With fresh snow on the ground and open water early winter photography conditions in the Canadian Rockies are hard to beat. In this video I visit Lake Louise, Peyto Lake and Quarry Lake to take advantage of this short period of optimal weather.

Wow thanks for all the beautiful videos. I found this is the most resourceful channel anybody visiting Banff national park, specially for photographers. I am planning to visit Banff in 2024 mid September to catch larch season. Any tips you can provide me to get better pictures on Larch Valley and about Payto lake is it better on sunrise or sunset? Really appreciate your feedback.

Peyto lake I would say is better at sunrise but in all honesty is great at most times of the day. As the sun comes up it will get bluer!
As for larch trees you really just need to keep getting out there. The window of best colour is probably just a week or two so get out and hike a lot!

I think the Canadian Rockies are probably the most beautiful with snow. But, they were also beautiful in the Fall when I was there. It was so bright that I didn't use a tripod at Peyto Lake, but one of the things I noticed is that the viewing platform vibrates every time someone walked by. Somehow I missed going into a Tim Hortons which I meant to do. Guess I'll have to go back some day.

I would have to agree, this time of year is perfect. Fresh snow and open water is the best! Fall is also a great time of year so I think you chose a good time to visit. I didn't even set up a tripod in the end but you make a great point!

You had such great conditions - it's always so beautiful when it's sunny with the fresh snow. We were at all the lookout points around Peyto lake in summer - trying to get away from the crowds on the platform. Always wondered how pretty it must be with snow and thanks to you now we know 😉 We only spent one day in Banff on our vacation, driving from Jasper to Yoho but it was still great. If you'd like you can take a look at our video vlog from that day. Not beautiful photography like yours but it was a fun day and it's nice to see the places in different weather conditions 😁 th-cam.com/video/LzjfpQ8mc5I/w-d-xo.html

I'll check it out! There isnt a bad time of year to visit Banff really. And the drive you did takes in some of the best sights that's for sure!
