I have to say that I am almost 70 & been scuba diving 🤿 my whole life. I have never seen or been close to a great white shark 🦈 like this before. I'm extremely proud of how you both acted under the water in the presence of a great white. You did everything the 🦈Experts tell you to do. Bravo 👏 I do not think I would have been as calm as you. You definitely saved yourself from being dinner or even a snack. 👍👏🙏
@CC-cm3jl I dove the great Cayman wall in the very early 80s at 140 ft. This is when Coral 🪸 were still alive & the coral reef was thriving 🐠 & the reef life was insane! I saw something in the distance that was bigger than a school bus 🚌 but unfortunately at that depth I ran out of Air very easily and had to make my assent safely at different levels. But it definitely made me pee my pants. That's just one of many ✌️
You guys are so lucky to see Mrs Bruce in person … I been diving Five fathom bank for 20 years now, never had the pleasure to meet her. Seen plenty of bronzies and tigers though…. Happy diving guys

Seemed more curious than interested. The mouth wasn't wide open like they do when they are preparing to bite. The divers did a good job with communication and it's always a plus when the diver doesn't start freaking out and splashing around.
I think that 'how to behave with sharks' is like a taboo in diving. No one wants to speak about it in clubs here in Adelaide. But it is one of the possible danger occurring while diving, so we should speak about it. I think that you guys did great. Stayed low, near a hole/crack in the rocks, until being out of air or close. I'w like to believe I would have done the same. well done.
It's good strategy. It minimizes the chance of sharks coming in from below or behind, and gives you a bit more of a window to tackle it head on - no matter how futile. I get the impression that sharks tend to like encircling because it gives them a sneaky bite in from behind or below unawares. A head on challenge against prey could end up with the sharks eyes gouged out or a jab to the gills. It's better than nothing.

You’ve surprised Jessica, that was pretty amplified by the microphone in the camera. It’s not really that loud in the water. That being said, you have to do your best to lower your breathing rate and your heart rate will follow. It wasn’t too bad given that it’s the start of the season. My breathing rate will be a lot lower in a couple of months after my next dives
Oh man when one of the divers headed to the surface and the others were looking around and there was nothing, the Jaws theme was playing on loop in my head. That was amazing and scary. Brilliant video.
I was actually gripping my phone tighter, ducking while sitting in my lazyboy and asking myself, "Where did it go?" 😂 I would have stroked out and been her snack!! Awesome video. Hopefully, there is no more of that for a while! 🤙

Remaining calm, breathing slowly and carefully, trying to maintain a chill heartbeat are maybe the 3 only parameters that you can control as a human being to go out alive of this interaction. Thrill of a lifetime, and exceptional experience!

I live down the road from one of these blokes and apparently they dove again one hour after this encounter after moving away from this area. I didn’t go waste deep at our local beach 12 hours after seeing it on the news 😂.

your instict is probably to flee and try to run for the surface.......dont do that. Staying very very very focused on the shark and as low to the ground as possible is probably the right thing to do.

Stand your ground and face the 🦈 head on is the best bet (on the ocean floor as you mentioned); I’m just saying that fight or flight drive would be really hard to ignore in that situation. Awesome footage of a super sketchy situation. The return to the boat was the most dangerous part so I wish you had filmed that as well. If you had been in Florida, I would not have been too concerned, but in Western Australia, yikes! Your GW sharks are a different temperament than the ones in the USA! Your reaction to the arrival of the shark and your behavior when it was checking you out was perfect. You were calm and not retreating in fear. You let that animal know you were possibly dangerous and thus, it kept its distance.
I was for real holding my breath watching that! I had to turn the sound down because the sounds the respirator & bubbles made were making me nervous as I was watching that very large Great White stalk you! Damn that was nerve wracking to watch. I can’t even imagine being there in that situation. I think that would have been the last time I went diving. If you had plenty of air you could have waited it out in that reef as it looked like you had a pretty good defensive position. Unfortunately you also have to get back up to the boat eventually. That would have been my worst nightmare.

Sharks don't have ears...
Sharks can only hear in the 10-800 hz range so they don’t hear much outside of super low frequencies.

Tigers and bulls are probably more dangerous to divers really. If you’re on the surface in murky water then a Great White is more dangerous.

Looked mostly inquisitive but I’m sure I seen posturing a couple times. Guys stayed calm, controlled their breathing, and kept eyes on. Not sure I would be like that in that situation. Reckon there would be brown bubbles from me. 🤣🤣

GW shark are the most scariest and creepiest looking animal imo. When they open their mouth and show their gum, truly terrifying. Tiger and GW can easily cut human torso in half with a single bite
