The Oz Roosevelts in MagnaCut were initially run a bit softer. I DM'd him and told him the merits of running it a little harder, especially on a thin and slicey knife model like the Roosevelt. He immediately said he would up the hardness as soon as he was able to (which was dependent on his equipment at the time). Previously he was outsourcing grinding and Larkins Precision (who does Hinderers and others' blade grinding) would not grind anything over 62 HRC. As soon as he moved to in-house grinding and was able to grind harder blades he upped the hardness to the awesome end result it's at today.
Best knife I ever owned. Bought 3! Recently just won last weeks lotto and got a radial milled one. Fantastic buying experience from Oz. They offered to ship it overnight to Canada at my risk or even send to a proxy if I had one. Truly these folks understand the knife industry and the struggles some of us have to deal with because of location. Even on the secondary market they are worth it. Prices are starting to fall a bit on secondary which is great news. This can be your one and only edc.
Awesome video mc... I gotta say I totally agree the quality coming out of that shop is insane, and it has been an absolute honor to have the opportunity to work for and learn from Dan. He is such a stand up guy!
One of the best looking folding knives on the market today. The only enthusiasts who don’t have the Roosevelt in their grail list are the ones who already have one. Such a sick knife. I saved this video for the evening just so I could give this knife my undivided attention lol.
Ok thats really weird. I’ve been looking your videos before buying every single knife that i own. I decided yesterday to put the trigger on a roosie second hand that had a good price on it and BAM! You’re here right now today with a video on it. CRAZY!!! Thanks btw!
I have an older Rosie (178) before he started making the screws and using Magnacut. Also pre-price increases. It is still among my favorites. An absolutely phenomenal slicer.
Fantastic review. I love how you described the cost of doing this in the US and that it would be that expensive to do it wrong... That's what makes this so good
The good thing about deciding to commit to a Roosevelt becoming my next knife acquisition is I have a whole decade save for one, because that's about how long it will take for the lotto to hit for me
Given the market, the pricing is a bit low if anything. It looks like they’re expanding production capacity so these won’t be as hard to get at some point.
Now I don’t have this knife (I want one though 😢) but, I’m surprised this didn’t make your recent, “The Very Best Pocket Knives Of 2022” video!! Granted, you did say it’ll be in the next “Favorite Knives Of All Time” video, which is much greater praise coming from you. Personally, I feel this company/knife is in the same league as Brown, Shirogorov, CKF, Christensen Knives, Koenig, Sandrin, and the FEW others in that realm. Great vid!!
Upon watching this review, I immediately grabbed my Quiet Carry Drift with knurled titanium scales and am struck by how similar the designs are. Not copies, just very similar vibes and almost identical blade shapes (differences: vanax steel instead of magacut, washers instead of bearings, thumb studs instead of hole, wire clip, internal lock bar relief, knurl pattern). Anyone who can't afford this one (and doesn't care about the midtech, USA build) should check that one out.
I had the opportunity to get my hands on both a week apart from each other and it is uncanny how well they match up. However the edge of the magnacut can take a much keener edge.
@Highwinds EDC I've got no complaints about the Vanax. According to Knife Steel Nerds, Vanax beats Magnacut for both edge retention and corrosion resistance at the expense of toughness, a compromise I'll definitely take for a light duty EDC.
He‘s reviewed tons of US-made knives. I’d even venture to say he’s reviewed nearly every major one currently in production that isn’t ass and many that aren’t, along with variants. There’s only so much he can do when he’s already covered most of the field.
Very Nice ! Would have been a little smoother, without the frame lock 🔒. Liner lock or Button looks and feels better I the hand . Of course it doesn't matter much if we can't get them ? ! ✌️😉👍
I also prefer liner locks, maybe a bolster lock for this one to keep the aesthetic. Very nice looking knife! For this kind of quality and money, which would you recommend more: this or a Herman knife?
The knife is cool. The more I see it the more it grows on me. In my opinion Olamic Cutlery is a more affordable brand. With Olamic you get a lot of customization at an affordable price. And Olamic is more available. I believe that “small batch” is an excuse to charge a high. Certain makers started the trend of making knives in small batches and now everyone does it. The Rosie is a cool knife. I would like to own one right after a Shirogorov F3.
MC! Nice vid. It would be nice to hear more about the double detent ball system, I’ve never seen that before and I’m not sure how it works exactly. Maybe if we see this guy again we could get more on that. Thanks for the content!
I love this design, but I have to wonder why the flex pocket on the frame lock bar is rarely milled on the INSIDE. Why have that darn pocket snagger when it is literally just as easy to mill the other side?
Can't speak for OZ but one reason why makers choose to have it on the outside is it directs any stress from the tang onto the lock bar in a straighter line and thus less likely to fail than if the stress were to be redirected to the outside of the frame where there would be more leverage for the lock bar to flex.
My gut reaction to seeing the hype over this was that it was just the hype train, but then I remembered I used to think that way about a lot of knives I now own/love. Buying it from them direct seems fair, but the secondary prices for it are just crazy.
@metalcomplex what titanium liner locks would you recommend around 5-6 hundred range? All I can think of is the polish herman ones I’ve seen you review. Thanks!
the MKM Anso Goccia is in stock at BHQ right now, that is a dream knife of mine. Reate has some nice ones in the J.A.C.K. series. Olamic has some fukny looking knives, as well as Custom Knife Factory. Thats all I got right now, titanium liner locks are pretty rare. I think a Herman would be your best bet, that's one of my grail knives.
I was composing a rant on cost etc but then you said baseprice of 700. Ok wow thats way below what I thought it was going to be. Personally the design is meh but thats opinion. Build is stellar for price. I'd say if you truly love design and American you should buy it
Eh, QC Drift >> Obviously they're different, but as an EDC, I'd rather have the better looking knife w/ greater grime and corrosion resistant knife + $400 🤷🏽♂️. The high HRC Magnacut is a cool touch though.
I wouldn't buy this knife for one reason and one reason only...and it's the lock bar relief why do knife makers still do that relief cut on the outside instead of the inside to me it's not user friendly, and easily remedied. Do you agree or disagree? I've had way too many instances of the knife hanging up going in or out of pocket which makes it annoying not to mention the extra wear and tear on my jeans. One minor quip is the gimping should extend out to the end of the opening hole. Change these 2 things and the knife would be close to perfection.
@@alvinharp3437 I never really looked at them. A lot of the titanium frame lock fancy steel knives are starting to look all the same to me. You don’t have to agree with me…and I’m not changing my opinion 😊 It’s very cool they make everything in house in the USA, and the Magnacut is heat treated properly. But, I just can’t unsee that off center pivot.
@@alvinharp3437 fyi…not all Hinderers have an off center pivot. And the ones that are off center are much less pronounced than the knife in this video.

