Thanks Andrew. I'm just upgrading my skill level and saw blades were one of my questions - such a comprehensive answer that I now know how to think about sawing better.
Hello !!! Im new in making jewels ...I began last year with making silver coin rings... Now Im making signet rings , hollow rings , medieval rings , and some bracelets and ear rings too ...everything in silver . Im happy to learn new things , so Ive just subscribed to your youtube chanel . Thanks brother !!! Sorin / Roumania
Brilliant explanation as always! My teacher used to say you needed a “twing” and not a “twong” sound for the correct tension... it’s always served me well!
You make fantastic , definitive videos , and you have saved this learner ,many hours , much frustration and ultimately money , already . Thank you so much .
Thank you for sharing. I used an adjustable for years but I now really enjoy the “New Concept” frame. The one I use has the cam adjustment at the top. 😎🇨🇦
The Knew Concepts Mk.IV saw and the Green Lion are my favorites above all others for completely different reasons. The Mk.IV is just ingenious, I actually have two of them because I love them so much and keep different saw blades in each one for quick use, I usually use them on larger/deeper pieces because of its capabilities. But the Green Lion is so sleek, smooth, and elegant, I like to use it for much finer smaller pieces. The only time I ever use a different saw is for spiral wax blades, they’re shorter than the usual blade length so I have them in a German adjustable frame. But for every day sawing it’s always Knew Concepts or Green Lion. I would have a really difficult time choosing one over the other, it’d be like having to choose a favorite child or something, I love them both. Get a Green Lion, you need one of these in your life! I really hope you got one since you posted this video.
Great show. I always wondered why Knew Concepts was a good idea. Thanks for explaining. I'll look at mine in a new light and forgive the difficulty getting blades positioned in it. I found a need for giant depths for LARGE pieces. They are harder to use because balancing them is difficult, but if the piece is a foot or 18" in diameter, the little ones won't do. I hope you have some of the larger ones hidden in your hoard!
Andrew, Very professional as always in theses videos , I know were all adults here but how did you keep a straight face from 4:04 - 4:35 but there again I did see you hold back laugh at 4:07 I suppose it shows a good sense of humor,we could do with humor in these terrible last few years,
I have purchased several saws and different blades all the way to size 5 to try and figure this out and i just don’t understand this sort of saw. What do you suggest I can use if this doesn’t ever begin to make sense ? Ty I really love metalsmithing. I bought my torches then I suddenly became afraid of the propane so I am having a very difficult time. Ty for your videos
I have been using a simple German made adjustable frame for 20 years, ( three different sizes) I have never adjusted them though, fitted a better handle, new concept would be nice to try although at $200 is out of my price range, Vallorbe Super Pike blades are the best I have ever used
pijnto Cooksonsgold in London stock Green Lion saw. American.wierd looking thing. 68.00. I am retired jeweller, enjoy your films, takes me back. To the bench. Thank you
Good info, some i knew but some i learned from this video. Newer done any precious metals as jewellery but other metal working. Thanks, will be watching more.
I'm from Sydney and just starting out, I'd love to get you a greenlion saw Andrew! How do I go about this? ....Very, veeeeery late to the game, like three years late, I know!😅
Kia ora, Skyler from the channel: 'Change you can make' would like you to choose someone to win the silver-lined New Zealand half crown ring he's just made. Please choose me. It's a stunningly beautiful ring & watching it getting made was amazing. As a New Zealander it would mean a lot to me to wear it. Your channel looks interesting, can't wait to see more.☺
so If a I am cutting a bullion piece of fine silver that is (9/16") 7mm then I need a blade with 2.3 teeth per 7mm? How many saws does one need? I'm working on a multi saw, like one of those frames with the tension clamp, but holds three blades where the side blades will be adjustable and the center blade stationary..
Brilliant info are you doing one next on sawblades themselves and the thickness of silver to be used with, I mostly get 2/0 and the Vallorbe from cooksons is this a good choice?
Hi Andrew! I have one of those Swiss frames and the top is little shaky, is that normal? Also... have you seen the Knew concepts "bird cage" frame? the tension clamp is the same as the others but the frame is quite different.
I have a Green Lion saw. Its pretty, but honestly I find no difference between it and my basic fixed frame I used in college. I had the Knew saw and gave it away. I could not ever get my blades in correctly, they kept twisting. It frustrated me and I just gave up. That was first generation Knew saw so maybe I should try again?
I have problems with my eclips frame (same as yours) holding blades smaller then 4/0. Ive tried filing more groves in the nuts but that metal is harder then my files. Any suggestions?
The green lion saw. Is that the frame that's rustic, rounded C shape, made in the u.s., in small batches, sometimes there's a waiting list? Maybe we can make a little trade.
Awesome channel mate! Skylar from the channel- change you can wear - sent me and wanted me to let you know he thinks your awesome. Oh and he said to just let him know that nofd1977 got that giveaway ring👍
The Swiss frame is far and away the best for beginners because of its' weight and price. 3.5 oz for $15. Precise work with 5/0 blades is much easier with this light frame.
Andrew, the lovely Mr Berry😊 u know iv been a huge fan an learned sooo much from u these past couple of years? Well another TH-camr I follow called Tyler, has a channel too and has did a shout out to u an your channel an is running a competition to get one of us lot to get in touch with u for u to pick the competition winner lol.. This is not a joke. I think he is a fan of your solder work(like us all) 😉 if u pick me to win, I promise to like an comment on all your videos for life an I may even share some.. Thank u Andrew the decision is in your hands tho. His name is Tyler and channel is called "change you can wear".
Jus subscribed to your channel thanks to Skylar . He has a contest wanting you to pick a person to win a ring. Happy Thanksgiving and consider me for the contest
You have another subscriber..... I was told to check out your videos by Skylar change you can wear......And if you would be so kind and let him know Todd Pote ask you to please do this thank you very much Andrew Berry
Bearing in mind that the majority of people are right handed. Why do they always put the nuts, especially wing nuts, on the left where they interfere with fingers and thumb holding down the piece you are cutting.
Hi Andrew. Got encouraged to look at your channel from another channel called change you can wear. He obviously respects your channel as he said if one of his viewers can get you to choose a subscribed viewer and get you to email him a name he'd give them a coin ring he made on his latest vid. Would love if it was me. His site is changeyoucawear.net anyway. Now to browse ya vids. Just a learner myself. Thanks, luke
Awesone channel Andrew you dont know me im new to your channel but another you tuber as im sure u will hear from others who will be subscribing tonyour channel in order he wants u to pick a winner for a ring he is giving away and want you to email him. So when u eventually email him for the person u chose to win his ring and email him. So i wish u luck lol im sure u have a lot of work cut out for u wish u luck. But not so much as to get a twink? Is that too far?
Your lesson coming from your rich experience are invaluable .
Thank you for your very helpful insights! Your "3 teeth to the metal" rule was very helpful indeed!
You make fantastic , definitive videos , and you have saved this learner ,many hours , much frustration and ultimately money , already . Thank you so much .

