Years ago I managed to close my car door on the zipper of my Marmot GoreTex shell. Goodbye zipper. So I sheepishly called Marmot, confessed my sin and asked if they could repair or replace the zipper. Not only did they say yes, they said FREE. And two weeks later they called me to say they had inspected the GoreTex layer, found it was delaminating, and wanted to replace the jacket--FREE. With anything similar from their product line. REALLY NICE PEOPLE TO DEAL WITH!
I envy the American service culture. Here in the UK they rip you off for every single penny. Yes, they sure know how to take the piss so it's nice to hear from people who have had a better experience (it restores my faith in human nature.)
@@oleggorky906 Marmot's service was way beyond the typical service culture. We have all too few companies who reslize that making the customer happy is better cheaper advertiding, and a better profit-maker for their company, than the couple of bucks they could save by saying "not our problem".
Sage advice on not overloading smaller backpacks. When you have to carry heavy loads, use a load hauler with dual stays and a reinforced hip belt or a large external frame pack.
What's up brother! A little surprised you're still using the Kahtoolas. We hike in Maine and New Hampshire all winter long and are constantly finding pieces of those things everywhere. We swear by the Hillsounds as they have more aggressive spikes plus the velcro strap that goes over your boot to keep them from falling off. Looking forward to your new adventure.
Why choose 65L or 75L? Get the Sierra designs Flex Capacitor 60-75L, at 2lb 10oz, with a heavy duty suspension, albeit no panel opening. As a TH-cam influencer, they may let you do a gear test. Your snowshoes are great, there is no new tech in the Evo. The boots are probably warm on day one, but the insulation is difficult to dry. As moisture accumulates everyday, they will turn to two blocks of ice on a cold morning. Use VBL and keep boot opening wide at night. Better are boots with removable insulation that be dried by campfire. Other than clothes and sleeping system, an efficient saw is essential. Winter camping is fun. Looking forward to your winter camping videos.
I was on the fence with the fjallraven kayka and the Osprey aether, seeing this made up my mind. My fjallraven arrived today and I loaded it up and went for a quick 4 hour hike, it's so damn nice!
Fjällräven is the BEST! The Kajka is legit and has saved hikers lives. Their Keb 52/72 is really amazing! :) I have a lot of their reviews on my site. :)
Some nice, new gear! I just upgraded to a dyneema tarp, a chameleon with bug net, and a pair of Hammock Gear 10 degree quilts. Expands my camping to early spring to late fall, and even into some mild winter trips :)
That's a nice kit right there! There's not much you wouldn't be able to do with that. Worst case, you could add a hammock sock and you'd be be good some pretty rough conditions.
I saw you do a hot tent trip with a friend. You got to get into that. I have many nights on snow in Maine with my ti stove and tent. Great base camp , dry clothes and warm retreat. Thanks for the gear display and the helpful knowledge you pass on from your experience. 😊❤️🇺🇸☃️❄️🛷⛺️
Hiking here in the whites often. Hope to cross paths with you one of these days. I post my hikes as videos but nothing like yours. Thanks for the content.
Syntax - Please don't take this as a slam but if you every come back to Colorado don't say you saw a Mar "MOT" when you actually see one or several above treeline in a boulder field. In Colorado, they are called Mar "mitts". Big rodent, squirrel type of critters. Enjoyed your video!
I bought a new pack, REI Traverse, it packs a little weird for what I'm used to and enjoy. That being said, my back wasn't super hot and sweaty so that's good. I upgraded my sleeping bag to a zero degree Big Agnes bag, love it so far. Kept me warm down to single digits. Also just got a warmer Sea to Summit insulated sleeping pad. Very comfy and warm. I'd like a hardshell, never had one of those.
I always enjoy your trips as well as learn something new each video. This old guy is stuck on Osprey 38L (summer) 65L (winter) due to comfort. I enjoy how they ride on my back. I have worked hard at updating my kit and I am happy. A hammock guy here, warbonnet blackbird XLC. I want to do the AT next year, and some week long hikes to prepare this year. Right now I am weighing the options (pun intended) on perhaps a tent. Dyneema sounds great, but at 57 not sure I'll deal well with heavy condensation. I was wondering your take on solo tents, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Dude, so excited!! My favorite Sintax trip format is solo winter - let’s go! I am currently quarantining after a trip to the Phillipines so this is a great pick me up. Backcountry is our go to spot. Incredible inventory! Three things to upgrade for winter: tent, snow shoes and shovel.....
sintax77 Second time there and it’s a beautiful country. We were working on the ground and in the bars with a group rescuing girls out of the sex trade. So the conditions were far from hygiene and I picked something up. Totally worth it!
