You guys couldn’t reach out to the ClassicUO client guy? I am sure he would’ve loved to see his client being used in the official UO. I can’t believe that this trailer really starts with the stuttering and 5fps typical of the 1997 client. Can we get official ClassicUO support? Pretty please? The enhanced client changes too much stuff around - ClassicUO is a perfect blend of new and old.
Fully agree. I'd personally love if they made a new Enhanced Client but with the ClassicUO style/resources; I found EC itself too limiting for me, and the art style a bit too inconsistent here and there.
There is so much talent out there keeping classic UO alive on freeshards that they could have tapped into, but it looks like they decided to isolate themselves from everything that has been working well over the last 2-3 decades on freeshards.

yeah honestly I don't see much "new" here... there were shards with these features when I was playing back in the late 90s.... I mean yeah they were third party but they were still around. The old "sphere" server (if I am remembering it right, it's been a long while) had some amazing scripting capability

Once you play with the ClassicUO client in fullscreen, you can never rollback to this window size and framerate. Want people to return to UO, incorporate a client like ClassicUO and a high-risk high-reward gameplay.
Play UOForever. Best server set in the old-school era, pre Trammell, pre T2A with a lot of updates that feel like old OSI made them. It's not like most playermades that revamp every, fucking thing lol.
It's hard to "no life" games when you're between the ages of upper 20s and mid 40s. Younger people can play constantly and will want to keep all the cool stuff they earned and retired people have the time to amass a fortune in MMOs but the rest of us can't play constantly and keep up. So server wipes aren't that upsetting for us. I think that's who are being targeted by seasonal servers.
Not sure what I was expecting from Broadsword.. but I was totally not expecting a theme park daily questing version of the best Sandbox of all time.. What a lost of resources..

This aspect concerns me, too. It's like they're trying to attract more of this new generation of gamers through offering only the same old quests after quests system as the main point. I've always loved Ultima Online exactly because it was independent of all that - I was free to roam and venture the way I wanted without feeling I had to make quests just for progressing the game.
Agreed. This is on-rails UO, not sandbox UO. I can understand doing something new, but they announced a "classic UO experience" like 4 years ago and then gave absolutely no info until this trailer in terms of actual gameplay mechanics and the meat and potatoes of the game that people care about. Unfortunately that would require a full new client.... And people generally didn't like the new client. If you want classic, you get classic ..... On the plus side it'll run in a pentium 2 with 64mb RAM 🤣

I was a hardcore fan of this game as a teenager so I was really excited when this video hit my feed... but it didn't inspire me to jump back in. We didn't have hour counters back in those days but I would be very very comfortable putting it out there I would have had close to 4k hours in UO very very easily, I was obsessed with that game as a teenager.
I'm all for it, but I do agree with some of these comments. The old 12fps, tiny play windows just isn't going to cut it anymore. If that's customizable, as in changing FPS, play windows size, etc, etc, then hell yeah. I'll give it a shot either way
Pretty bummed out that they didn't update the graphics. With modern computers, you could have easily kept the same feel but given things a smoother look.
They probably no longer have their own development capabilities. Currently, most UO players do not use the original client. They play via the unofficial “Orion client”. Many serious players have already left the game. Honest users have voiced this issue many times, but nothing has been done about this unofficial client.
As someone who loved UO and lived in it for years starting in the original alpha (96 or so?).. I absolutely cannot believe that the client hasn't been updated and made modern. Really. How is it not properly 3D at this point but instead still low FPS 2D sprites with terrible forced resolutions? I wish another studio got the IP.
I'm really excited to see what you guys have done with the world itself. Seeing Lord British's throne room in decay was surprising after so many years.

What we want is 2000 ultima online. Bring back the katana of vanquishing, fine. I want to take the loot of an entire house because the guys forgot to lock a table down. I want what ultima online was unique. We dont want this bullshit experience. We want the server to crash on patch day so I can create a guild named, patch day don't play.

i havent played uo for years now... but im guessing this is not what people want... personally i would love to see more frames and possibly more/better texture. I used to be addicted to that client that require you to have the correct materials with you and skill in order to see an option to craft something or type specific words to speak or do something. As soon the menus showed up the game kind of lost 70% of the fun

