Nice to see a video of someone working with basic tools. Having a fancy worksop is nice but it doesn't really help the newbies out any. Videos like this show them they can get it done themselves.
Beautiful work. i watched this to get an idea of how to make my own knife. I cant understand how someone could watch a video of someone making a beautiful folding knife out of nothing and still down vote this... Those people must lead very sad empty lives
amazing man!!! You are great! I love this video... Now I know what I gonna do! thanks again for sharing your fantastic idea!...is simple but powerful. Saluti da Milano - Italy
Beautiful. I just finished making a camping knife from a saw blade, and that was painful enough with my limited tools. Would love to try to make one of these when I get my workshop back up and running.
lol, wish I had watched this before making mine, it was literally done the exact same way I had made mine, except I used wood for the handle Thanks for the great video!
Great job dude, i see your vise has a broken internal nut like mine does, use screwdriver to pry vise open. Thanks for showing that guys with smaller shops can turn out quality projects to...
Fucking AWESOME! I am just getting into knife making and love folding knives. I didn’t think I’d be able to make one but this proved me wrong. Beautiful knife, cool design and amazing video!
Hi, very nice job! i wish to ask about de difference of micarta vs g10 or another tipe of handle materials, my curiosity is: micarta gives a different texture feeling that another materials? maybe better grip? or its just a matter of decoration, makinfg a fairly unique piece, and second, wich finish should apply on a micarta handle? thank you very much!
Great questions. Micarta it mainly for the design elements. If made properly it can be polished to a high gloss finish. Many times G10 comes with a textured finish for better grip
Nice project. Next time, design your blade's tang with a kick which will prevent the sharpened blade area from coming in contact with your lock/release mechanism. Since that does not exist on this knife and the blade does come in contact, take a piece of marlin long enough to fill the area and press it inside and oil it lightly. This will protect the blade from impact and help keep it sharp.
Nice medium sized folder you made there, good job with the disc grinder. I noticed you used the Ryobi 4" belt sander on the initial scale sanding, you should use it for the blade sanding too. I use mine with a jig and it works a treat. Take the plastic side panel off the belt sanding section and you can get close in to the edge of the belt for normal plundge lines. Tip: You can use 2" belts on it also (larger range of grit sizes and cheaper) if you run them to 1 side of the platen. Keep the videos coming.
Great info. I already modified the 4 in sander so I could use a jig and do plunge bevels th-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=1D_euTrQ84A Also built a 2x72. Still quite a bit to learn. Appreciate any and all input
Homemade with scrap material but it moves a lot of material. I am just a beginner but having a few of the right tools make a huge difference in quality of end product.
Great video. I’m researching folders before trying one for the first time myself. Does the blade pivot ok without any washers? For the pivot rod, it’s just 1/4” solid round stock peened over?
Into making a blade myself and scavenging info from here and there. Great video! very informative and useful for the purpose I'm looking for, particularly on how to work with steel plates correctly. Anyway, as a non english speaker I have a question to ask: where is this accent from and why do I think this is the most perfect, balanced and clear of the accents I've been hearing all along? is it just the accent or is he very articulate? sounds north eastern american (NJ?) to me but I ain't able to pin point yet with my current skills. The way some of the vowels curl sometimes strikes to me as british every now and then.
My friend and I designed and now use the Tilt Table as a bevel jig. It has improved my bevels 100% overnight. Check out this video i did. th-cam.com/video/1k5ekoAJ2ZA/w-d-xo.html
Great video and very informative. Only thing I would personally do differently is make the liners from stainless steel instead of 1095 just to prevent corrosion and add to the longevity of the knife
Great video. You do great work considering the very basic tools involved. Could you share more information on your beveling jig? I built a sander that uses 2" X 72" belts that I use to make fixed blade knives. I freehand them and have gotten pretty good. However, a jig is just so much easier and more consistent. Thank you for the video.
Will do. The jig Im using now was just a quick build out of angle iron and a 1/2 inch bolt. Will put video together when I make a new one. Im just looking into building a 2x72 sander. Love to see what you built. Any suggestions would be appreciated. You can post images of anything you make on my facebook group facebook.com/groups/1668357033451028/
Nice work. You should look at some screw type pins. They have a treaded female pin type “nut” and a machine screw head. Yiu can get flush or rounded, with different driver types. This will allow you to have a serviceable blade. Nothing worse than a folder that you cant take apart and service.
is that legal what if I wanted to replica the cold steel tri ad lock and did so successfully would it be legal to do so if I made slight differences like the spring holding the lock in place when it's locked up or the shape of the overall knife handle and knife. just wondering because some locks are patented
better late response, than no response :) when I made spring for my knife, I took a carpet knife blade and cut from it a piece that would fit my design. Then I removed the heat treatment from it, so I could bend it to the shape I wanted, and heat treated it again so it acted like a spring. However, the spring load isn't that heavy, and I think if I had managed to find something like 0.5mm thicker it would be perfect. Next time I will probably try something else, but it works fine for now
Classic you say tomato and I say tomato. You are correct they are called angle grinders but do a quick search on google for a disc grinder. You will find the very same item.
Never made up plans or templates for this build. Just took apart a cheep knife and used traced the folding components. Then drew the blade and handle that I wants. Wish I knew how popular this build was going to be I would have spent more time documenting it.
This is probably one of the best teaching videos I have seen on making a folding knife. Thank you.

