  • Jeremy Wood, a well-known author on Welsh Patagonia, talks about the Welsh in Patagonia today, and the reason he is continually surprised by the history and landscape - surprises that range from the largest animals ever to have walked the earth to hidden canyons and new wine sensations.
Jeremy lives in Esquel, and was the local fixer for the 2015 BBC documentary presented by Huw Edwards, which celebrated 150 years since the arrival of the first Welsh settlers.

I am confused, is it Welsh Patagonia? or Welsh-speaking Patagonia?

Well, when the first settlers arrived in Patagonia in 1865, they were the first permanent residents in the area between the 42 and 46 parallels, which became the Argentine province of Chubut. So, I suppose that, at that time, you could probably quite accurately call it both Welsh Patagonia and Welsh-speaking Patagonia.

@@jeremybernardwood Well, I am afraid I can't as the political implications are huge.
