Let me know in the comments below if you have had any similar issues with your Honda HRC-216?

My son and wife both told me these same symptoms so when I looked at it, I seen that the filter was indeed in the tank and already planned to put on an inline filter. So thank you very much for showing me how you did yours.

2 years later and your video is still helping folks like me! Just replaced the teeny in tank filter with a new one about the same size as yours, new spark plug too. This mower hasn't ran this good in years! Thanks for the video stranger

I’m having an issue with surging on my mower. I’ve cleaned the carb (especially the pilot jet) upmteen times. So I starting thinking about air or fuel filter issues. I wonder if you ever seen that. I’m gonna go that route and see if simply removing the filter, temporarily, will resolve the issue.

I just recently started to experience the same issues you mentioned in your video. It’ll start just fine, but will sound like it’s bogging down then running fine then right back to bogging down…over and over again. I’m going to eliminate the small filter and put a different filter like you suggested. I’m excited to see & hear it run better. She’s only had about 10 uses within a year time span.

The other issue they have that causes the same problem is mowing in the rain. The fuel tank vents from little holes underneath the edges of the gas cap. In the rain they suck up water and clog the vents making it act like it’s out of fuel. You open the cap to check the fuel and it releases the vacuum and let’s air in the tank and it runs again for a few minutes then dies again. And so on and so forth. It’s why I eventually stopped using the Honda mowers in my business. I’m in the Pacific North West and it rains here like 8 months a year so it was not reliable enough to use. Thanks for watching.

Great idea. Mine seems to have lower power when I engage the blades. Runs and pulls like a champ without them running. Any idea on what could be wrong? Do you think this would help?

Sorry I’m not sure. I’ve never experienced that issue with any of my Honda mowers. Thanks for watching.

Hi, which inline fuel filter did you use? Could you post a link for the part? Thanks!

I just used a fuel filter I had lying around from a maintenance kit for a John Deere LA125 lawn tractor I use to own. Those fuel filters are pretty generic and can be found at most auto part and lawn mower shops. Thanks for watching.

Do you know if there is a way to add an electric start to the HRC216 series? I have an older model and was curious if you knew

It would need quite a few parts including a new flywheel with magnets. Not sure it would be worth the cost or if compatible parts are even available.

I ended up doing the same thing. The filter they put in is a joke.

Great work Julio, have you considered sending the manufacturer an email with the problem and solution, would be interesting to see their response. It should be a major upgrade they could do on future models.

No I haven’t. They would probably say don’t get dirt in your tank. Funny I’ve seen bigger fuel filters on string trimmers. I would like to see them add a inline fuel filter, spin on oil filter and hour meter on small 21” commercial mowers.

I will bet they do this intentionally. Cheaper and requires more expensive maintenance.

Because TH-cam does not pay the bills, mowing lawns does. I did the video after the fact. When I did it I was in the middle of the work day when the mower started having issues. Had to come home and do a quick fix and get back out mowing. No time to film. Thanks for watching.