Maybe one day ea uses the gaming mechanics like the open world taming dragons and nightmares or whatever you felt like train them up, looking for the best stat dragon or nightmares all the loot should be revamped also I was never a PvP kinda person but loved the free roam open world with dragons and other mythical creatures and the skill training was a blast
What happens if a player joins the game 2 or 3 months before a wipe? It's going to feel kind of pointless to play if you're not going to get far before you have to start all over again. Wipes aren't a good mechanic in the mmorpg genre in my opinion, it's a progression killer. Keep in mind as well that old school UO vets who used to have lots of free time back in the game's glory days are likely all working full-time and have families nowadays. They likely won't be able to play as much and then a wipe comes that would just put them back at the start.
Why do we keep mentioning wipes? Do they annually wipe everything now? Been away from official uo forever and I'm really curious what the wipe talk is about
The thing that destroyed UO was tons and tons of needless bloat, ugly new art styles, and overly complicated new mechanics. I would rather play a server that just froze time before AoS dropped. (But still have custom houses, those ruled.)
Ive played UO for over 25 years. They have not touched the game in years claiming to have been working on this?! I hate questing and will never play this new legacy crap as it will just get reset after a year. You all wasted so much time and energy that could have been put into the original game and you chose not to, sad. Letting so many multi client at events and watching them all follow each other and dress alike yet nothing is done. I play 1 client, not 9, so my odds are practically nothing at events and idocs. I foresee this being a huge fail on Mesanna and the entire crew which will inevitability put an end to a game Ive loved.

Such potential... You could have recorded it on the UO Classic client where you would have more than 30 FPS. There would be a chance to attract people who haven't played UO before but like classic MMORPGs. Instead, you did what you did, rejecting potential players. The quality of the trailer is very poor. I love UO and the mechanics are great, but the way you presented it shows a total lack of professionalism.
I still play UO and was excited something new was in the works. I even had old UO friends reach out about this release video... and then I watched it. Oh dear. Where to even start? Railed gameplay is literally the opposite of UO. Those portraits are laughable. Templates builds? Awful. Terrible FPS? Single devs are doing more exciting content than this in substantially less time. Whatever it’s going to take to bring people back to UO - this isn’t it.
This is my favourite game for life, has helped me through a lot. My sincere thanks to everyone who's still involved with keeping it alive. Will there be new maps/facets?

I played UO for many years, left for quite a while, but have recently returned. I love the classic client and the true sandbox feel of the game. The New Legacy Shard doesn't look or sound at all appealing to me, and the required leveling up shown in this video apparently negates the sandbox qualities that made UO great in the first place. I'll stick with my classic UO.
I must add and admit... I played the Ultima online demo (0cclo island) for more hundreds hours you can imagine when my mom refused to pay for my subscription due to my no life status outside Ultima. I was a very bad child, my father took a huge cutter at 2:00am and he chopped all the wires around the pc in the middle of a guild war at 2 am... Good times, I had all the replacement wires ready to rock in my closet, finished the war at 8am. He gave up on me that day. Poor dad. Ps I have now 4 kids, playing Roblox like maniac, I'm sorry baby Jesus, please forgive me.

We thought that was what was going to happen with Shroud of the Avatar, but that completely flopped after people spent thousands upon thousands of dollars to support it. So, what is the deal? Ok, let's get to the point nearly 4 years for this not only was there very little effort in this period to bring fresh content to the game and sort out the thousands of bugs and the pointless peerless events in-game, but this really has to be a joke.Please bring in some fresh people to run the game as this bunch has really lost the plot taking nearly 4 years for this, You are losing so many long-term players now I have reduced down to 2 accounts by the time this comes out(if ever) I am seriously considering losing my last 2 and moving on to something were effort is made and the player base is appreciated(fool me once shame on me fool me so many times it is to many to count shame on you)
Daily quests?! My god, I saw this and got so excited. As I played UO since the time it first came out when I was around 11 years old. I played right until shortly after UO:R and EA killing the game was trammel. But I saw daily quests and checked right out. That's not the UO I've been wanting.. People are SCREAMING for the UO of old. How is it so hard for developers to see this? ALL you need to do is, UO:T2A. Also, make a new map with housing areas. Create the ability for players to buy housing in town so that all the empty buildings in Britian and other towns aren't just empty. Keep it FANTASY first. Make sure any new items added match the old items. Not to where they stick out like a sore thumb. Make crafting important. It makes community. There are plenty of other things but I don't want to right a full on essay. But UO with daily quests isn't what people have been wanting.

We all knew it but private servers really are the new Ultima. This shit doesnt hold a candle.

UX/UI overhaul, like a bigger window view. Not actual graphics. 2D gfx are peak gaming art. All of UO's attempts at 3D were clownshows.

