The Sun Hive (Haengekorb)

  • The Sun Hive/Haengekorb outlines the outer, invisible "skin" of the "Bien", the wholeness and single entity of the bee. It reveals the innate round shape of the "Bien". It's true nature becomes palpable, through the gestalt and it's position in space. The Haengekorb shows, how everything within the colony is round. The shape of it speaks with a pre-verbal-language. And the shape can share the living processes within. All together a "flower garden" for the eye and the heart. More info at www.gaiabees.com

    You claim that honey bees have been turned into "Honey machines" but is that really true? I have around forty langstroth hives that do amazing work, they all share the same yard and produce, on average, three barrels of honey per harvest which i sell to the local peanut butter place for a lot of money. I have heard people claiming that my bees should be free, that I should tear apart the Langstroths and let the bees find a nice tree somewhere, which is ridiculous. There are any number of predators that would love to attack a wild honey bee hive, where as a hive under a beekeepers watch can be guarded from predators. I also only take what honey I need to keep the business afloat, the winters get cold here, and the bees need all they can get. Please do not judge those who have different views than you do on the matter, all of us keep bees in our own way, and just because we don't want to coat a straw hive in cow crap does not mean that we care any less than you do about the bees.

      Johanna Payton Well said man...I to keep bees naturally and the old fashioned way...the bees get the bulk of their spoils and I take what's left over...keeping bees is what a beekeeper does, a honey robber keeps bees for honey...thanks for your kind hearted response!!!

    • @rickdees251
      @rickdees251 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@billiamc1969 NOTHING about bee keeping is natural! Within nature bees do fine without any helping hand from humans. All bee keepers do so for the honey they will steal. What do you call a rancher, a meat robber? What do you someone who grows tomatoes, a fruit or vegetable robber? Are antibiotics an agent of genocide? You comment, not you, is idiotic. BTW SPOILS has nothing to do with how you use it: spoils = 1. goods stolen or taken forcibly from a person or place.
      Your just stealing the fruits of the bee's labor and claiming your not is you just lying to your self righteous self. Your are a hypocrite if your doing what you condemn others doing to a greater yet does not destroy the colony. Get off your delusional high horse.

      @jacobklassen113 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      But there is still the problem of beekeepers supporting colonies that would never make it in the wild because of all the babying and these weak bees start mating and polluting "wild" honey bees.
      If i keep bees i would quickly eliminate weak pathetic colonies thats what mother nature does all day everyday

    I meant that this hive is an offering to the bees, in support of their health through a close to natural nest environment, which is a tonic of health but it does provide us with a small amount of honey. The focus shifted to health, away from making bees into a honey machine ...

    one has to know what one can do at any specific time, and one has to know the bees and be in communication with them - then another way of relationship is possible. I would like to show this gentle side of bees, which require of the apiculturist another set of inner tools for being with bees. There are multiple steps, and maybe not all of them are visible in the video. Thank you for watching. Michael

    Hi guys
    Not sure If you guys still see the comments
    I am wondering do you have a design plan available and to build one of these? also do/can you harvest any honey from the hive, without destroying the whole hive? and one last question, if you can/do, how much is enough to take from this design? 500grams? 1 kg? etc . At the moment I have a typical langstroth hive which I only take excess honey from , though it does give me a lot, I would prefer the bees to live in a more natural setting for them

    Hello, I am impressed with this video, it is wonderful to see these bees so happy!. I would like to know if this Sun Hive method works for meliponas bees because, I like the shape, the material, the functionality of the hive. I live in Rio Branco, Brazil (northern zone) and I would like to have meliponas bees (Tetragonisca angustula) but I would like to prove wich hive is the best for them, if the classic vertical wood box , the clay pot hive or this one The sun hive. Thank you very much for your videos and your love for bees.

    this hive is there rather for "harvesting health" than honey :). The individual frames can be moved, and the queen sometimes shows herself in her way ....

    Hi Jeff, thank you for your comment. Where in the southern hemisphere are you? The thing about veils is that they have the tendency to put a veil over our eyes - in a sense that we can become blind for the qualities of the creature in front of us. The veil does not promote intimate communication with our environment, and it often difficult to get feedback on our actions: One may enter the most sensitive area in the hive, and yet with the veil we are blind for any kind of trespassing ...

    That is AWESOME!!! I like those arch bars you are using almost like a top bar hive in a way but the bars are arch shaped rather than straight.
    Keep up the good work!!
    As a beekeeper myself I enjoy your vids very much my favorite of your hives is the golden hive that has the giant frames.

    I've wanted to make one for years, but I can no longer find The Sun Hive book by Günther Mancke. That is, I can find it, but only in French, and that's not one of my languages. Does anyone know where I can pick up a copy in English?

    While this is a good system, I think disrespecting and upsetting the bees to show the public the inside of this hive is very unfortunate. It's possible to show one without bees. They were obviously upset that you were dismantling their home. Hopefully you are not stealing their honey or wax.

      Might be me but I don't think the bees cared. They seemed pretty chilled, and more comfortable with the guy than with most keepers.

      Beekeeper’s do this regularly. It dies but harm the bees at all.
