I have 3 adult cats and 5 lidded fish tanks....at one time I had a cat (Kichi) that was slender and very alert and she would sit on the fish tank lid. But she had passed away and my current cats mostly ignore the fish tanks. Only one sat on a fish tank but I discouraged him (Duke). Young kittens are another matter, they may try things and watch it if you have lidless tanks. I wish you luck.

We built a few lids out of heavy wood for the tanks, just in case the cats got any bright ideas about jumping on them or trying to lift them up. But so far we've not had a problem. One of the kittens got to see the koi pond and the fish seemed to scare him. (Many of the koi are bigger than he is!) However, they will not be allowed in that room on a regular basis.