Maybe one day ea uses the gaming mechanics like the open world taming dragons and nightmares or whatever you felt like train them up, looking for the best stat dragon or nightmares all the loot should be revamped also I was never a PvP kinda person but loved the free roam open world with dragons and other mythical creatures and the skill training was a blast

What happens if a player joins the game 2 or 3 months before a wipe? It's going to feel kind of pointless to play if you're not going to get far before you have to start all over again. Wipes aren't a good mechanic in the mmorpg genre in my opinion, it's a progression killer.
Keep in mind as well that old school UO vets who used to have lots of free time back in the game's glory days are likely all working full-time and have families nowadays. They likely won't be able to play as much and then a wipe comes that would just put them back at the start.
Why do we keep mentioning wipes? Do they annually wipe everything now? Been away from official uo forever and I'm really curious what the wipe talk is about

The thing that destroyed UO was tons and tons of needless bloat, ugly new art styles, and overly complicated new mechanics. I would rather play a server that just froze time before AoS dropped. (But still have custom houses, those ruled.)

Ive played UO for over 25 years. They have not touched the game in years claiming to have been working on this?! I hate questing and will never play this new legacy crap as it will just get reset after a year. You all wasted so much time and energy that could have been put into the original game and you chose not to, sad. Letting so many multi client at events and watching them all follow each other and dress alike yet nothing is done. I play 1 client, not 9, so my odds are practically nothing at events and idocs. I foresee this being a huge fail on Mesanna and the entire crew which will inevitability put an end to a game Ive loved.

Such potential... You could have recorded it on the UO Classic client where you would have more than 30 FPS. There would be a chance to attract people who haven't played UO before but like classic MMORPGs. Instead, you did what you did, rejecting potential players. The quality of the trailer is very poor. I love UO and the mechanics are great, but the way you presented it shows a total lack of professionalism.
So, the big question: is it going to be trammel or not?
I still play UO and was excited something new was in the works. I even had old UO friends reach out about this release video... and then I watched it. Oh dear.
Where to even start? Railed gameplay is literally the opposite of UO. Those portraits are laughable. Templates builds? Awful. Terrible FPS?
Single devs are doing more exciting content than this in substantially less time. Whatever it’s going to take to bring people back to UO - this isn’t it.
This is my favourite game for life, has helped me through a lot. My sincere thanks to everyone who's still involved with keeping it alive.

there is a shard; Oceania.. but yeah.. all the shards are pretty much dead except the japanese and ATL (atlantic)

This feels like a great homage to the single player games. I’m REALLY looking forward to playing this. Can’t wait!
I played UO for many years, left for quite a while, but have recently returned. I love the classic client and the true sandbox feel of the game. The New Legacy Shard doesn't look or sound at all appealing to me, and the required leveling up shown in this video apparently negates the sandbox qualities that made UO great in the first place. I'll stick with my classic UO.
I must add and admit... I played the Ultima online demo (0cclo island) for more hundreds hours you can imagine when my mom refused to pay for my subscription due to my no life status outside Ultima. I was a very bad child, my father took a huge cutter at 2:00am and he chopped all the wires around the pc in the middle of a guild war at 2 am... Good times, I had all the replacement wires ready to rock in my closet, finished the war at 8am. He gave up on me that day. Poor dad. Ps I have now 4 kids, playing Roblox like maniac, I'm sorry baby Jesus, please forgive me.
I'm guessing there is no money to actually bring UO into 2024? We thought that was what was going to happen with Shroud of the Avatar, but that completely flopped after people spent thousands upon thousands of dollars to support it. So, what is the deal? Are you ever planning on updating this beloved game?

Ok, let's get to the point nearly 4 years for this not only was there very little effort in this period to bring fresh content to the game and sort out the thousands of bugs and the pointless peerless events in-game, but this really has to be a joke.Please bring in some fresh people to run the game as this bunch has really lost the plot taking nearly 4 years for this, You are losing so many long-term players now I have reduced down to 2 accounts by the time this comes out(if ever) I am seriously considering losing my last 2 and moving on to something were effort is made and the player base is appreciated(fool me once shame on me fool me so many times it is to many to count shame on you)

Daily quests?! My god, I saw this and got so excited. As I played UO since the time it first came out when I was around 11 years old. I played right until shortly after UO:R and EA killing the game was trammel. But I saw daily quests and checked right out. That's not the UO I've been wanting.. People are SCREAMING for the UO of old. How is it so hard for developers to see this?
ALL you need to do is, UO:T2A. Also, make a new map with housing areas. Create the ability for players to buy housing in town so that all the empty buildings in Britian and other towns aren't just empty. Keep it FANTASY first. Make sure any new items added match the old items. Not to where they stick out like a sore thumb. Make crafting important. It makes community.
There are plenty of other things but I don't want to right a full on essay. But UO with daily quests isn't what people have been wanting.
