Absolutely wonderful teaching, thank you very much!
I will search out Dr Kruger and dig deeper. These are questions which have perplexed for ages and the answers are there in scripture.
Thanks too, to the interviewer, you asked some great questions and I will look out for your book, too.

This guy is awesome! One thing he left out, and probably because he didn't have the time, but Hebrews is riddled with verses and Concepts from the Old Testament. In fact, it is essentially an Old Testament book with commentary from a new testament perspective. It is very valid from that point of view.

      Friend, I don't know your situation or the circumstances you are dealing with, but if you are a follower of The Lord, Jesus Christ -- having turned from deciding your own goals and plans for your life, and instead trusted in Christ Jesus to save you from your own evil ways and teach you His good ways -- then there is a promise in Scripture for you, and every believer;
_"God shall supply all your needs, in accord with His riches in glory in Christ Jesus"_
      - Philippians 4:19
Please note, this does not mean everything you 'want', but instead, everything you 'need' to be a true disciple of your Lord.
Now it's important to look at the lives of the first disciples of Christ Jesus, and especially the 12 who became His apostles; and they did not have lives full of luxury and good food and money. Instead they had very difficult lives, suffering many hard times and eventually being murdered for their trust in Jesus.
Similarly, the Lord Jesus himself had a very difficult life, his step-father Joseph likely died when Christ was still a young man, his brothers and even his mother didn't believe that He was right to go around teaching Israel about The Kingdom of God; he was accused of being a blasphemer and a devil-worshipper by the religious leaders of Israel, and even His disciples argued with Him, then even ran away from Him when Christ was captured and then crucified.
So when we talk about being a true follower of The Lord, we have to remember that anyone who commits themselves to the discipline of following His ways, will walk a similar path to that which the Lord Jesus walked: picking up a cross of their own, and following Him in a death march as their Sin is destroyed by God.
And please remember the words of the Lord, that anyone who is not committed to following Him in this way, is not worthy of Him: and anyone who is not sharing in the sufferings of Christ -- being disciplined by their hard circumstances, by God -- is not a true son of God; because God disciplines those whom He loves.
Now if you believe you are a follower of Jesus according to the principles I have mentioned, and can see that God is using the difficult circumstances you are dealing with to sanctify you, and conform you to the image of His Son -- making you like Jesus, humble and patient and enduring all things -- then you can trust the promise of Philippians that God will give you everything you need, from the treasure house that _is_ Christ Jesus; empowering you to stay loyal and persevere, even if you are poor and betrayed and suffer all manner of evil things from the hands of men.
But if you believe that you are entitled to a happy, healthy and prosperous life because you took the name of Christian for yourself, then you have taken the name of Christ in vain, and you don't actually belong to Him yet -- so you need to turn from that wicked self-deception, and turn to look at the life of Christ and His early disciples to see what it really means to be a real Christian. And after looking at this truth, then place your trust in Him to help you believe in His saving power, and His ability to give you the strength to endure the hardships of this short time here on Earth.
And if anyone tells you that God wants you to be happy and rich and healthy and live in luxury in this life, they are a deceiver and not a child of God; because throughout the Bible we see God employ very hard and horrible circumstances to discipline His people, washing out their sinful desires so that they learn to love Him more than anything else, as pure and clean children of The Father.
Again, I don't know your circumstances so this is something I pray for you, and will continue to pray that you receive from His hand: The ability to trust in Christ Jesus no matter how difficult your life is, so that when you finally pass from this short life into eternal glory with your Lord, you will hear "Well done, good and faithful servant: you have been faithful with little, so I will put you in charge of many riches to be faithful with for Eternity."
And if I have totally misunderstood your situation, then I am sorry, but I will still continue to pray that God gives you everything you need, just as He has _promised._
      ~

Here’s the thing, what are you trusting in for your salvation? Is it your baptism, Good works, church membership? Or Jesus Christ ?
The Bible teaches that we are saved by “grace through faith and not by works”(Ephesians 2:8-9).If you believe that you need to do something in order to get salvation then you are trusting in what you do. You can say it’s grace, but if you’re doing something to get saved then it is works.(Romans 11:6).
God sent Jesus to die in our place to pay for our sins (1 John 2:2). Jesus then rose from the dead to give us new life (John 11:25-26). That is what saves us. It is the Person and the Work of Jesus Christ which makes us right with God. Our sins separate us from God (Isaiah 59:1-2); therefore, they must be paid for (Hebrews 2:17)and we must be born again(John 3:3). That is what Jesus’ death and resurrection accomplishes.
The work of Christ is Imputed to us by God’s grace through repentance and faith (Roman’s 3:21-26; John 3:16; Acts 20:21). Nothing we can do can contribute in any way to our salvation. It is a free gift that is being given to us and all we can do is humbly receive it by trusting in the Person and Work of Jesus Christ.(1 Corinthians 15:1-5; Acts 16:31).
Finally, we are either trusting in Christ or we are not(John 14:6). There is no faith in Christ plus our works equals salvation. Partially trusting in works (baptism, charitable giving, other sacraments) means not trusting in Christ. If you are adding works to the gospel, then you are lost (Galatians5:4) and on your way to hell. You are believing another gospel (Galatians 1:8-9). I emplore you to repent of this false gospel and your sins and receive the free gift of salvation that is only found in Jesus and His death for our sins and His resurrection. (Romans 4:25). Remember the Pharisee and the tax collector (Luke 18:9-14).
I’m not writing this to win an argument. I’m writing this in love. I’m a beggar who was given food and I’m showing you where to get it.

