    I have the second version with the cast head. I bought it new in 79. It has been on numerous planes. The only thing I have ever done to it is replace the bearings a couple of times and reseat the valves.
    I also made a timer so I could run it on gasoline and 2 stroke oil. 16 to 1 mix. Runs great that way also. It still has the original piston and ring that still has great compression. It is simply delightful engine to run.
    Outside of all my old antique ignition engines from the 30,s and 40's, it is my favorite glow engine. It has about the same power as my Anderson Spitfires on a 14-6 prop.
    Thanks for the great video.

    I never tire of seeing those old vintage engines run. A true testament to the commitment that O. S. was making to producing some of the most user friendly engines on the market. And it runs so quietly that you could run it in your own yard like you used to do.

    I got my mk1 out of the box recently, and after 47 years in its box, ran it in and flew it a bit later that day on a Tom Boy. Flew a few flights, then put the mk3 OS 60 back in, the mk1 being oiled and put back in its box.

    I got lucky and bought one of these at an estate sale. It appears to be brand new and never seen fuel. The serial # on the side is difficult to read but looks to be 20207. Any idea what year this engine was born? It's a thing of beauty.

      No but I do know the lower the number the older and more valuable the engine is.

    I can't get over the fact of how quiet this is, even at high revs, perfect 1 cylinder for an old timer slow flyer.

      Those early four strokes tend to have softer valve timings and are more optimized on torque. So they develop their maximum power at 8000-9000 RPM or something like that, compared to the more modern OS surpass which are designed to have significantly more power but need to turn in excess of 10000 RPM to archive that.
      Also the since the exhaust valve opens more slowly, the pressure spike in the exhaust isn't that big and therefore the sound not that loud.
      Many years ago I had the pleasure to listen to a Kalt FC-1. 7.5cc four stroke, less power than a modern 4cc two stroke. But really quiet without any muffler.

      @@VintageTechFan Wow man, don't know why youtube never gave me notification of your replay, just saw it by chance just now! Well you just read my mind, I love the kalt FC-1 engine, have over the years collected a few, one used and new in box, keeping those for display. Just recently won a bid on ebay for a collection of os engines, one of them was a NIB os fs 60 MK1, From the pics the seller sent me, it looked to have never been run, not even mounted. I have yet to get it. I also own 2 NIB MK 2, my fav. When an engine is made so good, its hard to just have one of :-). The fs 60 is an absolute jewel, yes, its purposely made for that sweet sweet scale sound and low rev, high torque, LOVE IT. Last yr I was lucky to get my hands on a NIB OS IL 300, now that is a beauty as well!

    It has a very unique sound...They have definitely come a long was since then. Was it coming from that little hole in the carb?

    • @dmrcflyr2
      @dmrcflyr2  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes excess oil was being pushed out through the airbleed hole in the carb and the o-ring seal at the manifold

  • @harveynewman4333
    @harveynewman4333 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    you can add after run oil thru rear cam housing cap.

    • @dmrcflyr2
      @dmrcflyr2  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, I have done that. My biggest concern is how is the excess oil during operation supposed to go besides the path of least resistance. I think that is why I saw so much coming out the carb area.

  • @harveynewman4333
    @harveynewman4333 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    does oil come up through lifters? mk II version has nipple. maybe thru front bearing?

  • @8ackbar
    @8ackbar 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Without a CC vent, I wonder where the oil goes? mabe through the lifters?

    • @dmrcflyr2
      @dmrcflyr2  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well some was coming out from the carb. What I thought was fuel was actually oil coming out. Not a good thing to not have a vent for the excess oil.
