As a manual therapist now focusing on healing trauma with polyvagal focus, I thank you for sharing this Gil. So much of what we do as therapists is really holding space for all of this amazingness that God created in human beings and it's so great to geek out on the infrastructure. God bless!
It is crazy fancy in there, right? That complexity is no "accident," there is some mind bending levels of consciousness being expressed. Thank you Shalom, blessings back at you!
As always, you can bring light on a subject. FYI, even Monica Lewinsky is doing a somatic practice that incorporates her vagus nerve. She doesn't expound on it but she was on Kara Swisher's 'Pivot Podcast' -August 23rd, 2022-cue up to 42:49. The subject was post covid mental health issues. The vagus nerve is trending!
Thank you again for your enthusiastic exploration of this complex complex. I look forward to what you "dive into" of this family of nuclei and their contributions to the harmonic orchestra that is life in the body and mind. Cheers!
Thank you so much. This is very helpful.I believe that I have some irritation or inflammation of the vagus nerve and together with my TBI really causes some real issues I have been dealing with . Thank you
Hi gil. I'm enjoying your videos. A question I've been trying to find an answer for is what is the functional differences of the parasympathetic being controlled by the vagal nerve vs the sympathetic being controlled by the pkexii of nerves?
Hey Sean, you might dive into Porges' Polyvagal Theory, it is a very dense read but with some effort it will help you sort that out, I'm working on it myself!
🤔Your diagram reminds me of the electrical wires hanging out of my daughter's ceiling. I was thinking about all of those wires running through the foundations of the house, to the smart meter box in their front porch . This week she had a chandelier and fluorescent light removed and replaced with a singular. Gosh it's a little bit tricky to grasp all of those big words surrounding the Vegas. Grin, I'm still clouded by my daughter's unruly wires..🤣 I Might have to get a nice cup of tea before pressing rewind. 🤔🤣 I've been trying to figure out and understand that jolly vagus nerve in relation to dopamine/ serotonin inhibitors. 1 day the penny will drop. Hopefully today. Argh! *slaps forehead!
Hi Gil, unfortunately I'm still unclear. As are a lot of people on the subject. I've heard dorsal refers to the upper third of the oesophagus, heart and lung fibres and ventral to the internal organs below the diaphragm. But I've also heard from different people that it's the other way round, viceversa. Do you have another video where you go further downstream... I'd love to hear you explain that.
Ah good question Adam...I will have to demonstrate in further videos exactly to where those dorsal and ventral nuclei send their fibers, in order to clarify which "downstream" fibers could also be referenced as dorsal and ventral, always with respect to those nuclei introduced here. I did do a vid on Dorsal and Ventral Vagus th-cam.com/video/Vu9sM7KPUMw/w-d-xo.html that starts the conversation. I have been tracking the vagus in situ in a cadaver for the past several months and have it mapped out about 95% at the gross level, I look forward to sharing more on this going forward!
@@somanaut Hi Gil, thanks for your reply, great to hear from you in person! So much is spoken about polyvagal theory these days. But mostly in terms of a user guide to the human nervous system, in that respect it is a really practical working model of the different modes or places that we go to. It serves as a map to navigate the turbulent waters of our emotions and find safe haven in the ventral vagus state. But the anatomy itself I find a bit fuzzy, as well as how it actually goes about engaging the different operating modes. To be honest I haven't read Dr. Porges, just seen him on video, so the answers I seek may well be hidden in his extensive works. I'd love to hear your take on it though and get the conversation going... I think others would benefit from getting it out there!
so cervical injuries do affect vagus function, can you spot dysfunctions as this, the rehab knnowledge as most medical knowledge is appaling! roger sent me
Hi Wayne, gotta love Roger right??! Cervical injuries can definitely affect vagus functions, the nucleus ambiguous sends many special efferent nerve fibers with voluntary motor supply to the throat area, more on this in future videos!
@somanaut Roger, yes. so the plan is to restore natural curve in the neck, and in crease blood flow to spine in general, that' from dr. john Bergman d.c. who diagnosed me... he's on y/t... don Juan Matus said ''70 percent of health issues can be resolved by not shallow breathing'' I read Castaneda's books.. Don Juan implied ongoing genetic tampering over eons...where all our higher human attributes have been de-integrated and placed ''out-o-reach''... that he ''has small hope for the human race''. I was hearing your interviews, on your site. Also our physical right side bigger' than left...that alone unbalances the body. 1/2 of mitochondria are deformed. Lived in FL 6 years. Gator country.

Great job Gil. These fibers are SO TRICKY to sort out. I love how you've described them here.
Thanks Jill, yes like untangling a ball of yarn...just gotta keep at it! More coming!
You’re so sweet this is my first time not making the video 2x 😭😭 great way of teaching 🙏🏻

Haha yes that's it Catherine, "The vagus nerve is trending!"
Oh those Vagus nerves-so full of rich info. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Yah complicated buggers, it'll take me 20 videos to explain it haha :)

I am still learning, this stuff takes a bit of work to share on but definitely stretches me!
So helpful, Gil. I'm digging into to this particular structure right now for self learning and to share.
Yay! It's a deep world, digging definitely is required!

I think the clearer picture we form, the easier it is to shower good energy and blessings on what ails us, best wishes on sorting that out Patriciaa!
Wonderful , can you pls add more photos and short video clips to the upload, thank you very much , much appreciated
Gotta get my editing cap back on!
You’re wonderful and so knowledgeable
Aww shucks, thanks for watching Laura :)

Thank you for this video!
You're welcome Christine, thanks for watching!
Thanks
You're most welcome! Sweet emos!

Haha I'm with you Ral, it took some work to sort out that vocabulary myself, there are many variations on the way the nuclei are described!