@@saywhat8476 The 500 year old system of Protestantism with its pillar dogma of sola scriptura has NEVER given a satisfying answer to this question and never will and never can. The late R.C. Sproul gave the most illogical statement ever heard trying to answer (justify ?) this question.....”The Bible is a fallible list of infallible books.” How can the result be greater than the source? Protestantism is illogical and anti-historical and antiChristian and antiBiblical. Causing nothing but confusion and division in Jesus’s ONE Body for 500 years with no end in sight. They just make it up as they go along it seems. What confidence can they have in Scripture AT ALL if they agree with Sproul? Having many canons until the canon was settled actually shows us that its not as easy you want to make it sound.
Yes the books had authority from the beginning, however the question is, how did they know which books had authority and which ones had none? That is the question you avoided to answer.

Shakespeare's Folio was in contention for years. But when all of his plays were assembled, the text of the plays clearly bore his signature style.
Likewise, the canonical books revealed themselves to be inspired and authentic by their content.

Erhman would have no argument if we were to stick with the majority text. 26:00 Reformers knew about these other text that did not include verses John 7:53-8:11 and the ending of Mark 16 and rejected the notion that they were not a part of the original text. John Calvin and John Gill rejected these other texts in their commentaries. The fact that scholars today are rejecting the TR for these other MSS and calling them earlier and more reliable is baffling at best and looks more like intended corruption at worse on behalf of haters of God's word. We cannot allow Unbelievers to publish new "bibles" based off a "new variant" so as to eventually lead believers away from God's Truth.

he describes a giant jesus leaving the tomb followed by the giant talking cross in a way that he's trying to show how ridiculous it is, but there are many things canonically in the bible that are just as ridiculous, or even more so. so I don't think him saying "look how wacky this gospel was" is really a good argument for why it isn't canonical.

@@jessebryant9233 The Catholic Church decided which books would be included in The Hoy Bible and created the book itself. Literally.
If you read The Early Church Fathers (the writings of the primitive Church, the Disciples of The Apostles), you'd get the full Christian historical narrative of how the Bible would come to be. 🙂
No "bible" existed before The Catholic Church produced it in the 4th Century. It's the oldest Bible in existence and has been proved to date back 1,700 years.
All other denominational bibles are based on our Bible. The christian churches that came 1600 years after the Roman Church (see the "Book of Romans" in scripture) just took out the parts that talked about Catholic teachings so they could justify creating their own man-based churches that held fealty to men & countries (aka Lutheranism, King James "version" bible, Church of England, etc...).
Of course, I'm just stating objective facts here. These can be corroborated by learning historical Christianity (not religious dogma or personal spiritual beliefs, but from academic sources).

Yeah, never got a notice on this one... But no, the Catholic Church did not "decide" the canon, the canon was "recognized"... And "the Church" included books known to contain historical and scientific errors because those books supported some of the pagan notions that slipped into the Catholic teachings early on... And by definition, you can't have an official "bible" until there is a "bible"-a canon... And took out which parts? Can you be more specific? ... Objective facts? I don't think so... Or, how about just cutting to the chase and answering the most important question: What is the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to the Roman Catholic Church?

The ending of Mark is mentioned by Polycarp as being written by Mark. I do not believe the Egyptian manuscripts are corrupt, but nearly every Greek manuscript agrees that the ending of mark was written by Mark.
He is making his assumption based on "lack of evidence". The problem with this is, that is the worst form of evidence.

