  • Half Dome 2024. Reserved permits for camping in Little Yosemite Valley which is eligible for Half Dome Cables. You must pick up your permit in person and pay the extra $10 per person for the cables. This is an alternate to the lottery and fairly simple to acquire if you are quick on Recreation.gov.
We did use Black Diamond harnesses however only on the descent and had them mainly for peace of mind. Using only one carabiner and a doubled over lanyard as opposed to a via ferrata system.
    Filmed on DJI Action 4.

Late start up the cables ? Not a good place to down climb in the dark. But you kept up a decent pace. Congrats!😊

We started about 2:30-3 so yeah a little late but we had plenty of daylight left. You’re right though, would not want to descend at night. There were a few people staying up there for sunset. No thanks lol

@@MCAdventures23 I guess it’s a good crowd-avoidance technique. If you want to haul over nite gear to Little Yosemite camp then you could

11:40 notice that loose pole? That’s where Gina B likely fell on 6/6/2009. The weather changed and there was a snow storm. That loose pole contributed to her loosing her footing and she fell, but was stopped by an 8-inch ledge. She was severely injured but survived.

some of the poles are loose and i would grab one and shake it to make sure it was all the way in. i've heard accounts of people pulling the post out of the rock by accident as well. the rock is definitely slick in some areas even in dry weather with good shoes. ensuring you have 3 points of contact, and everything is solid before traversing is a good best practice.

@@MCAdventures23 Great tip! Another thing too is to check your soles and clear away any mud or dirt so that the rubber is clean and can grip the rock better. I also read that spraying isopropyl alcohol on the rubber of your shoes increases tackiness, but haven’t tested it out.

Thanks for the video. Amazing. Your girl is beautiful. Better hold onto her off the rock as well.

Very nice! I plan to go next year. What do you mean by the camping permit being an alternative to the cable lottery? I thought they were completely separate things, as in the camping permit is one thing and you still need to register for the cable permit lottery. Btw I’m still waiting for the camping spots to be released. Do you know how many months in advance they release them?
Smart of you to wear a safety line in case the weather turns or some people above become a risk btw! I’ll do the same. By double lanyard do you mean one of those those lines with multiple loops on them?

if you are able to get a camping permit in LYV, you can add half dome when you arrive in Yosemite at the ranger station. you need to pick up your camping permit and then it's $10 per person to add half dome. The LYV camping permits are tough to get but if you time the release just right, you'll be successful.
from recreation.gov "Half Dome is available with this trailhead. All members on the permit are eligible to walk up Half Dome. An additional fee of $10 per person is due when permit is issued." Trailhead would be Happy Isles->Little Yosemite Valley (No Donohue Pass). You can also select Glacier Point->Little Yosemite Valley and half dome permits are available for that trailhead as well.
What i meant with doubled over lanyard is a single lanyard looped through your harness with both ends in the carabiner that you would then hook and unhook to the cables as needed. The via ferrata method has two carabiners so you are always hooked in when switching past posts. hope that helps.

@@MCAdventures23 Ahh.. got it. Thank you for the clarification. Pretty practical solution (and more affordable than the via ferrata!)
