The idea of Total Depravity, when followed to it's logical end, teaches that the only reason that anyone is in hell is because God did not see fit to save them, not that they would not believe, but that God would not let them believe. This idea is NOT biblical, and turns God into a monster, a demon who has created billions of souls that he never intended to offer Salvation.

I believe what is a pillar concept on total depravity and doing good is a true faith. For we can do many 'good' things, but we cannot please God without faith, and as Paul states, its sinful to do anything not in faith. But through faith, we can then please God.

The kindness of an unbeliever is due to the remnant of God's image in them. Nevertheless, the unbeliever counts this kindness as righteous before a Holy God. No matter how good we think we are, we are not good enough. God said, "This is my Son, in whom I am well pleased". We need Christ's righteousness.

John 12:32 is in the context of gentile people coming to Jesus during His ministry. He consistently insisted on ministering to Israel and not to the gentiles. However, in this verse He tells His disciples that He will draw Jews and Gentiles "if I am lifted up" (i.e. the cross). John 6:44 seems to make it clear that those who are drawn are raised by Christ and thus not all are drawn.

I think people are addicted to power and choice. I believe people choose to be selfish, but when people "choose" to be loving and kind and self-sacrificing, then that is evidence of the work of God in them. For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure (Phil 2:13). COME BACK TO ME
    I do not like seeing My children struggle, nor do I like them to feel alone. I AM the I AM, and I’m not subject to time or physical barriers. What I am subject to is the barriers of the heart. When people walk on the path of this world instead of My path, I must leave them until they find their way back to Me. It breaks My heart when My children who I love,ignore Me, not recognizing Me or, even in some cases, avoiding Me so that they can partake in the sin of your world. There is nothing worth walking away from Me into the darkness, My loves. Nothing. I love you so, but I cannot manhandle or strong-arm you into a relationship with Me. It must be a voluntary action on your part. Once you are in a relationship with Me, I can operate in a different manner within our relationship, yes. But, if you are off in the world, I quite simply have to wait tugging at your heart strings, from time to time, hoping you will return to Me. Come back to Me, lost children. Let Me have the opportunity to shower you with My love and protect you. These things come when you abide in Me. When you continue to walk in sin and walk in this world, I cannot protect you from the consequences of your sin. If you knew how My heart grieved for you when you turn your faces from Me, My loves. I love you so, yet, you walk repetitively away from Me. Come home. Bask in My love and experience My joy in your life. You will see firsthand that no temporary pleasure on this earth is worth not being in fellowship with your creator who loves you. It does not matter where your right now, I will come to you. I will lift your face and shine My face upon you, if you will just come home. Love, Yeshua;

In addition if we have a sinful nature that I’m born with how is it that I’m supposed to repent of that?

Hey there! Those men that you mentioned were prompted by God. God has acted first by revealing Himself through creation (Romans 1) and through the Word of God. Adam no doubt had passed along what he had seen, heard, and experienced, too. The point is that God has acted first!

Anthony Fraire Or it will be an exegetical biblical response. Dr. Brown is only bringing up issues that have already been addressed by Reformed theologians.
It is sad actually in some respect because these disagreements make it look like God is unable to clearly communicate with His creation. He didn’t give us His word so a hundred different people can have a hundred different interpretations on the same scriptures. Unbelievers look at this and say that we can’t even agree among ourselves what the Bible is saying so why should they believe it?

So we could say that man is capable of attempting good but will always fall short of God's standard. An unregenerate man can love his wife, but that love will not measure up to the fulness of the love that the law requires. Man can give alms, but their heart and their actions will not be completely willing, or they will hold back a little more, umming and ahhing over how much to give, or only giving out of their excess. That kind of thing?
A man might see their need for salvation to a degree, without realizing the depths of their own depravity, and might wish to do better, or be better, but they could never fully commit to seeking the LORD, or following Christ, without God drawing them to Himself. Does that sound right?