"How Did We Get the Bible?"
Kind Sirs...that is one of my best loved questions...For 69 yrs of my "Born Again" life; I was taught and I believed it; that "God" inspired ALL writers to created a book called the "Bible". And it was "Inerrant and Infallible!". Thus, I believed that all of those 69 yrs.
However in my 75 yr I finally got on my knees; and cried out to Jesus (who IS God); to give me "Wisdom, Understanding and the Truth. Amen. I did this because I realized (and it was already there) that there are over 3,000 "Denominations, Doctrines and Dogmas" all over the world.
Worse: Their thesis' were all different. And they all said, "We are right and YOU are wrong! And WE get ours from the Bible!" Get this! I could not deal with that. And that is why I prayed as I did...
So today (I'm 90, next Tuesday); I do NOT believe ANY bible is "innerant Infallible". For ALL of them have enumerable "errors, contradictions, adds and changes, etc". AND...that is why the differences; all over the world. Sad and silly. May Jesus have mercy on us; for letting that happen...
Now, I said all the above, to say this...NO one can discern the "errors", etc; from the "truths"; UNLESS they pray to Jesus ONLY; to give them "wisdom, understanding* and the truth". AMEN!
Could I be wrong? ABSOLUTELY YES!, But all others could be wrong Also...
...In any case kind Sirs and Brethren, Please Pray OFTEN and Praise Jesus OFTEN; for He is the ONLY true "God Almighty"; there will ever have been. And may Jesus bless you and yours always. AMEN!
    * To understand "How we got the bible"; I would strongly suggest you check out the following. And watch it all. For it is very long. But it has things most Christians could not fathom; but we do NEED it. And it WILL help you to learn; exactly "how" we got our bibles.

"by middle of 2nd c we have 22 of the 27 books"
True. This is a testament to Sacred Tradition at work. Yet this also raises questions not answered in the interview.
    - WHO determined the full 27 book canon ?
    - WHAT else did they believe and profess ?
    - WHY was the 27 book NT canon put together ?
    - WHERE did they meet to decide this 27 book canon?
    - WHEN did they do so ?
    - HOW - by what criteria did they use to determine what was and was not these full 27 books?
    - “the authority is not from the Church it is from God, that is a very important distinction”.
It's not either or but both. God works his agency through men, through his Church. The Holy Spirit both worked through the human writers AND worked through the Church to determine which writings were canon - and which were not. Keep in mind :
    - The Church is the Pillar of Truth
    - The Church is the Bulwark of Truth
    - The Church is where the manifold wisdom of God is made known.
    - Christ PROMISED to lead His Church to ALL Truth.
And ... one must ask ... when this Church decided on the 27 book NT canon for ALL time, just HOW did it error - and error GREATLY in saying the Old Testament canon was 46 books?
Just HOW does the Holy Spirit work, consistently or inconsistently?
Did Jesus break his promise, to lead his Church to ALL Truth or was he really saying that he would do his best ... but his Church would error on doctrine - and for a long time - for 1,100 years until Catholic men in Central Europe corrected those men much earlier on the OT canon?

He wanted us to trust man? 1) he wanted men to preserve the first scriptures and stories? 2) then have men copy these scriptures? 3) he trusted men to translate these scriptures?. 4) he let men pick what goes into the Bible…300 years later, roughly.

Concurrently, I don't WANT to say 'secondarily', The Holy Spirit Enlivens the Word of God according to the Father's Will. So that, many people will not access a Living element in their reading because their souls remain dead in sin. For them, the reading will constantly be in combat with a stream of contentious thoughts or preconceived ideas about the content.

There is only one true Church of Christ which He gave us! And that Church gave us the Bible. Yes, those scriptures find their authority in God (not the Church, per se) but if it were not for the Church's effort to compile a singular canon over the decades/centuries, then where would that have left Christians to understand and know the teachings of Christ? The universal Church was IMPERATIVE to the establishment of the Christian religion and you can't simply whitewash history and diminish the Church's role by saying "Scripture has authority from God, not from the Church."
A final thought for any anti-Catholics reading this...
"And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church,* and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it." (Mt 16:18)
"But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come." (Jn 16:13)
If you believe those statements (just to pick two), then how could the Catholic Church not be the true Church of Christ? If, from the beginning, it was always guided by the Spirit and acting under apostolic leadership that chosen by Christ, Himself, then where and when could it have gone astray? The truth is, it is the protestant believers who have veered of course and that is because all those churches are the result sinful men asserting prideful authority over that of Christ's Church.
Those "traditions" of lutherans, baptists, anglicans, etc. are not only rooted in arrogance but they also only date back about 500 years ago and they overlook many centuries of beautiful, profound, and mystical theology that was established by the Catholic Church during the earlier 1500 years.
Fast forward from the 16th century to today and we see that many "denominations" have actually drifted very far from where the original reformers stood (for example, Martin Luther believed in the Eucharist!!!) which, in my view, goes to show just how little creditability these lesser institutions possess, especially on the grounds of interpreting scripture and asserting claims of authority.

You got your Bible from Catholics. The 1611 King James Version of the Bible contained the Apocrypha a.k.a. Deuterocanonical books within the Catholic and Orthodox Bibles. The entire canon of Scripture in both Old and New Testaments was established in 382 A.D. in the Council of Rome. Protestants removed the Apocrypha from their Bibles in 1885. The people who chose books in the Bible were the Bishops of the Church, the Catholic Church. These people are being intellectually dishonest by refusing to say Catholic. The Septuagint Old Testament Scriptures were already established in 283 B.C.which were the Scriptures used by the Apostles. When Jesus said in the Gospels "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" i.e. the 'golden rule' was inspired from the book of Tobit one of the Apocrypha books.
