So the 7 or 10 pin refers to the main control cable that runs to the motor which is why your trim still works.. The trim/tilt at the control are for the gauge if you have on on the dash. (At least that is my understanding of those spare wires) I sort of learned all this the hardware when someone offered to make me a really good deal on a "new" but old stock Yamaha 703. I did not ask the right questions it seems... Turns out it was the 7pin... I ended up getting a 10 pin from ebay anyway.