You think those are old school snow shoes?! What about the "tennis racquets" with strings instead of a solid deck? *That's* old school. And arguably better in wet sticky snow.
Awesome video. My 3 upgrades have a little story behind them After my new year's trip I realized my stove needs to be upgraded. I've always been fine with a small twig stove that doubles as a wind screen and an alcohol stove. It was very cold and I drank most of my water while hiking, so I needed to boil a ton of water. Well this took so long I ran out of fuel my last morning on the trail. My breakfast was lukewarm at best. I also need a dedicated winter pack. Lastly I need some actually water proof boots. I use Neos with surplus wool liners most of winter but swap for trail runners when peak bagging. I need something in between.
Backcountry is really trying to rehab their name by sponsoring friendly and well-received you tubers. No shade on Sintax, excellent vlogger. Backcountry, not so sure, will have to learn more about their lawsuits.
With my backpacking previous post Upgrade part 2 that I did was a underquilt from warbonnet It is Scandinavian -20° Now for the 3rd piece of my upgrade is the Iceman polaric fleece onesie With my winter clothes I have gone down to -67° below zero
Dude when I lived in texas you went and did your tour de Texas, when I went to big bend you hiked it to. Now I've moved to north woods maine and you'll be in the area. Such a small world. I think we were in New Mexico once within a week of eachother. All great hikes.
Good luck with the new gear Sintax ... I recently upgraded my day hiking pack from a Walmart brand to the Osprey Talon 22 . Love it ... my next upgrade is definitely gonna be boots . Any recommendations on a trail runner ? Keep the vids coming - very motivational
Congrats on the Osprey. Those are nice. For trail runners I've always liked Merrel Moab Ventilators and Adidas Terrex Swift R's. I've been through multiple pairs of both over the years.
That pack looks a lot larger than 75 liters. It actually looks bigger than my Hoodlum, which is supposed to be 106L. How do you feel about the wooden stays? Is there a guarantee on them from Fjallraven?
excited to see how the gear works out in the upcoming video. Judging by the clips shown in this video I'm pretty sure I know where you went. Full Loop or partial? or Traverse? The bridge at LW and what appears to be the "ridge" as we call it is a giveaway for those of us familiar with the terrain. I went as vague as possible in the comments not to give anything away ;)
The smaller water proof compartment on the bottom is meant for keeping wet items away from dry stuff in the main compartment. I suppose you could use it anyway you'd like though :)
Dude, congrats on the kickass sponsorship! It's about freakin' time you get some compensation for all the great content you create. Thanks for all you do. Your work gets me through those rough times when I can't get out there myself.
I went back in time for winter none of mu friends want to hike as we get older in snow so we switch to base camping so i got a huge external frame pack lol
Congrats on the winter pemi! Much respect. Spoiler alert - I *kind of* did a winter pemi vibe on my trip video with this gear. ...I can almost guarantee you took a better route, haha.
Last season I went with the Same boots you got. Love them. I upgraded my winter pack from an USMC ILBE to an Osprey Zenith 88 which has been amazing. My third essential will be a new 0 degree underquilt. My 20's can be a tad chilly when it gets down into those temps. Cheers!
Glad to hear that about the boots. They did really well on the trip. No comfort issues either, despite my not breaking them in at before hand like a true genius, haha.
Congratulations on that backcountry sponsorship, that's so awesome!! I love shopping with them, one of my favorite sites for backpacking and climbing gear!
Hi Sintax77, I have watched your videos for years now. Due to the current shutdown with the whole economy I certainly hope you had some time to stock up on food. Might not be the Zombie Apocalypse but something close to it. Anyway best wishes to you and all your family hope all is well with you.
Yeah, I've been eyeballing that one for a while. I would have stolen Danielle Disco's by now, it's the purple women's version. ...still might steal it for a backup though.
Nice Gear! I bought a couple of pieces of gear from Backcountry also back in 2015. They do have good service! btw we still have snow up in my area the U.P. of Michigan. Also as of yesterday we have no confirmed cases for the COVID-19 up here. I'm sure that it will be coming soon. 😢
Hang in there, man. Plenty of snow up in NH last week too, but I stopped outside NYC on the way there so I'll do your state a solid and not come up to Michigan quite yet ;)
I was actually doing the backpacking trip while all that ish was hitting the fan. I came out of the woods after 3 days without cell service, and yeah, I had a lot of catching up to do :o

