So I wore my "Feel Good Bowl Good" shirt for the first time in league yesterday and shot my first ever 600 series in a 3 game league..!
Loving the info on this. I am trying to get into bowling more than I am and have been looking at what the right ball might be for my first "pro" ball. This has helped to narrow things down.

I think a cool series you could do with league is start off with only beginner or spare balls in your bag, all drilled different and set a goal score with them and upgrade a ball per episode. Like a rags to riches

I like to give my grape surge a good sniff before throwing it. I recently gave it a heavy polish and downgraded it from strike ball to ball meant to take down the 10 pin

Dude, that's not trash, that'd crazy good, progressing that much in 4 months is bonkers. I'm getting into it myself but my highest game is 155 and I'm inconsistent
I have learned so much from watching Darren Tangs videos this person deserves a million followers he is an incredible Pro bowler who is down to earth and is an amazing person in my opinion.
I have both balls. The tropical surge is my old ball which I now use as a spare ball, and the electrify ball is my strike/normal ball:) I throw 2 handed and love the balls

The tropical surge is only like $50 less than my 3 strike balls that hook like 2 times as much and have crazy continuation. Radical Trailblazer Solid, Radical Incognito Pearl, and a Sneak Attack Hybrid
Two questions: Changing thumbs, do the thumb slugs give options to have it more away and out or is it just a smaller/ larger option? Ball flares when you are bowling in tournaments what are you looking for? 7, 8 9 or 5 or 6 depending on shot conditions.

I'm up in the PNW too and wanted to challenge him as well. But I'm still a "fresh" bowler of about 16 months after a 25 year break. My Conditions for Darren were he has to bowl LEFTY in either 1 or 2 hand form.

Medium or medium-high end balls are so good if you are learning how to bowl better since they can do the work for you down lane When is Lance getting his own new ball I want to see that zen soul in his hand ball will be a nut for him
Some times, you just need a ball that isn't going to over hook on dry lanes. "Beginner balls" are perfect for that. Hustle, Surge etc.
This week at league I missed the 7 pin 4 times after not missing one for over a month. I get it Lance, don't let it get in your head though!

Question I want to start bowling as a hobby but I don’t know if it’s worth buying my own stuff… is a beginner ball worth buying or should I just go to a more expensive option
hey darren, i love your vids and I have a question about my bowling skills. i seem to get the hook properly but I cant get enough power to make sure it goes to the 135 pins, as it usually just curves to the 7pin :( it would be amazing if u would give me some tips :D
Change hand position on ball, speed up approach, increase swing height, or use a less agressive ball. Before all this make sure you lanes arent just dry. Also stand more left of the headpin. Try out all of these and see what works from lane to lane.
Definitely increase swing height. Move the ball a bit further away from your chest as you hold it and your natural swing arc will get you a bit more swing going back and a bit more power going forward

Tbh with me I end up buying cheaper bowling balls which could be considered beginner balls, but I only get those cause I play 2 finger 1 hand release and the rev rate is so high that anytime I use anything else everything hooks to the point where for me to hook less I feel like I'm releasing the ball straight

For someone that started bowling with the Tropical Surge and liked it, but wants to upgrade, what would you suggest? I've been looking at the higher end Storm balls, but have no idea what to go for.
Talk to your pro shop if you can. Without knowing your style recommending a ball can be a shot in the dark. Talking to the person that will also be drilling it can be very helpful.

I bowl with a Motiv Freestyle Rush, I've got good motion and control now, but I can't get comfortable with the ball. I feel like beginner balls only help the people trying to learn a hook, and only hurt the ones who need to open their angles more.

A ball that's been around for a while that you won't replace down the road. HyRoad pearl, Hyroad, IQ solid, Hype Solid, Phaze 2, Venom Shock, etc.

I love the tropical surge for dry conditions, its pretty much my go to for smooth controlled curve with just enough reaction to get the shots i want in dry conditions.
I absolutely hate it on oily conditions. When the lane is oily, you have a better chance of winning the lottery while getting struck by lightning while simultaneously fornicating with the now late queen of England than you would just getting the damn thing to do anything but go straight or straight over the edge.
Bowled super oily conditions today with my storm when i told the lanes would be dry (the owner decided to oil today and they just opened right before i got there so it ended up being the exact opposite of what i was expecting to practice on.
every shot i bowled went straight for the channel. By game two i figured out the only two ways i was going to be able to strike on the lane was backup balls and Brooklyn entries.
I slowed my approach and used the swing to generate my power, moved a couple boards off center, and dumped every last rev i could into the ball.
Finally i started striking. Still not something consistent tho. Made todays practice feel like a massive waste of my time and energy.
Ya know it's bad when Darren says, please hook...lol

Have only two balls - one for wet and one for dry - with a mechanical round curve to the pocket - not a hook.

When I think of sloppy strikes I think of Brooklyns or just like crazy weird carry type of strikes. But hitting them light and having it carry I never really considered “sloppy”. 🤷🏼♂️

Its only been three months since the last beginner ball at league video. You are in a high speed league it seems.
I am a true beginner and im looking for a good starting ball from one of the storm brands? Im leaning towards tropical surge or the Hy Road Pearl. I also have people telling dont buy tropical surge get something like the original Zen or Hyped solid. i dont really know which of them is the best option i dont know how to hook im trying to learn
Get a Hyroad. Easily the most controllable ball Storm has made in the last 15-20 years.
Even better idea tho, put a lot of surface on your spare ball and play straight up the gutter with it. A lot of bowlers learn how to hook a ball the absolute wrong way and a spare ball with surface (The Spy by Radical is the best of these btw) will show you through its motion what you are doing right and what you are doing wrong.
Hyroad or hyped are great balls you can learn with one of them and use it for awhile! You'd grow out of the surge quickly,
I learned to hook a bowling ball by throwing a football like a bowling ball and trying to throw a spiral
