    I am confused though (hope next time i get a better access to the answer), if COST is translated mostly as the "Willingness to Pay" from the patient's perspective - and by having better outcome means patients would be needing less service, how is then this could be seen by private sector's health care service as an advantage? I mean, in term of seeing this from a government/public sector point a view - yes cost reduction (how much money being spent per patient's treatment) would mean efficiency, but if it is being seen by private hospital, for example, when the patient no longer required service due to having better outcome - then it would be a Lost for them.
    *Hope next time HBS can upload more video on healthcare topic.
    thank you.

      First, I suspect that the market (suppliers: Hospitals, providers, clinics, etc.) will "adjust" to reflect the number of services that are required. In other words, if less healthcare is needed, there will be fewer healthcare providers. Some argue that our system has too few providers, so less need for healthcare could help alleviate the mismatch between what's needed and what's available to fulfill that need. Second, I also suspect that there will always be "new" entrants into the healthcare system--people who need healthcare. After all, none of the value-based discussion says everyone gets cured forever from whatever ails them, only that the system will be focused on delivering value to the consumer in the form of better-coordinated care that provides better outcomes than fragmented care systems that often result in multiple visits.

      A definite issue with this is in inducing the willingness to pay more. People can't give a payment on advance for a well performed heart surgery for giving them more quality life years than a bad one. Many people make the choice of cheap and easy but bad for toi on the long term over the opposite (in eating habits, exercise) every day.

    This is absolutely ridiculous
    A 4th stage cancer patient will never be happy with any outcome as doctors have no clue on what to do and patient will eventually die.. So how do u measure outcomes?

    We have placed physicians in such a cage they cannot deliver value. The surgeon who did the myomectomy has not delivered any value until the nurses on the ward has managed the ward care effectively for optimum period.

    does not understand patients - lumping patients into categories i.e., create total cost of care for hip replacement from surgery to rehab -- some people do not want pain meds, other are oxycodone addicted by this - others are better healers, better overall condition, better comorbildities, etc - has limited vision of the complexities of medicine.

      I feel like a large part of the success of value-based health care is the compliance and participation of the patient. What if they are non-compliant?

    • @sirblankenship
      @sirblankenship 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well its a economic person. Ofcourse he doesnt get all that, he has good points though, think we can learn from that. And I think if they are non-compliant that is just a little group. Give them different help. As he said, focus on the general not the exception.

    a 1 hour and 8 minuets of wishful thinking. the amount of investment to measure, track, benchmark and standardized healthcare is way more expensive than the current inflation in healthcare. the very idea of value based care is anti-profit and almost anti-capitalism.
