Great video as always, Vincent! The one other thing that I feel this video should’ve touched on is upscaling. I’m not sure how widely 4K broadcasts have been adopted in the UK, but in the US they’re still nonexistent in most markets. Many local affiliates are still stuck on 720P. NFL/college (American) football broadcasts are a good example as their quality can be all over the board. Flipping between multiple games can make for a jarring experience. There’s a drastic difference between my Sonys and LGs here with the former doing a much better job with this content than the latter. My trusty VT60 also does an admirable job with this content as it matches/gets closer to native resolution.
Just throwing it out there. Thanks again!

    • @Philsophy

Ah... still have my Panasonic VT60 in my living room. Most apps dont work anymore, but the picture still amaze me. Especially the texture and natural skin tones. Can your new Oleds actually deliver the same experience in this regard?

    • @Curly21029
      @Curly21029 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@bambus0404 Yes, I’d say so! However, I’d say if you’re used to the effortless/natural look of a late model, quality plasma you’ll have to take calibration into consideration when purchasing an oled. I have an LG C1 that I use almost exclusively for gaming so accuracy isn’t as important on that display to me, but out of the box it’s miles away from my Sonys. Both my A8H and my A80J (77” - I highly prefer the gloss screen finish) benefitted from calibration, but just some minor tweaking in custom/pro 1/pro 2 got them close enough that I would’ve probably been ok with not performing a full calibration.
So yes, the Sonys have a more natural/plasma-like look by default. The LG more of a garish/smoothed over/LCD-ish look. Unfortunately for the LG, even with native 4K content it looks less sharp/detailed as the Sonys and it becomes especially apparent with sub-4K content. I’ve heard it said that LG has “caught up” to Sony in terms of processing/upscaling but that simply isn’t the case from my experience. LGs are well suited to the gaming niche, but Sonys are far more refined for various use cases.

I plan on buying a new TV in the upcoming weeks and have trouble deiciding even after watching multiple reviews etc. I have a sitting distance of about 2.5m maybe a bit less and planned on either a 77inch LG or 65inch Samsung/Philips/Sony.
I would like to avoid LGs though because of color shift angles being really low, Samsung seems like the best price performance actually but their build quality, bent panels etc scare me away with only a 600€ price difference to the sony right now.
I had the chance to see the 77 inch Philips937 and tried different settings in filmmaker mode to increase brightness but it still performed worse in brightness compared to a 77inch C1 right next to it. Which was kinda weird as you rated it a 4/5 in 6:56.
I also found a panasonic 65lzn1500 for about 1.9k€ but I found not much info on it aside from a few saying it is the same as the lzn2000 which fared pretty good in the blindtest video.
I am in a dilemma and would appreciate any input. We mostly watch at night viewing angles is important and a fairly good brightness would be appreciated. The sony checks almost all boxes but is also too expensive if not for a sales price at maybe black friday or something.
Thank you very much for reading this far, and have a nice day!

When I see these auto dimming issues with OLED, I don't understand that reviewers not mention these things and also that they dim allot when displaying bright scenes. This and because I like bright TV's pushed me to the Samsung qn90a. I have also a very bright room and like to watch soccer and formula 1 during the day. Of course I also am thinking how is OLED looking, but I have to say, I am very happy with my choice. The Black is black and the HDR is amazing! I watched so much reviews before buying. Good luck to all of you who are looking for a new tv. I would consider also the Qn90a or b from this year.

Vince any idea what could be causing a noisy picture on the Sony a80j?
I have all the settings set to your recommendation.
Could it be the source? (Apple TV)
    The receiver?
    The HDMI?
I have the Apple TV going in the receiver, and the eARC going to the eARC port on the TV. HDMI 3 is set to enhanced.