Kinda like Grismo knives out of Canada. All in-house production. I got lucky and got there Norsman. Very odd blade shape, but that's part of why I like it. Totally different from anything anyone else is making. I think the detent is too light. Drops like a guillotine but bounces. I like the fast drop but that bounce isn't a bonus.

Best action out of the box for my collection. And feels a lot larger in hand than it actually is. Phenomenal piece.
I have an older Rosie (178) before he started making the screws and using Magnacut. Also pre-price increases. It is still among my favorites. An absolutely phenomenal slicer.
I’ll have one eventually, Love the looks of the Rosie

Love the Rosey. Just a bit above my price point. Went with the poor man’s version… QC Drift!
Id like some file work on the spine above the swedge to choke up and really get into some serious detail work action.

This one and a mini FSD are on the long term list still.
I'd like to hear what you think his profit margin is per knife.
US made and small batches will bring us to 1000$ knives as a standard..... and the lottery system is kind of strange.
Shape reminds me of the Standard you just reviewed, very cool

The American Grismo. Everything made in house. Cool.
Had to look twice, I thought it was the Quiet Carry Drift.
The msrp prices bleaks when you see the 2nd hand market prices. So they are obviously not charging enough 😝
Love the looks of that knife
did u ever get 1??????????????
Lotto and OOS nice knife for sure but Damn ! It should be nice for that price .
Just scored one 💪💪
Someday I'm going to own one!
Didn’t know they were my home state of indiana very cool wish I could afford or have a chance for one
Ah, another knife that I may never own but get to experience via your channel. LOL.

What are you thoughts on the AD-15 or Steel Will Plague doctor?
One was up today for $975. Smoking price.
Beautiful knife, my only visual critique is that I wish the texturing was matched on the pocket clip.
American Lawman lines :)
Really is a beauty
Love this wow

Obsolete.! Liner lock Button Lock ,Axis Lock keeps the lock side clean ,better in And out of pocket .,?
$700 for a knife like that should have been made as an integral.
