quick video of my truck and the unloading ability of the LoadHandler 3000 system. The truck box is something I designed and built myself, I modified the LoadHandler slightly by changing the drag tarp shape, the method it attaches to the tailgate and the way the tailgate is held down before unloading, removing the original attachment hardware and swapping in ratchet straps. I tow my chipper and shoot into the truck, holds roughly 4 yards. The system works well, although it certainly isn't a replacement for a real dump truck. I don't have to shoot chips in the truck all that often and honestly if I did this would get old after a while. But it is cheap and works well.

Beautiful. I have a flat bed I built a box on. This has been my idea but couldn’t think of a good way to set it up. Possibly welding a giant rod to put the load handler on.

That is freaking awesome. Much respect. You think I could pick your brain a little bit? I am looking to do the same thing w an f350 for small pruning jobs. Any more pics of the truck? Any other tips? Any info would be much appreciated. Thank you

Would absolutely love and appreciate a deeper look at your truck box. Do you have the plans available ?

Been looking at load handlers myself for this exact purpose. Wondered how it would handle woodchip.

I know this video is a few years old but I will try anyways. Whats your opinion on this working well for split firewood? Im guessing its going to get caught on the wheel wells & the tarp will pull out from it without completely unloading. I could make inner sides to keep the wood within the wheel wells & then extend the sides a foot or two to make up the lost space. 04 Silverado 2500hd with 2 extra springs so im not worried about the sag. Thanks for your help on your opinion & tips.

Have you heard about ODTS, Organic dust toxic syndrome? Something to consider when moving piles of woodchip. Breathing in mold spores etc. Can make you quite Ill from what I understand. Something to look at.

Curious to know how you would mount this onto a flatbed? Thanks.

@ninefivezero How is this holding up / how long have you used it? Would you suggest it for a low grossing solo climber about to buy their first chipper??? It looks amazing for my budget and goals. I rent chipper and chip on site for most of my projects but would like to do more city work. Thanks for sharing!

I've had it on my truck for about 3 years at this point and it has held up well. Some of the hardware it comes with are junk and I upgraded those to ratchet straps. I usually shoot piles so I only chip into the truck a few times a month at most. It's certainly no dump truck, but it works very well for what it is and is a good starting place I'd say.
