    Hard to choose between sides, but pinned down--I like this side the best probably because I love the smaller fish and the angels. Those solid blacks are just gorgeous. Also the tanks are so beautifully landscaped! I see a lot of tanks in this video with the small natural gravel in them sort of like I asked about in the other one, but don't know if it's aquarium gravel or gathered gravel like I'm asking about.

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of the natural looking gravel came from the Aquatic Experience in 2017 and now I don't remember the brand, although, Caribsea gravel looks nice too.

    If I had a 50 gallon low boy I would have a bunch of driftwood and plants that sort of come out of the water and a bunch of leaves and plants. Then I would get some rare gouramis, tetras, rams, apistos, killifish, small loaches and a medium sized pleco.

    Do you change up your water parameters for the different types of fish or does everyone live in the same kind of water? For example in your Tanganyika tanks so you put argonite or crushed coral in the substrate?

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! For the most part I make no effort in changing the water parameters for my fish. The water is naturally hard with a high pH. I try to keep fish that will tolerate my water parameters. I've found consistent water parameters are more important than chasing the ideal.

    Your Geophagus "surinamensis" is another species, Geophagus altifrons. True surinamensis are rare and the name is a catch all term for unidentified geos in the trade.

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm still on the fence with that one. I know the history of the species designations, but the person who bred them has some knowledge as well and identified them as such (based on where they were collected). Given the confusion on the species designation I've stuck with surinamensis for that particular specimen, but not bound to it either.. Thanks for the input!

    Seriously give the Latin names a miss. Make it easy for you average subscriber use normal names!!!!
    It’s not impressive to real off those names jut really annoying!!!!!!

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zombie I give common names when they are consistent and, well, common. If a fish is not well known by a common name, or the name is used by multiple fish, a common name only causes confusion. Since no two fish share a scientific name, it’s not a matter of trying to sound smart, only trying provide the most accurate information I can.