    WHAT IS TRUE REPENTANCE?
True repentance is a permanent change of character and conduct. It involves a change of opinion respecting the nature of sin, and this change of opinion followed by a corresponding change of feeling towards sin. To one who truly repents, sin looks like a very different thing from what it does to him who has not repented. Instead of looking like a thing that is desirable or fascinating, it looks the very opposite, most odious and detestable, and he is astonished at himself, that he ever could have desired such a thing. He looks back upon it and exclaims, “How hateful, how detestable, how worthy of hell, such and such a thing was in me.” When he views sin in its tendencies, it awakens a vehement desire to stop it, and to save people from their sins, and roll back the tide of death. It sets his heart on fire, and he goes to praying, and laboring, and pulling sinners out of the fire with all his might, to save them from the awful tendencies of sin. When the Christian sets his mind on this, he will bestir himself to make people give up their sins. Just as if he saw all the people taking poison which he knew would destroy them, and he lifts up his voice to warn them to BEWARE. Repentance, when true and genuine, leads to confession and restitution. (Charles Finney)
WHAT IS FALSE GRACE AS OPPOSED TO TRUE GRACE?
FALSE GRACE has people in this perpetual state believing they are saved while they are actually living in disobedience (sin); disobedience is rebellion (sin). They do not believe in repentance daily. They are in danger and know it not. False grace is saying that they have no power to overcome, they are hopeless, and says that Yahushua’s (Jesus’s) sacrifice is insufficient to keep them from sin. It is saying that the power of His shed blood has NO power. In other words, they are confessing that the Holy Spirit is incapable of ridding anyone from weaknesses of the flesh and cannot change anyone from the inside out. Those that believe in this false grace are then not in Yahushua (Jesus) and put themselves under condemnation (nobody has to do it for them), put themselves under God’s wrath and they will not receive salvation if they don’t come out from that way of thinking. False grace says we are all exempt from penalties of sin; this would be called heresy and they believe certain parts of the Bible no longer apply. It is a false sense of security but this is a lie and so far from truth because one must believe from the 1st word written to the last word in the Bible. False grace keep us in total selfishness. It is all about self; what one wants and desires. These people do not believe in holiness or that they will ever achieve it yet the Bible clearly states only those that overcome sin and the deeds of the flesh enter into the kingdom to come. We must have fruit in our lives and we are judged by how we live (our deeds) and He brings His reward at that time with Him to each one of us. When one believes no repentance daily is necessary they are easily ensnared into self and they make no effort to change. They feel they are fine with God yet they take no responsibility for their actions and just ride through life doing as they please thinking they will enter into God’s kingdom to come.
TRUE GRACE speaks in a whole different language and will lead you to Holiness, to obedience and not because of works but simply these people truly love God. These people turn to God daily in true repentance admitting they need His help and need him in their lives, they ask for mercy, desiring to walk in obedience out of love and respect for a Most Holy God. They know God can do anything and nothing is impossible and they allow His Spirit to operate within them to bring about this change and as they are purged and purified, they grow to hate sin for they see how it has even hurt them and those that they love. They know that God helps us through all addictions and whatever else is deep within our hearts, our souls and empowers us to win the race and to overcome. This is how one defeats satan in the end.
People must stop identifying with their sin because then you are in agreement with Satan to keep you in these strongholds and he wins and you lose and each one of us needs to kick him to the curb daily and start only identifying more with Holiness and the nature of God, His character. We must rid ourselves of our temptations and patterns that are not working in our favor and just get fed up with all the schemes of satan and how he pulls on our flesh. It is not as hard as people make it out to be because we have a friend called the Comforter who helps us along the way once we have accepted Yahushua (Jesus) as our King & Savior.
To overcome we must walk the walk, not just talk the talk! Talking does nothing for anyone but there must be evidence of a changed life. How is anyone going to believe you are a true Christian brother or sister if you hate, are steeped in unforgiveness, slander, steal from family, sit at home drinking and doing drugs, in fornication, adultery, envy, jealousy, greed (list goes on and on) or whatever else your poison is. Do you truly think you are a Christian or do they see how you are lying even to yourself? You must come out from under that false grace way of thinking because without change, how are you really saved? Did Yahushua (Jesus) party on and partake of all the lusts back in his day, did He slander, steal, hate, or stay in unforgiveness or did He walk the walk and show us how to? Did He say to the Father, “sorry dad, I am not about to give up anything on this journey called life for you or for anyone else?” Yahushua (Jesus) walked and lived by God’s commandments and never went against Him.
Think about this because it is so very important. Do not live under the lies of satan that God is good with us in sin and that we are fine dying in it. Remember satan is a deceiver, a liar, a thief and even a murderer. He is the one that took from you, caused your problems, makes you feel bad about yourself, talks you into vulgarity, perversions, lusts of all sorts. He could care less about you but drools all over himself making sure he sends his minions to keep you locked in tight in sin and in enmity with your Father who has always loved you from the start.
Wake up for the hour is ending and this world is fading away and anyone who cannot see that I do not know what to say. It is all around us; here and in other nations & if you can’t tell things are rapidly going away then you are truly in the dark still. Once truly repentant, your eyes will be opened to see! Remember, SIN is a “heart condition”. God seeks the heart and if we live in disobedience, in constant hate, unforgiveness, bitterness and slandering others then our heart condition does not align with our Heavenly Father. Yes it is hard to get over things but if one truly repents from the heart, then you allow His Spirit in to do the work in you which frees you! There is much freedom in letting go.
I speak from experience about satan and his tactics; he did everything he could to try and destroy me. There is no love for us in him…he is a snake charmer selling you a bill of goods that says you are a child of God forever if you remain in sin; instead he will escort you or have one of his generals do so on the way down to hell.
Let love in; love that never fails…let the One who loved us all from the beginning. How hard is it to say you are sorry? We were born into sin through Adam and Eve so there is no getting around that part of it but we have an advocate, the Holy Spirit who was sent to us to help us, change us, intercede for us if we allow Him into our heart by asking for forgiveness with a contrite heart. Father in heaven loves us all very dearly and if He didn’t He would not put out so many Words about how important repentance is. He keeps reaching out His hand, so take His hand and let Him in!
True grace gets you into New Jerusalem because you can overcome sin and false grace sends you straight to the pit of hell at the end of life’s journey. It is you that puts yourself into hell. God is Holy and cannot bear to be around sin He cannot and will not let those enter in. Daily repentance cleanses and purifies and why it is so necessary.

