    A good video to watch and learn from and your machinist skills are enviable to boot. My family and I owned several of these bikes back in the day and it's pleasing to see your efforts in restoring this engine.

      Thank you so much for your thoughts, and I envy your owning a Sears bike. I always wanted a "twingle", but this project is going slowly due to heart by-pass, and then my wife getting a by-pass as well. Now it seems it is time for me to head south for the winter. I hope to be able to get the forks and tank parts ready for the plater before I go.

    I have finished this engine now. You can see what I did to it and how it looks now in later videos.
    I have been slowed down on the project a bit due to health problems, but hope to be posting more videos soon.
    Thanks for watching.

    Hey great video, I had a years long sitting seizure on my 250sgs I copied your idea but used wood slugs, mine was just off top dead centre so I was worried the lower section of bore was possibly rusted below the skirt but I'm happy to report your idea worked great thanks for sharing

    I had the 175 version of that engine and I had it apart so many times I think I could have done it blindfolded.

    If I remember correctly the weak part on some of those Sears motorcycles was the flywheel key because the threaded end of the crankshaft was too small.

    There are people trying to restore a Puch that might really love some of these parts!

      Yes, and when I finish these bikes I will be happy to provide all the left-over parts to help others.
      As you can see from the video dates, I have been working on these for some time. These bikes are just a spare time project.

    The pistons on my 175 sv are stuck and in the up position. It's been sitting long without a plug. What do you think I should do?

      Turn engine to drain any water from cylinders. Fill with penetrant oil. Use old sparkplug to make fitting to attach to a piece of brake line as shown in this video. Use grease gun to force oil past pistons and rings. You should be able to force the cylinder up as far as the ports. Getting it the rest of the was off will require some other mechanism such as a jack screw like shown here.

    I have a puch175 twingle. I am trying to determine the oil drain plug size on the bottom of the case.
    Any help would be appreciated

      I do not have a 175 engine. I had a parts bike, but did not get the engine. The drain plugs will be a metric thread. If you can get the old plug out, use a micrometer to measure the O.D. of the threads.

      @@Adventurepilot70 yes that's the problem...I removed the drain plug and it was a 1/4-28. It even said 1/4 inch on the head of the bolt. Thats how I new it was wrong.
      I was hoping to find someone that could measure there drain plug threads and tell me what they were. I just figured a 250 might use the same thread.
      Thanks for responding. I appreciate the assistance

    • @Adventurepilot70
      @Adventurepilot70  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marctaillon6415 It is probably a 6mm metric bolt. You could get this at Menards or any good hardware store. Hope the threads are not messed up. Good luck with it.

    Hi sir, Iam curently start my project to rebuild my sgs 250 allstate, I need information about piston and bore clearance. do you have any information? thanks

    • @Adventurepilot70
      @Adventurepilot70  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi dewaadewaa. Nice to hear that you are starting on a Allstate 250 restoration project.
      My own project is taking some time, but underway with the painting right now.
      I don't have any information about the Puch 250 piston clearance, but I should think .004 inch would be very good. I would not think about a re-bore unless the clearance was over .008 inch. I simply honed my cylinders lightly as my engine had 10,000 miles on it, so wear was minimal. It might take some searching to find a cylinder hone with long enough stones, so they will not catch in the ports. The hone must go into a small 45mm bore, and that is difficult to find. Lawn mower shops might be of help. Remember, too loose is way better than too tight. The pistons are very long, so will not rattle easily.
      Best of luck with your project.😄
