      That first big ling that they gaffed wasn’t the same fish they released in the next clip. They one they released was quite a bit smaller and had different markings on it.

    Those yelloweye rock fish live to 150 years old. Those fish you kept were around 60-70 years old.

      The pelagics grow so slow and that’s why they are so susceptible to over fishing. Problem plagues all rock fish.

    I have land between Ketchikan and Wrangell, I have a boat, just need to finish building my cabin (on vacations) so I can submit my retirement pack to the Department of Defense….. I caught a monster halibut last time I was up there; would love to get a ling next time.

    Puget Sound has them 50-60lbs but you can’t keep them. They have a slot limit or no retention period and they get huge out there

    Hey. I’m new to Washington and I live in Tacoma. I’m have a boat and am trying to get into salmon this season. Let me know if I can go out with you guys sometime to learn all the setups.

      If you haven’t gone to all the local fishing stores, do so. Be easy to make fishing knowledgeable friends if you have a boat.