Man is depraved in the sense that ALL of US sin, all fall short of GODS Glory,,there is not ONE Righteous,no not 1. All of us are destined to Hell, But God in Scripture reveals Himself to ALL men, so that we can escape that destination. Paul says in Romans that we All HAVE the Light of Conscience and the Light of Creation within and without, therefore no man has any Excuse!! SO God commands then ALL men Everywhere Repent and that means we can respond to the Gospel, that He gave first to the Jew and then to the Greek. the Jews were given the Gospel as Jesus said -Salvation is of the Jews. Meaning that God gave all of us a way out, an if we respond to the Light we can get the Light of Christ! Trying to pin down a calvinist's view is like trying to nail jelly to a wall. There's a spectrum of calvinists, so to say he doesn't understand it is meaningless. He's debated the issue many times and understands it very well. When I speak to people about abortion, I use the term "murder" to describe what is happening to the children. Often times it's met with saying I am against the choice of women or it's just a fetus. Does that mean I don't understand abortion, simply because I bring it to a logical conclusion that the person doesn't like or I don't phrase what is happening how they would like? No, I understand the issue very well, they just don't like the conclusion I have arrived at, especially in light of other factors. Calvinism is the same thing. Whenever I am consistent with a calvinists views or don't describe it as they would like, I am without fail told "you don't understand calvinism". It's an exhausted argument (it's not an argument at all actually) and it needs to stop.

