You should invest in a spudger, they are designed for prying things open. Much better than a screwdriver. I got mine last year and I've never stopped using it. Great vid btw.

I will give that a try! I managed to retrieve my WEEE-wasted bulbs; the box is a bit soggy but I doubt any rain got in to the gubbins within. Sadly I don't have a machinist's vice like you or Big Clive, but I think if you are careful a bench or jeweller's vice will do the job.

Protip: Use your side cutter to remove the little metal nub on the tip of the e27. That way the cable becomes loose and you don't have to fiddle around like that.

Nice, couldn’t find a pic of whats inside. Been getting into scraping to reuse for art n builds. Thanks for feeding my curiosity.

I've been grabbing the inductors recently - or at least the ferrite rings from them.

I think one of the "resistors" are an inductor as well, testing the parts soon!

what components on the board allow it power up and give it light? can you elaborate on these? can you replace a electronic component or is it worth it?

Use a soldering iron and de-solder pump. No need to apply force and snipping elements from the pcb. That's bad because you might break the legs of the capacitor or other elements you wanna salvage.

Great but I do not have that tool to apply pressure.. Need to think and do it in my own way

That Tube you are "safely " discarding is illegal to put in the garbage , in my home town , and probably yours .
When the glass is broken , mercury vapor is released. Best broken in an enclosed space .

"throw away" means you aren't going to re-use it, I brought it to my household hazard waste spot - I am not responsible for what others do with theirs.

I usually try to make things as simple as possible, but sometimes you have to get messy :)
