I knew speedos make stellar bait, never thought to eat, you've eaten several types of baitfish and other so-called trash fish doing an excellent job of breaking the bad rep and stigma given to these species. One of the best original concepts lately, and this recipe is killer, makin' me drool, until next time, tight lines & good vibes
I like deermeatfordinner, BUT I love your channel. The energy and information you provide isn’t bias whatsoever and you are always having a great time doing what you do! Keep it up! I would very much like to see a stingray catch clean and cook to be honest!
Aloha Viktor, Here in Hawai'i we call them 'Opelu and they are considered a delicacy as well as the best live bait you can find. They work great for Ono (Wahoo), Mahimahi (Dorado), Kahala (Amber Jack), and Ulua (Giant Trevally). I LOVE this fish fried up whole or made into poke and eaten raw of course. If I ever retire to SW Florida (can't afford to retire on my home island anymore) it's good to know many of my favorite eating fish (Opelu, Moi, Akule, Aku, etc.) are all available and plentiful there. PS. Viktor I challenge you to catch and eat what we call Nenue but known there as Bermuda Chub BUT prepare it island style by making it into (raw) poke like we serve it here. Most popular poke fish of native Hawaiians. They are actually great fighters on light spinning tackle too.
No forget uncle, Big Uku (grey snapper) like to rap live opelu hovered off the bottom too. Ive taken some mondo ukus off maui's south side... makena pinacles.
I've eaten them... tasty. But i like to turn them into Ono, mahi or uku. It like magic, Catch opelu on damashi, put live opelu on hook. Get mahi, ono, uku somtimes ahi. Magic. :)
Speedo's and Tinker Mackeral(Boston Mack) were my favorite kite live bait as well as live bait in general. Stay alive in a round live well, pretty well, pretty hearty bait. Great cut bait for bottom fish, great bait to brine for trolling. I used those baits over mullet as trollers. Ballyhoo are great baits, but those days when you want a bigger bait, here you go. Cheap as well.
I live in Thailand and the fish sauce is used as salt here you can’t really get salt at a Thai restaurant just the fish sauce. Love the catch and cooks and I can’t wait for the next one
They look very similar to mackerel. Mackerel are AMAZING smoked, grilled on the BBQ or pickled in lemon juice. We catch them on feathers in the UK and can catch as many as 10 on one line, sometimes even two fish on one hook 😀 great fun to catch and great to eat. Keep on eating and teaching 👍👍
Love the CCC videos-especially “trash” fish. Your tartare was really more of a poke. And dude you’re KILLING ME with all the cilantro! That stuff is VILE!!
if you use starch instead of flour you get a very crispy batter. You could also use flour and starch in equal proportions and still get a crispy batter. Starch makes the batter crispy. Any type of starch will do. I enjoy your fishing as well as your and Brooke's cooking. Sengyan Too in Canada
these are related to Opelu (mackerel scad) and Akule (bigeye scad) which are really popular food fish in hawaii. I like them fried whole or as sashimi. I'm really surprised to watch Florida fishing videos since you guys have a lot of the same/similar species as we do. A lot of fish that Florida fisherman turn their noes up to are considered really good eating in Hawaii. Different strokes for different folks i guess haha.
here in the Philippines the round scad which is very similar is a common table fare....deep fried, butterflied and air dried or salted and used for cooking with vegetables and also used in soups with glass noodles and assorted vegetables.....other types of cuisine with scad and similar fish species is stewed in soy sauce or steamed with pickled vegetables and ginger in vinegar......bon appetit
Hey you guys...you could try a catch n' cook Atlantic Threadfin (glass nose) and croakers catch them on the beach....scale & clean them up...fry them whole....or fillet the big ones. Serve them with escovitch sauce with bread, soft tacos, fried bammies or festivals ....delicious!!
we have a fish species called koheru in nz and it is said to be the most difficult fish to catch because they r insanely picky but at the same time it is the most effective live/dead bait of all haha and apparently the flesh is the same as the tuna too
G’day Viktor, great job with the video as always buddy, thanks for the content. Have you tried making a dukkah crumb for your fish? It would be great to see you guys do a catch, clean and cook on the pier sometime. Are you allowed to cook on the pier in the states? Best wishes for continued success to you, Brook and the landshark crew! 🎣
I'd definitely love to see you guys try the pinfish, you'll never regret it.... it's one of my favorite eating bait Fish... or you can try the remora, it's great for grilling..... let me know if you need tips on how to prepare that sucker.
When you make tempura batter, you want the liquids in the batter to be very cold. When you put the really cold batter into really hot oil, the batter starts to bubble and look like how tempura looks like with the bumps on the coating.
Do a land fishing video and take ingredients with you to make some ceviche on the spot. Nothing like fresh ceviche on the spot while fishing. Or even take out your kayak.
You know bro, we called it "galonggung" in the Philippines and it is in the market everyday. IT IS DELICIOUS ESPECIALLY WHEN U DEEP FRIED IT .BY THE WAY WE DO NOT EAT IT RAW LIKE WHAT U DID.
You should try and gut the fish and then fry the whole fish. Rhen for a dipping sauce all you would nee is soy sauce and chili peppers. I'm from Hawaii and we try to use every part of the fish except the guts. In Hawaii they are called opelu!
In Japan they eat them whole butt grilled and I’m Japanese and live in Florida but my grandma whenever she makes it for us when we go over to her house she always asks us to catch some fresh and they are the best tasting fish on the grill was a little soi
Have you tried Ballyhoo, and I'm not joking. It's really good. I cut the heads off and fry them whole. One winter I was cast netting a lot of them. I would do it again in a heartbeat. So tasty like Great Lakes Smelt.
Hey Victor I was wondering if you knew about the "Show us your steak" challenge? Haze outdoors started it to bring awareness to mens mental health. I really like all of ur catch and cook videos and I think u should do it. I don't have a channel but I want to "tag" u anyway. Hopefully with your large following you can bring awareness to this subject.
Sea robin catch and cook I'm from new jersey we catch alot of them fishing for fluke and everyone calls them trash I'm sure you can cook up something nice
You should try a google eye catch and cook. You just ate a fish in Hawaii called opelu, and google eye in Hawaii is called akule. Both fish is very good to eat.

ImSecta they taste really good they are a bit chewy but besides that I love them

I’m from Mexico and I’d
never seen such a big avocado. Love your content and the effort your doing to teach there are other food options!
Reminds me of Mackerel from the Pacific. Thanks for the video, and showing others how little fish can be just as great to eat as the big fish!
I live in Thailand and the fish sauce is used as salt here you can’t really get salt at a Thai restaurant just the fish sauce. Love the catch and cooks and I can’t wait for the next one
