I bought a sigma a month or so ago second hand and what a guitar...it has the older logo on the head and the dots on the fret board and sounds amazing..best decision I've made..came with a hard case and for the price (400)UK I'm over the moon..would definitely recommend over epiphone as a alternative to the gibson..great video..

Sigma so great here! And still original J45 sounds bit more more deep, balanced and lush compared to it.

Great video, thanks! Your audio was great and I listened through high quality headphones. The two Gibsons actually sounded pretty close and I even think the G 45 projected the best of the two. The Sigma sounded pretty close in all respects but considering the materials and construction, that's to be expected. Naturally I would love to own a J 45, but considering the price difference and the old law of diminishing returns as per price, I would definitely choose the Sigma. Not bad AT ALL!

very nice playing nd example variation. gibson j45 in first place for. sigma is good but more scratchy. j45 all strings are equally balanced.

For most of the video I had the J45 and the Sigma neck and neck for a lot of it, but then the type of playing from 16 minutes onwards, Sonic Youth-style open or model tunings, it really separates an amazing guitar from a good guitar. The Gibson J45 has the menace and anticipation of an approaching thunderstorm. The Sigma is tonally close, but just doesn't give those chords that same sense of brooding threat, the low end lacked tightness and drive. I actually liked how the G45 rendered that section, although it was much lighter in mood, like the thunderstorm clearing.

Sigma is good for a third of the J45s price. Gibson has a sweeter top end. I’ve noticed this on other comparison videos. The sigma also has a bit more low mid woof. I think the J45 has beautiful balance across the strings. I recently purchased a pre loved SJM SG45 and I am really enjoying it (though I have better sounding guitars) as I got a great deal. And it looks awesome 😎

Great comparison. I love them all. The Sigma gets surprisingly close to the J45, and I was not expecting to like the G45 as much as I did (though it has a decidedly different tone than the J45 and SJM-SG45). Also, I was seriously impressed with the tones you were able to get out of two dynamic mics. Going to have to play with my SM57 more on acoustics :)

For almost a third of the price, very worthy. Thanks for the video and info, Nick. And also for plugging it in direct to the interface. Can you share what type of audio interface you used for this recording?

No worries at all. I actually just used a Behringer UR44 for this one. Nothing fancy.

The real deal is obviously the choice here, but I'm really impressed with that sigma - It sounds about 80-90% right for 1/4 the price. Most of us would need think long and hard before dropping that kind of money on the Gibbo, but the Sigma is actually affordable and makes owning a great acoustic achievable.

I have the AMI branded J45 (North American cousin to Sigma) and after pretty extensive set up and pin change (to Bob Colossi died bone) and string change to Martin Flex Core (Tommy Emanuel endorsed 12-54 P) it sounds incredible!
The sound port on the G45 intrigues me as I play at an open mic venue and actually hearing the guitar acoustics is a bit difficult... however, it doesn't have the great tone of the J45, so, I'll pass,

Sigma is such a good guitar but if I had the finances I’d get the j45.
    Great playing.

How about some Normal chord strumming? G, D, C, Em, Am and so on, Why the almost dissonant chords that makes the Bass strings rumble?
