Why is the vet in this story so incredibly incompetent? I have lived in a country where rabies is endemic, and even lay people there are wary of animals which behave strangely. Even a British vet should have been familiar with the symptoms, especially the avoidance of water.
@@lynn5050 Ridiculous. Back when? The play dates from 1976, and mentions a localised UK outbreak that I personally remember from the 1960s. Rabies even features in To Kill a Mockingbird (based upon events in the 1930s). A vaccine had been available since 1885. Rabies is endemic in just about every country except the UK and is one of the main reasons for our animal quarantining. So I repeat my criticism: what sort of competent vet could not be aware of the unique symptoms of rabies? After all, I am not a vet nor a farm-worker, but I know the symptoms of foot & mouth disease, simply from watching TV coverage of the last disastrous outbreak.
Great story thanks
THANK YOU SO MUCH for providing a synopsis of the story, wonderful 💚❤️💚
30 minutes in...good story, excellent actors..enjoying.. many thanks ❤
This must have been a long time ago when rabies was spreading
It's fiction, Ken Follet wrote, I'm guessing the 50s? 😊❤ terrifying story though!
Missing the end 😢
Seemed to be ok to me
ENDS ABRUPTLY BEFORE REVEALING THE OUTCOME 😡😡😡

You're making it sound like a conspiracy.
@@tuxedomask7071 Haha, that was Follett's bread & butter..
This play was not done in 2024! People didn't have the same knowledge back then!

What about the rabid voles not culled?
A terrific listen but then ... the ending is cut off.
I was scrolling through YT, not paying much attention, when I heard the opening of this video.