The right pack, the right footwear, and the right outer layer are very good places to put some money.
I’ve had the fjallraven kajka for over 3 years. Amazing pack and insanely durable
Awesome, that's good to hear. I'm looking forward to putting some years on mine as well.
🥰 Yay, a Sintax video!! Stay safe, healthy, and Congrats on the sponsorship!!

Nice upgrades on your equipment and still the best cinematography on you tube.
Indeed that backpack is a beast 👍 I go with a larger pack in the winter too. 65L to fit more layers and warmer sleeping bag. Great stuff, brother!

Tease! Ha! Can't wait for the new winter video.
I have never heard anyone pronounce Fjallraven the way you do! I’m excited for the next video.

75 liter pack,HELL YEAH!!!That will fit alot of deep winter gear for sure ..hope it all performs well..
Oh, it's a beast all right. I went all in on that :D
Sometimes whem I'm out in 10 degree weather with snow, I feel like my ULA 50 LITER isn't enough..thank god for the clips and outside stretch pocket...

Those snowshoes weight limit is rated at 180 pounds. Do you have any issues do to carrying extra weight in your pack with the MSR?

It'll be out very soon! Lots of snow, summits, wind, and yes - even a bit of freezing rain. ;)
Thanks very much
sintax77 Thanks very much
There’s a great book called Eat The Trees by Lynda Runyon. You can actually make bread out of inner tree bark.
Sounds delicious! hahahahaha

Ha, that solo Texas border road trip was one my all time favorites. Good times :)

I think we could use some good ol Sintax apocalypse preparedness videos right about now ;-)

The smaller water proof compartment on the bottom is meant for keeping wet items away from dry stuff in the main compartment. I suppose you could use it anyway you'd like though :)
That pack looks great! Had you considered Hyperlite Mountain Gear? They have similarly-sized packs that are super robust but under 3lbs
I don't believe I've seen one in person, but I'll have to look into them. Thanks for the heads up! Weight sounds nice too.
that chair you are sitting on looks super cool.... what is it???
Byer of Maine TriLite. Love it.
good video, what is the small chair you were using, it looks handy
Byer of Maine TriLite
Fjallraven is also VERY eco-conscious .
So your going to NH or Maine or Vermont-your ccw is reciprocal in these states-what kind of sidearm do you bring with you?
.380 24/7, occasionally .40 for the woods.
sintax77 which .380?I think I saw you had an LCP in one of your videos. The .40 I’ll bet is a Glock.
Did you recently just sell your Kajka?? Haha im sitting here connecting dots and thinking I just bought your bag. If so, insanely small world.
