If you see the series he did in the very late 50s, and this series in the early 70s, you can see the difference. The former he is very stiff, and here he is comfortable in his own skin, where he was probably the most content he ever was...

Yes, sometimes. He also would be doing Japanese calligraphy on paper. This video was the last he did, I believe. The others done during this time were done upon the Vallejo, an old river boat he lived on in Sausalito in the San Francisco Bay. iTunes has both series for sale...

I was born. I was a 10 year old girl. I found Alan when I was 21 years old. I'm nearly 60 now!

for me, as a Japanese, its a great thing to see that he loved Japanese culture "tea ceremony" and he uses "Sado" stuff in this film.
I considered him as a zen master even though he never claimed to be.
I got a sense of he is really got something that that I cannot pinpoint exactly what it is but I got awoken thought of like listening to a western teaching a Dharma.
I appreciate and respect him from the bottom of my heart.

That's a spectacular camera quality
All film is higher quality than 1080p, what happens is two things. Film physically degrades, making it lower quality and once its convered into a digital format, the file degrades a little bit everytime the data is copied. Old videos look bad because of degradation, not because they couldnt film in high quality.

He is a vessel with a message in his timeframe of the universe, as which we all are. Its shocking to wake up but its extremely hard what to do with it once its made clear. This is the ultimate awakening prosses and it frightens most. Sir Alan Watts is an absolute genius because he captivated emotions with language for all of us to understand. That would break the conditioning required to keep the modern world running. If people realised how little their frantic efforts achieved, civilisation would just stop on a dime.
The world doesn't want that on a large scale. I'm not saying we don't want that, but the rulers would be out of jobs.

Alan Watts, I wish I could have spent a day with you just staring at the flowers together. Thank you for making everything okay again. I think it would have been truly amazing if we could have had a conversation together with you as an adult and me as a 5 year old.
I'm 43 years old and I finally decided just to listen to Alan Watts when I was ready I grew up in Christianity being a Catholic I still have love for my rosary because it's very simple but I love just the state of being
That was excellent, as when I go into my local woods alone for five nights I am as if looking into a mirror when I watch the trees. That's why I call them my teachers or rather my soul.

Might be the opposite actually. He's reminding us of the old ways when people were still connected to nature and to their true selves.
Listening to Alan watts and Ram Dass is ear and soul/spirit candy. Hearing those two in 2020 (and present) really opened my eyes to the here and now.
This video only spells out half of the dynamic. The acknowledgment of the illusion of control. The other half, is the illusion of powerlessness. They appear diametrically opposed, but are actually complimentary. They occupy the same space.
That space is the gap in time between our true self's recognition/acceptance of reality, and our rewriting of it to make sense of the chaos...impose meaning on it.
Meditation sits you in that gap. It places you not in a position of control or power...it MAKES you power and control. You recognize that YOU don't exist, but pure potential does. Pure, powerful, dynamic potential.
You can't change...because you ARE change.
I'm glad such a person has live in earth , and I'm also glad we can see an listen to him even so it was in a time we(I) was not even born. I wish more and more people like Alan Watts are and will come on Earth and share their wisdom and love .

This video was taken about the time that I first heard his lectures broadcast on local radio here in Portland Oregon, [as simulcast from San Francisco,] while I was attending art college.
It wasn't until just about a year ago that I first realized so many of his lectures have now been re-released in TH-cam. It's so great to hear him again. And especially seeing him speaking in this video.

Letting go of the ego is so hard. It amazes me that there are people who've been able to do it.
Letting nature take it's course is about as laid back an attitude a mind can have toward life. There's actually nothing hard about it. The more you try to do something about the situation the further away you get from achieving your goal
@@igo9481 I understand the concept, but when you're in deep, you "try without trying". I try even if I'm not aware that that's what I'm doing. The ego has such a grip on me that I'm set up for much suffering in the future. That's what I mean by hard.

I found his teachings back in 2000 I'm so Glad some of you have found him who are of the 80s, I don't feel to lonely or lost anymore just glad many are waking with his teachings I appreciate this man so much but I did payed some suffering from others not understanding me because people thought I was cookoo! Back in early 2000 this man served as a great missionary who has been given all the way through these times. Greatful!
Isn't it wonderful? I found Alan Watts when I was 21, in 1982.
My marriage is failing and my 4 children loath me, despite my best efforts at being kind and good. I found Alan when it started going wrong a few years ago but now realize it doesn't really matter as it's all a game. We all have opportunity to come back and play another role if we wish. Next time I hope to do better.

We all know it's not really measurable in that everyone has experienced 5 minutes that seemed to last for "days" and equally, "weeks" or "months" that apparently passed in the blink of an eye.
