New Cat D9 Dozer Replaces D9T: New Torque Converter, Lower Maintenance Costs

Cat has replaced the D9T with the new D9. As a next generation dozer, there are some foundational changes to the structure of this machine to discuss, but most of what's new focuses on reducing O&O costs, including a new torque converter and maintenance improvements.

IH has had power to both tracks since 1947 in the TD 24, only took cat 40 years to figure it out, Komatsu has had lockup converters for a long time also,wish cat would have concentrated on those inventions instead of all the electronic stuff that never works.

D8L became the D9N with undercarriage extended to the rear to lenghthen track on the ground to counteract the light front end .horsepower from. The 3408 was increased from 335 Hp to 370 hp .undercarriage was also improved with track pitch increases from D8K sized links to D9L size.

Looks very nice , ladder is a cool addition . Horsepower could've been boosted to 500 , IMHO . I operate 825K compactor that came with 438 HP , and it's lighter than D9 by 30K pounds .

For the last 21 years I have been pushing crushed rock stock piles at 2400 tons per hour. First dozer was a D9R. Best freaking D9 ever, 600 + hp with the heads that were on it. Then we went to the D9t. Hated it but only because of aluminum wiring harnesses and it was too freaking light. I’m getting my 5th new dozer next month. A D9 that is as heavy as the R model is good, with copper wiring is good. With 500 hp would be good !

Never heard of a 600hp D 9R, the D 9 L was at 460 hp and had the 3412 V12 engine, D 9 Rs had the 3408 V 8 engine at around 405 hp and I don't think the new ones will be anywhere near 500 hp, as they are in the 400+ hp and 50 ton class of machine.

Cat machine are most powerful and relabel. The good part of the machine are automatic.
