      Imagine the cost of using them as treatment. It’s probably 1500 every time you go into the doctors office.

    I have had Tinnitus for as long as I can remember and I’m 80 years old and I solved it by learning to ignore it 95 % of the time. I don’t remember it until I run across an article about it. Now it will bug me for an hour or so then I will have started ignoring it again. To me it’s the same noise I get from the traffic that goes by our house constantly.

      Striking one's thumb with a hammer gives instant relief from Tinnitis. As for the electronic tones & alien space sounds one finds on youtube are ineffective.
      Better to watch TH-cam videos with headphones or perhaps listening to an audiobook works well. anything that occupies the mind is better than gimmicks.

    I'm French, and I'm suffering of tinnitus. The kind of sound I hear is approx 16kHz.
    Surprisingly, the best result I have is when I work on a couple acupuncture + stress reduction.
    I discovered a strong link between lever / gallbladder / stomach, anxiety and tinnitus.
    My 2 cents from France.
    Hold on for everyone who suffer : most of the time, it's curable.

    As a long time hearing aid wearer of different brands, I demoed the Lyric, but had to self remove them six hours after their insertion. Background noise was so loud and uncomfortable, my brain couldn’t take it! I wanted so badly for it to work since, as a flight attendant, I am somewhat self-conscious about having to wear hearing aids. The Lyric seemed to be the answer to my dreams. Unfortunately, either my prescription was badly administered, or the Lyric just wasn’t for me. The background noise while wearing the Lyric drowned out most speech reception even when the speaker was right next to me. All background noise, like Air Conditioning, refrigerators, driving in the car, etc, was unbearable. In the car, I couldn’t even hear the radio. Hopefully, the Lyric will improve in speech recognition and background noise reduction so I can try them again.

    mind-over-matter is the best treatment in my experience (i am sure there are worse cases than mine). patience, attitude and mindset can go a long way, to the point where you barely notice your tinnitus. don't give it your attention. combine that with exercise, rest, and a good diet, and remove some bad habits. of course if other treatments can work, try them.

    • @Columbus1152
      @Columbus1152 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@atashakgem For me the noise masking started one summer when I had a room air conditioner in our bedroom, I got used to the blower fan sound and slept better. Without the noise in the background, my tinnitus is much more noticeable and from what Dr. Cliff relates in this video explains a lot. Since my wife refused to keep the AC unit running all winter (LOL), I got a sound machine, my two favorites are the white noise and the rain sounds. I've had mine for years and it's built into a clock radio, I've also used my Amazon Echo and played white or brown noise, works just as well. As far as volume, I turn it up enough to be a soft background noise I can hear, you'll have to see what's most comfortable for yourself or if you sleep with someone, how much they can tolerate. Good luck.

  • @audiologistsnorthwest9298
    @audiologistsnorthwest9298 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Dr. Cliff,
    You might not be aware that 20% of tinnitus sufferers classify their tinnitus as severe/profound, which would make a hearing aid (in any capacity) useless in reducing perceptual tinnitus. To successfully treat patients who suffer from hearing loss along with bothersome tinnitus, you need a treatment plan that includes CBT, amplification, and sound therapy. I fit a majority of my bothersome tinnitus patients with Widex hearing aids utilizing Zen Therapy along with CBT. Some of my patients choose to wear their Widex devices (utilizing Zen Therapy) while sleeping; for others, we create a soundscape in their environment using a variety of maskers, including sound generators, audiobooks, music, etc. From my personal experience, treating tinnitus is not as easy as sticking a hearing aid in the ear and letting the patient go. Also, Phonak’s Lyric is far from a perfect device. The migration issues alone are significantly problematic.

    • @DrCliffAuD
      @DrCliffAuD  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally aware. However, classification of Severe to Profound tinnitus does not mean that users cannot benefit significantly from hearing aids. What are you basing that comment on?

    What do you think of Notch method with sign. I have tinnitus and am considering it. I like the information you provide about lyrica but wonder if it’s a little more expense over and over repeating for ever. If the issue is bad enough then one might not look at it as an expense so much.

    DR Cliff, my husband suffered meningitis and apparently he is experiencing hearing loss and tinnitus symptoms. I’m trying to get more information about. It just happen 3 weeks ago, My question is: hearing aids could help him for the hearing losses, we are no sure yet, they suggest that he need cochlear implants but they don’t said nothing about the tinnitus. This device (Lyric) could be used with the cochlear implant? In case we proceed with the implant!

      If any residual hearing is left post implantation they normally fit you with a behind the ear hearing aid for low frequencies and the implant for high frequencies (that is what they call EAS (electric acoustic stimulation). I have never heard of a lyric being used in this case.

    are you really having reinlief now after the lyrics hearing aids? I been to audiology few times but the doctor there never told me about this or maybe he doesn’t know? Pls could you advice on sound therapy? Should it be louder or lower than my tinnitus sound? I have no idea what sound, white, pink, loud or low volume, high pitch low pitch? mine is like bell ring and can be so loud night time, so sound therapy is my option for now, Tnx 🥺😓😥😢🙏🙏🙏🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

    So do you only have tinnitus in your right ear? I seem to have it the same in both ears. And yes when I am wearing my hearing aids, I don't notice tinnitus at all.

    I don't understand how keeping hearing aids in while you sleep (or are trying to sleep) would help Tinnitus. Don't people mostly sleep in quiet environments where there isn't any noise for the aids to amplify?

    • @DrCliffAuD
      @DrCliffAuD  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no environment on the planet earth that is devoid of sound. If you measure a quiet room, you will typically get between 30-40 dB of measured sound.

    How cost-effective is a hearing aid that has to be changed out every couple of months?

    • @DrCliffAuD
      @DrCliffAuD  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      How important is hearing? Cost is relative.

    • @Scubamike4499
      @Scubamike4499 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cost is not relative
      Not everyone has $1000s to spend. I think a ballpark figure would be nice.
      The amount might be the difference between pursuing the product or just living with the tinnitus

    Analogue better than digital? Plus can this aid work for those of severe hearing loss? Be cool if could like contact lenses !

    Are these able to get wet like in a shower or when it's raining? In addition, do they have bluetooth capabilities so you won't have to attempt to put in bluetooth earbuds when listening to TV.

      In his other video he said you can shower with it, but don’t shoot the water into your ear. It’s water resistant not waterproof.

      your hearing loss will come later. Took 5 years to lose some hearing....than it spreads to the other ear

    • @IcarusMK22
      @IcarusMK22 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, there is probably some hearing loss at high frequency, as is the case with me. Normal hearing tests only check up to 8 or 10khz. If you're like me, the hearing loss causing tinnitus is up over 10 to 16khz, and because there aren't speech sounds in that range, it's reported as normal on the hearing test. Anyway, enjoy you're hearing while you have it and I would recommend masking devices which can be removed more easily when you don't need them.
