    Propagating Alocasia Polly from harvested corms bulbs.
    In this video I take my poor Polly apart in search of corms bulbs (whatever you want to call them) so I can propagate them. I have no idea what I am doing but wanted to experiment! Which I did with SUCCESS! I learned a lot and share how I harvest the corms/bulbs and got my corms to produce tiny baby Pollies!

    Your video is amazing. It wasn't professionally edited, it didn't have all those fancy lighting and stands, and yet you connected with your intended audience very well. I liked how you said it was a journey, and showed mother polly dying at the end of the video. Loved that you provided a 6mth update. I'm waiting for my 5 Alocasia nobilis corms to sprout like yours, following your advice. Would let you know how mine will be like in a couple months. Hello from Singapore!

      Mother Polly Lives! On a plant group I was informed that maybe she was fping into hibernation. So I decided to check her roots which were alive and healthy. O cleaned out the rotten ones found more corms! And separated it. I replanted in clean pots and put in new soil and it's growing back. I should do update video :) those new corms have grown too now

    I put mine in a shallow dish with fluval stratum at the bottom. I halfway submerge them into it then surround each with and sphagnum moss. I keep the dish covered to make greenhouse and place under grow lights. It speeds up the root growth process.

      Love it! I love experimenting with plants. I have done some really interesting things with growing plants from vegetables I bought at the grocery store (tomatoes and green peppers to be exact) I have done other things too but recently, I have been experimenting on different generations created from one tomato that was NOT organic from the grocery store. I am onto the 3rd generation. My biggest success was growing them all winter using hydroponics- I really need to start videoing these things. It's actually really interesting the difference each generation looks like- Totally can tell in the first generation where they were alternated from.

    Hi Deena!! I know how it feels to find corms, it made me chuckle when you said that because it makes me so excited too ☺️ I’ve had great success with the shallow water method but my roots grew much quicker than yours. The corms are slightly calloused when we find them in the dirt so before putting them in the water dish I gently scrape off the dark brown sheath under running water and then place them in the water just like you demonstrated and my roots grew in much quicker. I’m wondering if the brown sheath slows down the growth of roots because it may act as a barrier. Not sure but just wanted to share that with you in case you’re interested.

      I agree!! Same happens with Avocado nuts! Peel the brown skins off the pit and it grows way quicker and better. Interestingly also is my corms that were newer and had no film over them, those ones grew right away and faster and the bigger and harder and thicker skin seem to be the ones that don't grow or rot. 1000% agree! with you!

    Wow! 6 months! I got my first leaf in 3.5 weeks and the second at 5 weeks. I just switched to pon, 7 weeks and we've got the third leaf coming in. I started it in moss with root hormone. I then bought a black velvet and got 8 corms. Started in moss with Prop Drops last month, 8/23/24, and they are starting to push out their first leaves. I'm switching one over now to leca, to see how it goes, and that's why I'm here 😅😊

    Your video just popped up after days of searching for this information.
    I had found a Polly corm 2 years ago when I first transplanted it. I thought it would grow into another plant like most plants do (no knowledge what-so-ever about Alocasia Polly's).
    I just found 13, didn't have sphagnum moss, pebbles, etc., but you started yours in water.
    I have a lot of patience, so I'll give your method a shot.
    Thanks so much for doing this upload!

      You are welcome! I have found the growing process slow but satisfying. .The main plant that I thought was dead is in fact not. I ended up taking out of pot and the roots and base are fine and healthy plus I found 5 more corms! So I have potted the main plant back up and going to be patient and let it grow again. Apparently they do this often? Go dormant then grow back. I will post update in a few months how all are growing.

      I really need to post an update to show where they are now. The are full-fledged plants now. Some of mine sprouted right away but many didn't, but they did after many months. Only a couple rotted. Now years later I have given some away as gifts some died along the way - all survived a year and the ones remaining are thriving- Same with the Mother plant! She is back to the size I got her- Not as big as in the video but getting there!

What I discovered is if the original leaf dies cut it off but keep watering soil etc.. and light and it grows back. My mother plant went dormant but is now growing strong again 😀

    Recycled plastic spinach container, lava rock, potting soil, spray bottle, space under a regular lamp.
    6/13: arranged 13 bulbs in rows, mist, close the top. Mist every 2 - 3 days.
    6/29: root appears out of one bulb.
    7/2: root appears out of a second bulb.

    Is your “flower” showing somewhat of a foam tip? I have a start of what I thought was a leaf on mine and now it has a ball shape in the stock and what looks like foam is coming out of it

    • @deenaisvlogging266
      @deenaisvlogging266  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      apparently that is the flower. It kind of opens up a bit and looks kind of vulgar haha! I have had it happen twice with my main plant. My main plant is really making a come back. It's small compared to what it was but it is growing really well. There were actually two that were kind of grown together and even that one is starting to sprout. My bulb ones are still alive but the leaves keep dying and another grows back. I have no idea what that means.

    • @deenaisvlogging266
      @deenaisvlogging266  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I probably would do that next time if the cormbs were older and big. I did notice that newer ones that are not covered in brown "skin?" grew super fast where as the ones with the covering grew slower. That said it is the brown ones that are still alive! And striving. They are proper little plants now. Not all of them made it but enough that I call it a success.

    Do you have to plant them in leca?

    • @deenaisvlogging266
      @deenaisvlogging266  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      you don't have too but I haven't had luck putting them into soil right away after they rooted in the shallow water. I have had luck after they were established to transplant them into soil. In fact after a while I kind of have to or else the leaves start to die. I am guessing because I have no nutrients in the water. What I have done is put the corm back in the shallow water and it grows a new leaf. Once the leaf looks good and strong I transplant it to soil and that seems to do the trick. This has been my experience.
