Sirena (mermaid) is a euphemism for an effeminate boy in my country. I love how the song is “owning” the term, like “yes, I’m a mermaid and I’m beautiful.” Because the popular mythical mermaids are beautiful. Powerful song, thank you for your reaction. Please react more to Ebe Dancel . He was in a band called Sugarfree in the 90s to early 2000s. I love their song, “Tulog Na.”

In the past, parents thought to Straighten their gay son, they need to enforce extreme corporal punishment. So they would drown their kids in a water drum container like it was in the music video. I heard that some would put their kids inside an empty sack of rice and hang it on a tree for a whole day without letting them have any meal, thinking that after doing so their gay son would learn his lesson and become a real man.
The main character in this song is saying that he's a sirena (mermaid) but instead of the ocean he dives in a container field with water. He' also saying that what ever abuse his father did to him he becomes stronger and and even more sure of his identity. In the end he ends up taking care of his old father because all of his "straight" siblings married of and settled far away from their father. In his father's deathbed he apologizes to his son because of the pain that he caused him.
He told the son the he realized that "Di sinusukat ang tapang at ang bigote sa mukha Dahil kung minsan, mas lalake pa sa lalake ang bakla" which means, "Manhood is not measured by just having spunk or how much mustache you have, because sometimes gays are manlier than a straight man."
I love when gloc9 creates music he always right a story that tackles about important issues that are rarely talked about.
During the late 80’s and early 90’s some houses have water ration to them. They put water in big drums so they would have something to wash and clean etc. traditional dad’s don’t want their son to be gays to carry the family name , for posterity etc. dad displace his son by dunking him in the water to change his mind. Instead the boy just switch his mind set that he is a mermaid. Turning something negative into a positive mind set.
Even though it was tough growing up. When his dad got cancer it was him who took care of him that lead for them to be closer together. It was hard for the dad at his current state realizing how cruel he was to his son.