You've yet to demonstrate how exactly Dr. Brown "doesn't understand" total depravity.
My point was Dennis is that just because you don't like the way someone phrases something or you don't agree with the logical or scriptural conclusions they come to, that is not the same thing as them "not understanding" a doctrine, especially because even within just calvinism their is a spectrum of beliefs that range across the tulip from people who would all identify as calvinists but hold very different views. Saying to someone they "don't understand" something is not an argument and people need to stop saying it. Many advocates for man’s free will often cite verses like John 3:16, which in no way actually address man’s ability to believe. So here is a list of verses that actually use the Greek word for can/able and specifically address man’s INABILITY.
In The Original GOD-Breathed Greek NT,
The exact Literal phrase for NOT ABLE is OU DUNATAI,
and specifically occurs in most of these Scriptures as well as many others :
    Mark 10:26-27/Literal :
    But they were Exceedingly Astonished,
    Saying to themselves,
And who is ABLE to be Saved?
    And having Looked at them,
    Jesus says,
    With Humans It is IMPOSSIBLE,
    But Not with God,
For All Things are POSSIBLE with God.
    John 3:3/Literal :
NO one is ABLE to See The Kingdom of God,
Unless he Has been Begotten from Above.
    John 3:27/Literal :
NO one is ABLE to Receive Anything,
Unless It Has been Given to him from Heaven.
    John 6:44/Literal :
NO one is ABLE to Come to Me,
Unless he Has been Drawn by The Father.
    John 6:65/Literal :
NO one is ABLE to Come to Me,
Unless It Has been Given to him from The Father.
    John 8:43/Literal :
Why do you Not Understand My Speech?
Because you are NOT ABLE to Hear My Word.
    John 12:39/Literal :
    Because of This,
They were NOT ABLE to Believe.
    John 14:17/Literal :
    The Spirit of The Truth,
Whom the World is NOT ABLE to Receive,
Because It does Not See Him,
    Nor Know Him,
    But you Know Him,
    Because He Abides with you,
    And will be in you.
    Romans 8:7-8/Literal :
Because the Mind of the Flesh is Hostile to God,
For It is Not Subject to The Law of God,
For It is NOT even ABLE to be,
And those Being in the Flesh are NOT ABLE to Please God.
    1 Corinthians 2:14/Literal :
But the Soulical Human does Not Accept The Things of The Spirit of God,
For They are Foolishness to him,
And he is NOT ABLE to Know Them,
    Because They are Spiritually Discerned.
    1 Corinthians 12:3/Literal :
Therefore I Make Known to you,
Because No one speaking in The Spirit of God says Anathema Jesus,
And NO one is ABLE to say Lord Jesus,
    Except in The Holy Spirit.
    IF we were ABLE,
    To Believe (John 12:39),
    Or Be Saved (Mark 10:26-27),
Or Hear His Word (John 8:43),
    Or Receive Anything (John 3:27),
Or Receive His Spirit (John 14:17),
Or See The Kingdom of God (John 3:3),
Or Come to The Lord (cf. John 6:37,6:44, 6:65),
IN & OF ourselves (cf. John 1:13, 6:63-65, Ephesians 2:8),
APART from HIS Saving GRACE (cf. Ephesians 2:1-5, 2 Timothy 1:9),
THEN there would be NO NEED for HIS Saving GRACE.
    Ultimately,
It is BECAUSE OF HIM that we are in Christ (1 Corinthians 1:30, Ephesians 1:4-11),
and NOT OF ourselves (Ephesians 2:8, cf. John 1:13, 6:63-65, Romans 9:16),
    for OF HIS OWN WILL,
HE Brought us Forth through The Word of Truth (James 1:18).

