I tumbled upon Pabst during my Miami vacation and filled my luggage with it in order to use up the max allowed weight on my flight back to Europe where I gave it to some family beer experts. They were thankful for my gift and said it was a fine drinkable beer with a pleasant aftertaste and enough gas. Besides they appreciated the 24 oz cans saying this beer lasts long enough to quench their thirst:)
This is definitely my favorite beer. it is my go to beer that I always have on me at home, by the pool, or at the bar. I will drink yuengling if a bar does not have this beer, but I first try for this.
By the way NEWARK has the water. Ballantine, Kruegar, Pabst, Budweiser, Fiegenspan, Hensler to name a few were / are brewed there. Rheingold a NY beer, moved to nearby Orange , NJ and Trommers in Harrison, NJ, same water.
There is a bar in town that sells this beer for $.50 on Monday nights, $2.50 for a pitcher. So awesome. Plus this beer is WAY better than almost every other American Lager.
i was born and raise growing up swiping my father beers and it was either PBR or RedDog.... I don't see RedDog that often anymore... but when i'm hurt for cash and have under 6 bucks in my pocket ill grab a 6er of prb tallboys ..... I don't really do watery beer anymore.. I like most brews that I make, and many craft brews, In the New England area where I live...
Yep, I live in Ohio. It's available in most package stores in Columbus, and available in the rest on special order. Shout out to Blacklick Wine and Spirits on the East Side.
I think I need to do a blind taste test with this and some other macros. People keep telling me that it tastes better, but I think it would blend in amongst other similar adjunct lagers.
Why not? We do all sorts of beers from the best in the world to the worst. I think doing varying qualities of beer helps keep it all in perspective. Drinking a bad beer every now and then makes the good beers seem extra good.
MrWay2green I was pretty stoked to have Yeungling for the first time while in Florida a couple of years ago. It was not good. Narragansett all the way.
I never understood this "hipster" shit, I like PBR cause it's just as affordable as Steel Reserve and Natural Ice, but tastes comparable to the more expensive lagers.
PBR is pretty good if you ask me. It's pretty crisp and for it's price it's got plenty of flavor and drink ability for me personally. I've got to give it a 6 myself, even though the other guys I review with gave it 8s. I just can't give it an 8 myself though.
You can only get it through Superior Beverage Group, which is in Columbus, Cleveland and Mansfield. They are the only ones that sell it. They sell it in 24 pack of bottles for around $20.
@WehrmachtLuftwaffe I agree. People should drink what they like and not worry about what other people like. I only brought up the hipster thing because that is an important part of the resurgence of Pabst Blue Ribbon.
Rolling Rock is a pretty good AAL. It's cheaper than bottled water and doesn't have any off putting taste to it and is quite pleasant and very drinkable for an AAL. If I had the option, I'd choose a Boston Lager over any AAL, but for my money, Rolling Rock is my AAL of choice.
@pizzaman123 You have to remember that when we started the show none of us had any beer experience. Our mission wasn't to promote craft beer. It was to talk about all different beers whether we liked them or not. However, in the course of trying all these beers we've discovered tons of craft beers that we love and our tastes have changed a lot. And, we've turned a lot of fizzy, yellow beer drinkers into craft beer drinkers because they like our laid-back unpretentious approach.
Pabst did an underground marketing campaign with bicycle messengers that helped it become popular at bars that were popular amongst the alt-culture crowd.
My favorite adjunct lager is Grain Belt Premium, PBR is decent. I am thinking of buying some Schlitz Gusto Classic 60's formula. Have you had a chance to try it?
Being from Quebec, craft beer have been popular for a long time. That's what I reach for when I want to savour a beer. But if I am working around the house or going to a gathering, PBR gets picked up 8 times out of 10 over any other macro brewery beers. It's the best tasting cheap beer on the market in my opinion.
haha i wanted to try it out because of all the hipster hype surrounding it. It's honestly a very light tasting beer, and I like that. It's a beer you could drink everyday affordably.
After reading description, before viewing, let me say I really despise the "hipster" tag on PBR. I could say that five other ways. Thanks for the review!
Yeah, I like it. I bought an 18 pack for 11 bucks earlier tonight. Budweiser is 15 bucks for an 18 pack at the same store! (Walmart in FL.) It just hurts to pay that price for an 18 pack when there's another beer on the shelf that I like just as much as the other one.
