12:23 I love the reaction of the RMP corporal to the soldier waffling on about his leather/plastic wallet…. 😂

Females weren't armed until after 1982. This was because after that time wrac were considered combatants under the Geneva Convention. The various directors of the wrac-Women's Royal Army Corps felt it was more important to maintain the feminine image than giving them the skills needed to protect themselves independently. A female redcap's uniform up until the 90s consisted of a white blouse, green skirt,tie/tab tie with rank badge ,rmp armband and red forage cap. A military policewoman would also carry a black leather handbag.
Having to break up a large fight, which could involve the use of control and restraint techniques; in a straight skirt with a handbag slung over your left shoulder and black court shoes? Maintaining your femininity is the least of your worries when trying to break up a fight between 2 sozzled squaddies!!!
This film was made in the 70s when Females were only allowed to join the army as support staff. 50 years ago, nobody would've believed women could fight in combat, fly helicopters, disarm bombs, act as fighter controllers. But this happens today everyday in the forces.

As a civilian police officer who joined in the early 80s I remember that the female uniform consisted of skirt, blouse, tunic, tights and the white soft “ice cream sellers” hat.
They also carried a black leather handbag in which was contained their notebook, a shortened version of the truncheon and cuffs.
Hugely impractical of course and like the army they were more concerned with preserving a feminine image than what was practical.
All through the 80s they kept trying different ideas including culottes of all things then they eventually hit on the bright idea of “I know let’s give them trousers”.. 🙄
Women now of course wear pretty much the same uniform as men with the exception of the “bowler hat” which is only right..

I recently read the memoir of a WPC who served in Thames Valley Police. She described how her male tutor constable advised her to ditch the handbag, get a black leather belt, put the cuffs and a medium sized maglite torch(4D cell size).
The notebook and pen was placed in the tunic pocket. This made the it possible for her to arrest suspects and break up fights. Th sergeants and the inspectors didn't tend to say anything because the handbag was more of a hindrance, it made the women less agile and able to pursue suspects; never mind defend themselves from a violent suspect resisting arrest.