There are other scriptures one can site which is why I and others do not hold to the Calvin view.
We are commanded to repent and believe, that is, an imperative injunction to the person or persons who hears the Gospel.
Calvinist will say those who got saved were regenerated first, afterwards they believed and thus are saved: total depravity.
Is the command to repent and to believe solely a work of the grace of God on the person and not to the individual who is hearing the Gospel message? Also, if the unregenerate can't believe or have faith apart from the Holy Spirit, needing to be regenerated first, why do we find fallen men responding in faith and encouraged not to fear?
John 6:Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
The work of God is to believe on Jesus which takes an effort on our part "to labour on the meat" Christ Jesus. Even Faith, in any healing, or thing God does, we have to have faith.
But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
Matthew 14:24-31 24But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. 25And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. 26And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. 27But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
28And Peter answered him and said,29And he said, Come. And when .
30But when ; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. 31And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him,
Jesus saved Peter but he was told: "O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?"
This is Christ own words, that our FAITH can be DIMINISHED OR be of "LITTLE faith," thereby, FEAR and DOUBT caused Peter to lose the faith he had to come and walk on the water as Jesus Christ did. As the book of James, in chapter 1:6-8,"But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord." Hence, God commands us to have faith which is a gift of God; however, there is something on our part to obtain and a RESPONSE to that faith gift.
Peter by God's Spirit had the faith to walk on water but FEAR caused Peter to sink, hence, his FAITH DIMINISHED. If we, according to Calvinism, only can have faith by God due to our nature with no participation, Peter's faith should have REMAINED: NO WAVERING; that is to say, regarding if there is NO working together of our faith along with the working of God, called , then Peter's faith should not DIMINISHED for FEAR of the wind.
Therefore, faith is a PARTICIPATION and or by the Holy Spirit and MAN.
Secondly, in Mark 9:22, 23,24, the man whose son was possessed with a demon since he was a child, said to Jesus Christ: “if you can can do anything” which Jesus replied “If you can all things are possible to him who BELIEVES”**
Very essential point ,the Lord STRESSED that "IF YOU CAN", not If I can; for the Lord can do all things, but "If you can" then all things are possible, if you believe, which do DISPLAY that we have TO HAVE FAITH; hence, the man said “I believe” Verb “Help mine, unbelief” This is PROOF that it is the Lord’s grace and by His Spirit to AID our unbelief, the little faith we may have: we HAVE TO RESPOND IN FAITH
More importantly, jairus’ had FAITH but the messengers WORD brought forth FEAR.
Mark 9: While he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue's house, saying to him, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master. But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, , and she shall be made whole.
Notice, jairus who had faith in the Lord at first, but fear of that message LESSENED HIS FAITH . According to Matthew 9:18,19,23-25; Mark 5:22, *23,* 35,*36*-43 gives VITAL DETAILS which Matthew does not provide; Luke 8:41,42,*49,* *50,*
Jairus had faith that Jesus could heal his daughter by saying "that she may be healed; and she SHALL LIVE," exhibits of a FUTURE event: faith she will be whole. Then a messenger delivered a frightening message which made Jairus faith lessen or DIMINISH.
***Mark 5:36 is Verb-action, Present, Imperative which is a , Active 2nd person (V-PMA-2p) and Luke 8:50 Verb, Aorist-an unqualified past tense of a verb without reference to duration or completion of the action., Imperative or COMMAND, Active voice, in 2nd person (V-AMA-2S) **.
Therefore, faith is a gift of God but that faith can be canceled out: by our unbelief and or fear of our surrounds.

Why do you all refer to 1God as a "he, she...." That is so twisted, literally.

Christians believe God inspired the Bible and called himself he. Further, Jesus was male in every sense. Of course we call Him "He."

    COME BACK TO ME
    I do not like seeing My children struggle, nor do I like them to feel alone. I AM the I AM, and I’m not subject to time or physical barriers. What I am subject to is the barriers of the heart. When people walk on the path of this world instead of My path, I must leave them until they find their way back to Me. It breaks My heart when My children who I love,ignore Me, not recognizing Me or, even in some cases, avoiding Me so that they can partake in the sin of your world. There is nothing worth walking away from Me into the darkness, My loves. Nothing. I love you so, but I cannot manhandle or strong-arm you into a relationship with Me. It must be a voluntary action on your part. Once you are in a relationship with Me, I can operate in a different manner within our relationship, yes. But, if you are off in the world, I quite simply have to wait tugging at your heart strings, from time to time, hoping you will return to Me. Come back to Me, lost children. Let Me have the opportunity to shower you with My love and protect you. These things come when you abide in Me. When you continue to walk in sin and walk in this world, I cannot protect you from the consequences of your sin. If you knew how My heart grieved for you when you turn your faces from Me, My loves. I love you so, yet, you walk repetitively away from Me. Come home. Bask in My love and experience My joy in your life. You will see firsthand that no temporary pleasure on this earth is worth not being in fellowship with your creator who loves you. It does not matter where your right now, I will come to you. I will lift your face and shine My face upon you, if you will just come home. Love, Yeshua;