Personally, I like pouring the beer to get the bigger head. It releases a lot of the gas and leaves you with a better aroma and, of course, feeling less bloated.
My favorite beer
Thnx for the review!! This Miller High Life and Rolliing Rock were my fave macrobrews in the 80s! Have a great 4th of July too!
Thanks. We like your comments.
good beer....
This is the best BBA episode
great review. Host looks hammered.
Ya guessing he wasn't drinking PBR hahha or any other watered down beer
best beer cheap and delicious every day pbr
@CraigKramer No worries. I hope you will continue to watch. We have come a long way in our beer journey, but still have a long way to go.
The comment about his first drink from his dad, the exact thing happened to me. Thanks for reminding me. Blue Ribbon!
That picture is priceless lol. Vintage beer ads are the best.
thanks for the review... excellent show!!!
drank 9 of these last night. woke up feeling fresh.I love it
It drinks well, priced well and the history is there! First beer in a can, red, White and blue label. I like it.
Were they really first Beer in a can ? Thanks.
@brandon0409 I thought that was odd too. That's why I pointed it out.
good review guys.
I Love PBR and its even better on tap, thanks for the review !
That's a good way to put it.
There has definitely been a resurgence of people who appreciate this fine beer.
Its a good beer. Drink it frequently.
It is an awesome beer 🍺
Best cheap beer of all time.
Its getting there.
It's not a time or place beer, it's a "how many quarters can you find in the couch" beer. I say that with super love for PBR.
@brandon0409 Got it. Thanks for the explanation. I would hate for you to miss out on some of the tasty imported beers.
This is definitely my favorite beer. it is my go to beer that I always have on me at home, by the pool, or at the bar. I will drink yuengling if a bar does not have this beer, but I first try for this.
How would you describe it?
By the way NEWARK has the water. Ballantine, Kruegar, Pabst, Budweiser, Fiegenspan, Hensler to name a few were / are brewed there. Rheingold a NY beer, moved to nearby Orange , NJ and Trommers in Harrison, NJ, same water.
If your on budget and like to get a good buzz after work definitely go with this beer.
Hipster shit be damned, its pretty good, and its cheap so...... win.
Great for what it is. I would def. pick this up over Coors, Bud, Molson ect.
There is a bar in town that sells this beer for $.50 on Monday nights, $2.50 for a pitcher. So awesome.
Plus this beer is WAY better than almost every other American Lager.
Great review to style for an AAL, nice!
Love the bucks hat! Also, hanging out in Morrill tower, drinking PBR, watching the basketball tournament. best. day. ever.
How do you think the beer should be poured?
i was born and raise growing up swiping my father beers and it was either PBR or RedDog.... I don't see RedDog that often anymore... but when i'm hurt for cash and have under 6 bucks in my pocket ill grab a 6er of prb tallboys ..... I don't really do watery beer anymore.. I like most brews that I make, and many craft brews, In the New England area where I live...
holy shit is it really that cheap in the states? a 6 pack of beer (regular 350ml cans) here is usually around 16 dollars here in this part of Canada.
I live in new hampshire usa....average 6-pack runs from $5 to $10. I think $5-6 a 6-pack PBR (maybe less), $9-10 craft
@khunopie I like your play on words.
Yep, I live in Ohio. It's available in most package stores in Columbus, and available in the rest on special order. Shout out to Blacklick Wine and Spirits on the East Side.
I like Pabst. For what it is, it deserves a better rating than Bud.
I am a big fan of Pabst Blue Ribbon, I have been drinking it since I was a youngin. When it comes to a cheap and GOOD lager. Pabst is the way to go!
I hate beer snobs. Drink what you want to drink.
I think I need to do a blind taste test with this and some other macros. People keep telling me that it tastes better, but I think it would blend in amongst other similar adjunct lagers.
You are quite the Old Style expert!
How should it have been poured in your opinion?
Why not? We do all sorts of beers from the best in the world to the worst. I think doing varying qualities of beer helps keep it all in perspective. Drinking a bad beer every now and then makes the good beers seem extra good.
Thanks! What are some of your other favorites?
Yuengling kicks its ass.
MrWay2green
I was pretty stoked to have Yeungling for the first time while in Florida a couple of years ago. It was not good.
Narragansett all the way.
