I want to share with you my adventures and what is it like to have a Maltese dog in your family 🐶

Nice list. But, I never used pee pads in my dog's carrier, choosing instead to use diapers, before I knew that they wouldn't go during the flight. I also always give mine food and water during the flight, if they want any. One item to add to your list would be to introduce your dog to the carrier at least a few days before the flight so they will do better spending a long time in it, and, if you can, put one of their towels in the bottom so the carrier has a familiar smell to it.

Really great tips. You thought of everything to make Xanti comfortable. Two things I can add.
1) During or after takeoff you may want to give a treat to reduce the pressure in his ears from takeoff. The chewing will reduce this. This is why passengers chew gum around takeoff.
2) Have a “ Titer test” done before vaccination. The test will measure the dogs antibodies which will determine whether he needs a vaccination. He may have enough antibodies and not need a vaccine. Your veterinarian can then issue a certificate for the airline.

Nice video but you missed the most important - none of the cheap airlines such as Wizzair, Ryanair will allow you to bring the pet. In Europe pet friendly airlines are the ones which are exspensive

Good to know. If you have any insights on traveling longer distances by air with a puppy, please share them. I am in America and would like to travel to Europe, but not without my pet. I know I would have to thoroughly check w/airlines and countries, would not want to deal with pet quarantines. I am wondering how it is with 12-15 hours flights with a pet and their bathroom needs.
Hii, actually from US to EU it is quite simple. Just have all your documents ready. (Maybe you will need an extra vet check and document) Many major European airlines allow pets in cabin. And for nthe flight, as mentioned, keep the water/food intake at minimum before and during the flight. If possible try to choose a short route ( NY to Lisbon or Madrid for example ) so that you are not bin the plane for a long time 🐶😊

What if your traveling with a bigger dog? Will airlines allow larger dogs on board as long as they’re on a leash?

I traveled with my Boxer ( in the hold ) last year - no problems for her ( and she is a bit of a scardy cat lol )

Hello. I have a maltese dog around 5 months old. We are thinking to do a trip to Italy late July (he will be almost 7 months old then). Its 7 days trip but the programm has a lot of movements from one place to the other and journeys with trains and even a boat. Firstly i'm a bit worried if the hotels in Italy will accept my maltese. But mostly it worries me the fact that he will get tired with this program. If we do travel with the car for a lot of hour, it gets dizzy and it vomits, sometimes more than once. Thats why i'm worried maybe this trip might put his health in danger (it has done all the vacinnes and we are gonna get a passport as well.).
Whats your advice for it? Can you help me?

Hii, we did not do any particular training, Xanti is calm by nature. It may have something to do with the environment, which he feels is safe.

which airline to Portugal please /we have taken a Bichon from uk to portugal but it had to go in a cage in the hold he travelled quite well ,but it was too long apart from us,tfrom uk to Faro ,what airline and airport please ,be good to know thank you
Hi Margaret, we have good experience with TAP on the way to Lisbon, but in general they do transport pets in cabin. However the issue with UK is that it is forbidden by some law to transport pets back to UK in cabin. 😭 (It's one of the reason we have not been to UK with Xanti and Yumi) So basically you can fly your bichon to Portugal in cabin and back to UK in hold. Also your bichon along with the bag must not have more than 8kg to be allowed in cabin 😊 Hope this helps a bit on your next travels 🥰

I don't know if you would be able to answer this but.....I also have a small dog (pom/yorkie mix) and I would love to take them with me when I travel but there a very very veryyyyyyyyyyyyy active dog that loves to go on multiple hour long walks a day....do you have any tips that would possibly help keep him calm for a long flight of having to sit still/in an enclosed space....thx :)
Hii, well it is always about choosing the right time of the day (evening/ night flight) and preparing for it. So go for a long walk just before the flight, but do not feed or give just small amount of water. And then during flight give it something new exiting to play with. Just as we mention. You will be fine 🐶🥳 Enjoy the travels 🥳

Hi Teresa, where are you flying from and what breed is your doggo? 😊 Most major airlines in Europe allow dogs up to 6-8kg in the cabin.

In that case it should be fine as far as we know. Aeroméxico for instance allows pets in cabin. 🐶 Wish you good travels 😊

How much is the cost of the dog passport
The passport is issued for free (or maybe a small charge) by your veterinarian. We received it directly from the breeder when we got Xanti, since there are all the vaccination stamps in it.

Well we actually had some tissued and pee pad with us too. So we would just clean it, no big deal. 😊 But the important thing is the timing and preparation really, so that it never happens 😊
