    There is *so* much to love about this project: the ingenuity and practicality; the way you matched the trim on the skirt to the cape; and the brush trim on the bottom to keep the hem clean of bicycle oil and mud. This is very well done, thank you for sharing.

    Lovely outfit. Keeping a journal with scraps, sketches and ideas not yet solidified helps to focus on the end product. In sorting through my fabrics, I came across an old journal from when my daughters were school age. My current journal now has updated sketches with different fabric swatches. I think my average is one completion per a thousand drawings. ♥️ Our cat loves to knock over my thread spools from my table. (He has about a dozen cat toys.) He's great company 🐈.

    It's also wonderful seeing you wearing it.Well done, as I know you didn't feel comfy modelling for us. Your singer seems to be crying though. Even my creative assistant just woke up from his sleep and looked painfully at my speaker with questioning eyes.

    A couple of drops of sewing machine oil or a tiny bit of Vaseline on the spots on the treadle irons where metal moves against metal will help them move more easily and smoothly. I offer that suggestion because it took me a while to learn that, and then I was astounded by how much less effort it took to treadle.

    Gorgeous project, gorgeous vintage, gorgeous outfit, these clothes really are ‘you’ and I loved the bit with your lunch appearing and then disappearing, that caught me unawares and made me laugh out loud, you have a wicked sense of humour.
    That material you used is beautiful, it looks like very fine wool? Did you happen to spot the Bikes and Bloomers site about The Suffrage movement - what they had to put up with! Now we just get abuse hurled at us over the net instead 🤬🖕🏻🤬 although it’s a lot safer it’s still a bloody liberty - as we say in Britland.
    Anyway, these vlogs are getting very professional - I really love the sound of cutting, needle travelling through fabric, the way you’re shooting these in natural light is so lovely, very Vermeer so that’s another skill you’re learning. Cat! My bloody Collie turns up and puts his head in my lap - on top of whatever it is I’m doing, on a settee he just sit on me, thinks he’s a cat lol! ( I adore him really)
    I really enjoyed this, I think it’s your best yet, thank you for taking the time to make it. ✌🏻✌🏻🌹🌹🌹🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

      It’s not really an article, it points you to a book but it looks really interesting. If you fancy watching real Edwardians doing their thing there’s a lovely Documentary on TH-cam called ‘Electric Edwardians’ The Films of Mitchell and Kenyan on a channel called nitramgnal. They were originally a BBC2 series that show very short period films - real life costuming idea’s!
      My Collie too is very,very nervous. It’s the price you pay with Border Collies, incredibly bright but totally neurotic! Love animals 💕💕❤️❤️❤️ (I’m an introvert -yes really Lol - so rather more than most people😉🤭🤫)

    What an ingenious garment! Thank you for sharing this project. Also, thank you for your recent video on your 3 favorite hand stitches. I'd never seen the rolled hem technique before. The blind stitch is my go-to for finishing hems and is very similar so I tried the rolled hem technique for the first time yesterday. I was astonished at what a difference it made! Not only are the stitches nearly invisible, but having to fold the fabric only once makes the work go so much faster. Thanks again!

    This is an absolutely FASCINATING pattern! I've never seen the like! I've only ever seen bicycling bloomers. But of course, some women would feel more comfortable in skirts. Just very very very cool. Also, I see why your most recent video is on oiling your poor lil' machine! :)

    I’ve been wanting to try a thimble like that for “spoon” quilting, to use the ridge of the thimble instead of a spoon. Couldn’t figure out what to call it to even search for one. Thank you!

    I love this skirt, I have so many questions. First I am most envious of your button hole stitch. A stitch I struggle with, and yours are so neat and tidy. Did you use buttonhole to secure the hooks and eyes? About the elastic drawstrings, would they had been put on the inside of the skirt? And did you need help with the back one? Also could you go into more detail on how you made the ribbon flowers? I really loved that.

    This is great. Love the trimming at the hem! My bust is a lot like yours. What type of corset or foundation are you wearing to get that silhouette?

    • @JuulThijssen
      @JuulThijssen  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm not wearing appropriate underthings in this video, I only have on a modern underwire bra, a woollen camisole and my combinations. I was just too lazy to put on my victorian corset but I think the outfit would greatly benefit from one!

    I'm now thinking that Victorian TH-cam has laid claim on me. First, it's Bernadette Banner with her Modern Edwardian skirt and bust bodice, then on to her Morgan Donner and Rachel Masky hair collaboration and now you with this amazing garment.
    (All of which I am ever so greatful for having happen to me.)

    Mooie rok en dat lint aan de onderkant. Toen ik het je zag maken dacht ik wat leuk en niet heel ingewikkeld, maar bij het eindresultaat wat een geweldig effect en dan ziet het er heel ingewikkeld uit. Bedankt weer voor je vid.
    ps: weer zo'n leuke pagina in je "journal"

    I've wanted to try this pattern, then stumbled across your video by accident. It's nice to watch someone else put it together first :) I watched a talk where Kat Jungnickel said the cord sometimes snapped. Have you found that?

    Beautifully made once again. I do enjoy your vlogs, especially the absence of music. The sounds of the sewing tools are comforting somehow, but may I recommend the use of WD40 for the sewing machine!

    Juul, your videos are so inspiring! Thank you for sharing your creative process! I'm curious about the blouse/shirtwaist you're wearing at the beginning of this video, the sleeve construction in particular...is this an antique garment or one of your own sewing projects (is there a pattern available)?

    • @JuulThijssen
      @JuulThijssen  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Love your videos!!!
    From the Secret Santa, I know you knit. By any chance, did you knit the sweater you showed in the beginning? If so, what was the pattern you used?
    Whilst I'm asking, what pattern did you use for the capelet?
    I also am a larger size and very tall (very Brunhilde-esque), so it's nice to see Victorian fashions on a woman of similar size.

    • @JuulThijssen
      @JuulThijssen  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      JoAnna The Singer I think your captions were turned off (I should mention it at the beginning of the video) but the sweater is from H&M and the capelet is an original antique piece!