It might have been a skunked bottle, unless you had it on draft. They bottle their beers in green bottles for some reason, so they get skunked easily
I never understood this "hipster" shit, I like PBR cause it's just as affordable as Steel Reserve and Natural Ice, but tastes comparable to the more expensive lagers.
I loved sipping beer as a toddler! I think P.B.R. is one of the better beers, as per American-style lager.
Pabst is the best beer when compared to the Big 3's
What about underwater? Is it great underwater?
brewed with water from the Los Angels river.
What kind of beer is it?
@WehrmachtLuftwaffe I agree. People should drink what they like and not worry about what other people like. I only brought up the hipster thing because that is an important part of the resurgence of Pabst Blue Ribbon.
god I miss this show.
@40ozkingcobra Not King Cobra?
What do you drink?
oh yes it is
@SoLiDJinZo Thanks for watching the whole episode!
PBR is not a hipster beer.
@pizzaman123 You have to remember that when we started the show none of us had any beer experience. Our mission wasn't to promote craft beer. A lot of beer drinkers like to see the head of a beer. It's not a good or a bad thing. It's a personal preference thing.
Plus, the price is going up. It's not as cheap as it used to be.
I just bought a 12 pack of PBR for $7.99. Very smooth, very drinkable. I'll take a PBR over Bud, Coors, or Miller any time.
I prefer drinking most beers out of a bottle over a can. A good beer is best in a glass though where you can appreciate the aroma.
Pabst did an underground marketing campaign with bicycle messengers that helped it become popular at bars that were popular amongst the alt-culture crowd.
What do you normally drink?
My favorite adjunct lager is Grain Belt Premium, PBR is decent. I am thinking of buying some Schlitz Gusto Classic 60's formula. Have you had a chance to try it?
@AgileHProductions Union trouble. So, they solved that issue by outsourcing. It's more efficient, anyway.
yum gotta love corn syrup beer
Guy in the middle is spot on
Have you had Yuengling? I think their porter or black n tan are a "good bang for your buck" beer.
By far my favorite adjunct. I haven't tried Fosters, Rolling Rock, Red Stripe etc. mind you, but thus far PBR is my adjunct of choice.
@HeyJoeHaze Yeah. I think it has. It's not the cheapo beer it once was. The hipsters raised the demand for the product.
@257milo Rating by style is definitely one way to go. We don't have enough experience to do that very well.
My favorite beer... FREE BEER!
My favorite cheap beer!
You can't get a 30 rack of PBR in Chicago for 11.99 all day and night.
On a sale sometimes you can find it for 9.99
After reading description, before viewing, let me say I really despise the "hipster" tag on PBR. I could say that five other ways. Thanks for the review!
Could it be said that dude in the middle is a hipster for not wanting to be seen as a hipster? O.o
@wildbilltexas When I'm in Texas I'm drinking Shiner.
I give it a solid 8
IT'S A GOOD CHEAP BEER. BEATS THE HOLY HELL OUT OF BUSH!
I agree with your assessment. However, I did pick up Pabst as a cheap session beer last weekend. Does that make me a hypocrite?
@XtianFreak I need to check that out. Was PBR a big part of it?
Yeah, I like it. I bought an 18 pack for 11 bucks earlier tonight. Budweiser is 15 bucks for an 18 pack at the same store! (Walmart in FL.) It just hurts to pay that price for an 18 pack when there's another beer on the shelf that I like just as much as the other one.
Sounds like a party in a box.
Personally, I like pouring the beer to get the bigger head. It releases a lot of the gas and leaves you with a better aroma and, of course, feeling less bloated.
Closer than Bud Light?
@hctimhtims Just one of many reasons for its awesomeness.
I live in Kalamazoo so I'm partial to Bell's. I also like almost anything from Sam Adams and Heineken. If I'm short on cash I'll drink anything
Gotta say Bud is a lot more drinkable than PBR in my opinion. Only reason to get a PBR is if its cheaper.
@SNQHShow Excellent comment! Keep them coming!
@plainoldstickfight Most of them do if you drink enough.
Pabst Blue Ribbon Is One Of My Fav Beer, Cheap And Tasty, I Buy A 6 Pack 16oz Once A Week!!!!
Of the ones that you mentioned I would probably go with a fosters.
@gez1308 I need to catch a replay of that.