It IS so much better to use all 6 inches! Much better sawing. Green Lion saws are available for purchase, that's how I got mine, LOVE IT!!
Love the Green Lion, wish I could afford to send you one to try.
Firstly, let me say thank you and secondly, I really like your saw frame guitar at 18:20. Keep it up😂🙌
Great rundown on saws and blades! I'm going to pick up a new non adjustable saw frame. I just never knew how to tension them.
Thank you! I completely forgot how to tension my blade and it was driving my crazy.
Excellent as usual. Please could you do a video on what you really do need to start up. Especially if you have a budget.
Many thanks Helen 🤗
What are you wanting to start up? There's so much to look forward to!!
Flying Chef just looking to see what the basics or necessity tools are really to start silversmithing. 😀

What is stopping you from buying a Green Lion saw tomorrow and trying it out. It's not likely to be lonely with the brethren you've amassed. 👍
Thanks for the great info again!!
So do I need a frame for each blade like you or do you have a problem

What’s a good quality bade in your opinion?

What blades for cattle bone?
Brilliant info are you doing one next on sawblades themselves and the thickness of silver to be used with, I mostly get 2/0 and the Vallorbe from cooksons is this a good choice?
Yes this is a good choice. You don’t want to buy cheap blades
That red funky saw is like the LV of the all saws
More bloopers!!!!
Hi Andrew!
I have one of those Swiss frames and the top is little shaky, is that normal?
Also... have you seen the Knew concepts "bird cage" frame? the tension clamp is the same as the others but the frame is quite different.
Perfect rundown, now I know why my blades always snap

@@flyingcheff Hahahaha. Apparently Andrew doesn't know that.
All that aside, I still prefer trading with people. It's fun and I've ended up with some really cool things.
anybody???? what is the difference between tooth blades and spiral blades when using a saw??? thanks
Jewelers saw blades have been referred to at lest for the last 50 years in the US as aught as in 2/0 = 2 aught 4/0 = 4 aught and so on. Just an FYI.

Awesome channel mate! Skylar from the channel- change you can wear - sent me and wanted me to let you know he thinks your awesome. Oh and he said to just let him know that nofd1977 got that giveaway ring👍

It’s an Eclipse piercing saw frame
I used one of these when I was at school. sadly I hadn't this information and i broke a lot of saw blades until I learned.

Hello sir
Bearing in mind that the majority of people are right handed. Why do they always put the nuts, especially wing nuts, on the left where they interfere with fingers and thumb holding down the piece you are cutting.
Because most of them turn the sawframe upside down to “push” for tensioning the sawblade.

Fixed frame has no adjustment for tension... No thanks.
Hiya, a repeat of an old video, nothing new, a bit of a let down...