Question, what was the spring made from? You detailed the thickness of the steel, but what did you use for the internal spring? Thanks!
3:18 "Has to SHIT perfectly" lmao
When you close the knife blade, what keeps the blade from hitting the other parts of the knife which would render it dull?

How can I fix the locking mechanism on my folding knife? If I hold the knife with the bleed facing down the bleachers fools out the handle
I love that blue wood color
love the craft paper scales neat idea

Do the liners and locking plate need to be 1095, or is lesser hardenable steel ok?
you should make your bench out of 2 "x 4" with posts for legs
also just imagine how much A Demko put into inventing this knife !
Great video and very informative. Only thing I would personally do differently is make the liners from stainless steel instead of 1095 just to prevent corrosion and add to the longevity of the knife
Don't ever do that. There will be a galvanic reaction between the stainless and the plain steels. It'll literally eat itself away.
Nice work.
I noticed you needed a screwdriver to open the jaws of your vise. Do you need one that works right?
My spring just bends, I’ve tried hardening it but it still just bends, what do I do?
Way cool mate. Wayne
Can you pl share some advice about grinding the bevel on the blade? I suppose it is different from a fixed-blade knife?
good work , I make same style . It is strong and you have a long time fun. 🤪👍

hi very nice knife and i liked it as it was step by step how to make one i will make one
You sound like a teenager, but your hands tells another story.
What did you use for the spring
Nice work. You should look at some screw type pins. They have a treaded female pin type “nut” and a machine screw head. Yiu can get flush or rounded, with different driver types. This will allow you to have a serviceable blade. Nothing worse than a folder that you cant take apart and service.
Impressive work.
never tried it but I wonder how a windshield wipers would work for a spring.
blevinski blevinski that would open and close the blade with a twist of the handle!
is that legal what if I wanted to replica the cold steel tri ad lock and did so successfully would it be legal to do so if I made slight differences like the spring holding the lock in place when it's locked up or the shape of the overall knife handle and knife. just wondering because some locks are patented
So you didn’t do the “spring” ? That’s what I wanted to know.
you can use a stiff piece of plastic or an hardened piece of metal
better late response, than no response :) when I made spring for my knife, I took a carpet knife blade and cut from it a piece that would fit my design. Then I removed the heat treatment from it, so I could bend it to the shape I wanted, and heat treated it again so it acted like a spring. What did u use as a spring
Beautiful and easy making knife.
However, where did you get springsteel from, ad how did you make it??
Regards Donald from Denmark
The springsteel came from the cheep knife I took apart.
Just stop at an auto shop where they repair cars, they need to get rid of the old springs and they're perfect for making knives, swords, etc.
hows about a piece of a twanger off of an old timey leaf rake?
Can you put your knife in a kitchen oven for the heat treatment?
No heat treating requires bringing the blade to critical temp. Depending on the steel 1500-2000 degrees. You need a forge or torches.
Okay thanks.
Great build - would like to see more on scales manufacturing techniques- spring part was sourced from ? - cheers
Great job !
ware can i get the spring? i think he used the one from the donor knife.
I think steel banding would work to make the spring
Amazing work!
Buenas soy de colombia pregunto tienen las plantillas de las piesas para poder descargarlas ??? Seria bueno que dieran esta opcion
How does the knife holds together. Did you use screw?
Is there a reason you used 1095 for the liners and other parts or could you have used mild steel?
Very nice , I"ll try make
nice video, thank you. very informative.
Troyag excellent! hands then gold hands!
That was awesome!
Good video thanks for sharing
Do you have a digital blueprint for this, I would like to try making this. Do you have a link to where you got the steel?
good video but for the love of god it's called an angle grinder... a disc grinder is what you have on your 1inch belt sander
Classic you say tomato and I say tomato. You are correct they are called angle grinders but do a quick search on google for a disc grinder. You will find the very same item.
Its an angle grinder
And you can search dril or belt grinder and it will bring up angle grinders
You are correct
not when I search.
Amazing
Where did you get the main spring?
salvaged it from the cheep knife I took apart.
cool process
Where did you get that big 1095 steel plate at the beginning?
Top👍
Nice Love it
Amazing!!
That would be non magnetic when you heat the 1095 to the proper temp before you quench it in oil.
Slip of the tongue. Thank you for the heads up. Will make correction with a text overlay
can you make a page for that blue print to i can kinda copy it because it looks cool @DIYeasycrafts
nice work
Can I please come work with you
Sir good job.......
good stuff
Thanks man
cool. fyi your link to the project is dead
Thanks for the heads up. Just fixed the link

oh shit now I have to try to change the way I talk. LOL

is there a template for this knife ?
